The health visiting service has continued to deliver in what has been very
difficult and challenging time. The service is now emerging stronger and
better resourced and we are welcoming over 48 new health visitors to our
service since our major recruitment drive in November.
Monica Sherry, Assistant Director of Professional Standards for Children’s
Community Nursing Services said: “It is fantastic that the health visiting
service was recognised for their substantial contribution to children and
families at the Trust Award ceremony. Your dedication and hard work is
appreciated and now publicly acknowledged. Well done and you all should
be very proud.”
Viv Bennett Health Visitors….
In an open letter Viv Bennett has thanked the health visiting profession,
partners and parents. She states: “I am writing to thank you for really
incredible contributions that you have made to the national health visiting
programme during the last four years.”
“And so to the future. We have more health visitors than at any time since
community nursing statistics were first recorded in 1971. ‘HV 456′ has
been developed to show what can be achieved through the additional
capacity and frontline leadership – vital services for supporting families
for children’s health, development and resilience” Read more about it:

LOCAL NEWS


After a three month break, the HCP Working Groups have now resumed. It was good to see so
many of you attend the 3 sessions held this month. A number of new guidelines/ policies developed
by the working groups have now been ratified, including:






Standards for Antenatal Contacts
New Birth Policy
Infant Feeding Policy
Growth Monitoring Guidelines
Transition Pathways for Health Visiting & School Nursing Services
HV & GP Communication Guidance
A new ‘Health Visiting’ section is being created on our intranet, where all these ratified documents
will be available from May 2015. You will be informed of the details through the hub.

You may remember that in a staff survey conducted as part of the Health Visitor Retention Project
by NHS employers in 2013, 75% of health visitors expressed that there was no clear health visiting
career pathway within our organisation. This, alongside the absence of professional educational
programmes for health visiting was reported to be key factors in staff considering their future in our
Trust. Since the creation of the hub, considerable work has been undertaken to roll out
standardised professional development programmes. We have now developed a clear career
pathway for health visitors along with support packages, to help every health visitor plan their
future career. These are intended to be used by all health visitors and discussed during regular
managerial supervision, annual appraisals and personal development reviews. Click here to see a

Our Postnatal Depression (PND) wheel for mothers and fathers launched in January 2015 has
generated a lot interest nationally. Sharin Baldwin & Trish Kelly presented the wheel at the annual
Queen’s Nurse meeting in Birmingham in March. They also presented a professional poster on the
wheel at the IHV Regional conference in London, which won the ‘Best Poster’ competition.
The PND wheel is now available for purchase nationally.
All our staff undertaking the Trust/ Hub Perinatal Mental training will be given a wheel.
