Summary: Childbirth is an extraordinary and challenging life event which profoundly influences a woman’s physical, social and emotional well-being. The care, information and emotional support that the midwife offers the labouring woman and her chosen companions can set the scene to protect the woman’s physical wellbeing and nurture her emotional strengths. In this course we describe the goals, assessment and procedures involved in basic neonatal resuscitation. Completing this course will re-enforce your knowledge in neonatal resuscitation. Module 3: Commencement of resuscitation • This section focuses on the decision making around the commencement of infant resuscitation. Module 4: Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation • This section contains key learning points and guidance with effective intermittent positive pressure ventilation or IPPV. Module 5: External Chest Compressions • This section contains the most current guidelines for external chest compressions or ECC. Module 6: Meconium-Stained Liquor • This section covers guidelines on managing babies born in meconium-stained liquor. Module 7: Documenting Resuscitation and Communication • This section discusses appropriate procedures for documenting resuscitation and for communicating with parents and families.
