Immediately following breakfast, attendees will enjoy a morning presentation by Dr. Carson focused on
reducing cortisol levels in eating disorder patients by exploring the science of a simple hug. Binge eating
embraces stress as a predisposing, precipitating and perpetuating factor. When stress (worry) becomes
chronic, ruminating and unresolved, the consequences present as a series of harmful neurological
changes and hormonal dysfunctions. At the center of these pathological changes is cortisol. this
chemical that wreaks havoc on appetite, insulin resistance, abdominal fat accumulation, impulse control,
inappropriate behaviors and health. Investigating the scientific literature attendees will gain an incredible
revelation that explains the usefulness of hug therapy.
There is a chemical (phenylethylamine) that is released by the body when one practices self-compassion,
joyful movement or mindfulness. Research has proven that not only does Phenylethylamine (PEA) lift
one out of their depressive moods, but it also serves to break down stubborn fat stores and reduce
appetite. he technique of Compassion Focused Mindfulness will be introduced as a therapeutic tool and
the scientific mechanism that underlie its success will also be discussed.

variety of professionals including appeal for dietitians, nutritionists, eating disorder specialists,
