SCHOOL COUNCIL
Congratulations to Alistair Calder, Jarrod Collins, Mireille Bolay, Russel Cowan and Prue Webb
who nominated for School Council. We were lucky to have just the right number of
nominations so everyone has a place on School Council and a ballot is not required.
Our ongoing members of School Council include Jamie Tobin, Heather Robinson, Matt Smith
and Ellie Bryce-Stenzel.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
February to Monday 2nd March. Interview time slips have been sent home today.
SENIOR STUDIO
Homework
Homework in the Senior Studio has commenced. Students receive spelling and timetables to
work on, which will be due every Monday, to be marked on Tuesday and reissued
Wednesdays. All students are expected to read a minimum of three nights for the week. This is
not a lot of reading and we certainly encourage a great deal more.
As part of our school homework policy all students will be required to complete homework. If
homework cannot be completed at home your child will be required to complete it in their
own time at school ie recess, lunch or instead of any free time. If your child has a busy week
due to other commitments and is unable to complete homework, please send a note. We
understand some weeks can be very busy.
Classroom Reading
Students have begun reading groups on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays. If you are available
to help with readers on these mornings it would be greatly appreciated.
Well done to this week’s academic excellence certificate winners! The
students are continuing to work tough and develop their engagement levels
in class through numerous tasks.
Homework
The students have been given their maths sheets to practice for homework. Could you please
ensure your child is completing their reading, spelling and math’s homework each week? A
reminder that homework is due each Monday.
Wow! What another fantastic week that was full of lots of learning and
buzzes! It is great to see the children taking pride in their work and
accepting challenges.
In literacy we are continuing to focus on reading strategies,
comprehension, predicting, achieving set goals, correct letter formation, letter names and
sounds.
In math students are continuing to focus on reading and writing numbers and place value. This
week the children started using Mathletics (Math computer program). Next week I will send
home their Mathletics codes for those children wishing to do extra math at home. If there are
any queries about Mathletics please see Tammy.
During science the Prep/1/2’s have been busily building a variety of different rafts/boats. Next
week the children will be testing their rafts/boats.
Well done to all of the children who read at least 4 nights and handed in their completed
homework. Just a reminder, homework is due on Monday morning.
Congratulations to Lily, Amelia, Farris and Skyla for receiving academic excellence awards.

art and science.
Book club is being issued today. All orders are due by Monday 16th March in a
named envelop. No late orders can be accepted. Payments for book club can
be made via Bpay, cash or cheque. Credit card is not a preferred method of
payment as it does affect the way the school is invoiced and holds up orders.
Any queries or questions please see Mrs Tuaine in the Senior Studio.
Thank you

Tennis Lessons
It has been great to see so many smiling faces on the tennis court after and during each lesson.
Keep up the great work boys and girls!
World Cup cricket
Currently there are 10 LBPS students at a World Cup cricket match enjoying the action
between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. What an amazing experience for them all. Thank you Mr
Smith for organising so many great sporting events for our students!!!!
AFL Players visiting
Next Wednesday 4th March there will be a group of Western Bulldogs players visiting the
school from 2pm-3pm. This is part of their promotional tour around Ballarat. This is a fantastic
opportunity for students to display their skills in front of elite sportsman and ask them some
hard hitting questions.
Parents are welcome to come. We will be splitting the children into two groups - foundation
(prep) to year 2 and year three to year six. The f/2 children will be participating in a clinic from
2:00 – 2:30pm and the 3/6 children will be participating from 2:30-3:00pm.
REMINDERS
CURRICULUM DAY
On Tuesday 10th March we will be participating in a variety of professional development
activities with twelve other schools from the Moorabool Cluster. There will be no school for
children on this day.
Playgroup
We’re hoping to get Little Bendigo Playgroup up and running once again. At this stage we are
looking at Monday or Thursday mornings from 9-11am in the Shedatorium. If you have a child
under school age and would like to be a part of Little Bendigo Playgroup (which includes
Playgroup Victoria membership) please contact the school on 5332 6317 or see Janet Tuaine in
the Blue Gums Studio.
At this stage we are looking for expressions of interest and preferred day. We would like to
have at least three families to run playgroup as there is nothing worse than turning up with you
child/ren and no one else there.
Playgroup is open to ALL families in and out of the school, so friends and family are most
definitely welcome.
Regards Janet Tuaine
Consent Books
Thank you to those families who have already returned their students consent books. These
books, once signed and returned allow students to use the internet, to participate in activities
outside the classroom (eg walk to bridge to count the traffic- maths) and it helps us to keep
your child’s emergency contact details up to date and their medical conditions.
ASTHMA / ALLERGIES
If your child is an asthmatic can you please call into the office to check the date of their
medication. We have been through them and most are out of date.
It is also important to make sure your child’s asthma plan is up to date, these need to
be done every twelve months. There are a few of these out of date.
Also several students have asthma or allergies marked in their consent books but we
have not been provided with their medication.
Please send the appropriate medication to school as soon as possible.

Hello!
I'm Hélène Huvaere and I'm from Brussels, Belgium and I'm 26 years old. I arrived in Australia on the 12th of
January and am very excited to kick-off my full Aussie experience! For the moment I'm staying in Ballarat and
I'm planning to climb my way up to Darwin in the next couple of months. Before I start my touristic journey, I
need to save up my travel funds. I'm available for working in Ballarat until the end of the year. I studied special
education at the University of Leuven in Belgium. I've worked the last 2 years with children and adolescents in
a childcare protection service back in Belgium. I would love to be a nanny/Au Pair here in Ballarat! I'm very
flexible in hours (before/after school, weekends, holidays, etc.) and also in doing multiple tasks (I can do
household tasks such as ironing, cleaning, cooking, etc. while I’m looking after your children). I have my
Working with Children Check from Belgium. My English is fairly good. I have a car so the job doesn't have to be
in Ballarat CBD or even in Ballarat itself. If you are interested in hiring me or you know somebody who needs a
hand while they’re at work please email me at [email protected] or call 0449 633 479. Also feel
free to contact me if you require any additional information, looking forward! Kindly regards, Hélène.
