Bike Club Scotland Bike Club Scotland is a partnership project run by Youth Scotland, the national network of youth clubs and groups, and the CTC, the national cycling charity. Bike Club Scotland supports young people to become more active, develop leadership skills and enable the creation of sustainable cycling projects. The project works with young people that aren’t traditionally engaged in cycling and physical activity – minority ethnic communities, disabled young people, girls and young women and those from disadvantaged areas. It isn’t about the bike. Young people have achieved a range of outcomes from Bike Club, including: improved health and wellbeing • learning opportunities • leadership skills • confidence • self-esteem • a sense of independence • the opportunity to participate in a safe, fun, team activity We use a youth work approach, supporting young people to develop through learning and achievement. We support young people to become leaders, enabling them to develop the skills to teach their peers. Get involved! Get involved with Bike Club and you can access: • Training and development pathways for young people (e.g. bike mechanics qualification, cycle ride leader, cycle trainer, child protection awareness course, social media training, outdoor learning, first aid, risk assessment workshops). • Accreditation and recognition of achievement through Youth Scotland’s Youth Achievement Awards. • Insurance and CTC group membership. • Support to develop sustainable Bike Clubs in communities across Glasgow, Falkirk, Fife, Stirling and Clackmannanshire. Creating Opportunities for Young People Young people have positive outcomes with Bike Club: • Employability – by providing qualifications, accreditation, career skills and boosting confidence through experiencing responsibility. • Participation in physical activity – by providing opportunities for physical activity and addressing barriers to participation. • Experience of the outdoors – by providing opportunities for young people to use the green spaces on their doorstep and creating cycling facilities where appropriate. • Volunteering – by giving young people the skills to set up or develop their own Bike Club, which will then attract other volunteers.
