Today’s machinery plants and automation systems are becoming increasingly more sophisticated with complex
assemblies, tighter tolerances, and
increased performance expectations in
critical applications.
Industry demands high
reliability, high operational availability (Ao),
and short repair times
to maximize the time
that these systems are
in service. Unexpected
failures frequently
result in extended system downtime due to
maintenance delays and
unavailability of parts.
To maximize system
availability, maintenance procedures must
be performed on a preventative or
condition related basis rather than on a
reactive or schedule related basis and
data must be made available remotely
to maintenance support activities so
that replacement parts may be procured
in a timely manner.
Historically it has been very difficult to

for system maintenance

activity or more importantly, before a system

maintenance algorithms

systems do not collect sufficient data at
high enough data rates to be useful in predictive algorithm implementation.
