LINK CREW
Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes grade nine students and makes them feel
comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience. Built on the belief that students
can help students succeed, this transition program trains mentors from junior and senior classes to be
Link Crew Leaders. As positive role models, Link Crew Leaders are mentors and student leaders who
guide new students to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to high school and
help facilitate success.
SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM): CONSTRUCTION, HOSPITALITY, THE ARTS
The SHSM is an innovative program that enables students to customize their high school experience.
LCVI students will have the opportunity to qualify for an SHSM in Construction, Arts and Culture,
Hospitality, or Health and Wellness. An important component of an SHSM diploma is the earning of
sector-specific certifications associated with different industries (for example, Fall Arrest, Smart Serve,
WHMIS). Students who earn an SHSM diploma are better able to make informed career decisions and
ultimately be better prepared for their post-secondary destination of choice (apprenticeship training,
college, university, or direct entry into employment). More information on the SHSM diploma can be
found by visiting our Student Services department.
THE ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL LITERACY TEST (OSSLT) – MARCH 26, 2015
The OSSLT is to be written by all students working towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. This
test is normally written in grade 10 or at a later time when a student is ready to do so. It is a graduation
requirement and is written in the spring. Complete/incomplete results are reported later the same
school year. Students who are unsuccessful will receive detailed feedback. In the event that a student is
unsuccessful, he/she may attempt the test again the following year or register in the Ontario Literacy
Course which, successfully completed, is the equivalent of passing the OSSLT.
OSSLT (ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL LITERACY TEST) CAROUSEL
The OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test) Carousel at LCVI offers students writing the test to
get additional information on test format, structure and requirements. This is offered in addition to
regular and ongoing literacy support for students leading up to the OSSLT on March 26th.
GRADE 9 EQAO MATH TEST
All students working toward a credit in Grade 9 Academic or Applied Mathematics are required to
participate. These tests evaluate how well students are meeting the curriculum expectations of the
Grade 9 Academic or Applied Mathematics courses from The Ontario Curriculum

LOYALIST COLLEGIATE & VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE
Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation presents the Inside Ride, Canada’s first indoor cycling
challenge and fundraising event dedicated to raising monies in support of families and children with
cancer. Support will be provided where the needs are greatest, including funding of oncology camps,
community support programmes, research scholarships and other areas which contribute to inspiring
hope and improving prognoses for children and their families impacted by cancer.
ACTIVITY CAROUSEL
An Activity Carousel is held the first week of school to assist students in knowing what co-curricular and
extra-curricular activities occur outside of the regular classroom experience. These activities are
facilitated by staff advisors and community volunteers. Students will have a chance to see what
opportunities are available for the school year (athletics, arts events, clubs, etc). There are fees
associated with some activities and financial assistance is available upon request. Try outs may also
occur for some and travel may be required.
GRADE FORUMS
Grade Forums occur at the beginning of each semester. Junior and senior assemblies are held by the
Administrative team, Student Services and Ecclesia (Student Council). General school information and
school code of conduct is reviewed. Students receive a package of information (school rules, resources,
code of conduct, lockers, etc.) following the assembly in that class. A copy of this package is posted on
our school website under For Students.
CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION
Co-operative Education is a high school credit program offered to students who are sixteen years of age
and older. Students work for credits in community placements. This program is highly successful and
gives students an opportunity to explore career interests. More information is available in the Course
Handbook available on the website lcvi.limestone.on.ca
