I was at the Lodge the other day and took notice
of some members who were working here. I
stopped dead in my tracks and realized the most
important lesson they taught me is something
none of them set out to teach me. GRATEFULNESS.
Suddenly, I found myself excitingly filled with
THANKFULNESS. At this time, I would like to
recognize
Kurt Staszak and Rick Sitar
for building and designing wood plaques to display
photographs of the current Board Members. These
are now on display in the foyer area of the Lodge.

There is no way to fully express my appreciation

As I went on my way, I realized how BLESSED we
truly are with the caliber and quality of members

March winds and April showers; tiny buds on tree branches,
yet another winter storm. Warmth is in the air and tender
blossoms peek out from the earth. Then, we see our first robin Keith Balash
Governor
and witness life itself coming back into the world, as Spring
Has Sprung!
With all that said, a reminder that the Spring season brings the period of
time where the annual elections for your Board of Officers here at the
Milwaukee Lodge #49 Loyal Order of Moose Fraternity. The Nominating
Committee has scheduled dates (see page 6) for interested candidates to
submit their names, should they desire to run for a new and challenging Board
position. The success of this Lodge and the functions organized by the Board
for our members is a vitally important role and mission that helps grow our
Fraternity in this community.
Please remember this Lodge is better served by individuals who have new
and unique ideas and believe in the concept of teamwork as a way to
accomplish tasks. The men and women of the Lodge should not consider
membership as being a spectator sport, sitting and watching from the
sidelines, but rather the unique opportunity to get more involved in the
Fraternity and truly make a difference in the lives of our members,
community, and the Moose International Fraternity as a whole.
Over the past two months, the Lodge has seen some very successful events
thanks to the participation from all our valuable members, each and every one
of YOU! These special occasions included the New Year’s Eve Celebration, our
101st Anniversary Party, and Valentine’s Day. Congratulations to all the
winners of the Anniversary Raffle. Your continued support with these
fundraisers helps continue to fund our operation here at the Lodge. Welcome
to the two new bands, “Ron & The Good Times Dixieland Band ” and
“The MIXXX Vocal Band,” who recently performed here at Lodge 49.
The upcoming months will be highlighted by the St. Patrick’s Day
Celebration in March and the Holy Week with our Easter Brunch Celebration
in April. The Spring season is just around the corner and there have been
preliminary discussions on forming a Golf League and a Moose Riders Activity
Group. These types of events require Lodge-Wide commitment from our
members, both in planning stages of the events, and also, in the participation
level from our members. Stay tuned and listen for additional announcements
in the near future.
In closing, I hope to see each and every one of you at a Milwaukee Lodge
#49 dinner event in the near future. Stay healthy and safe as we anxiously
await the sunshine and warmth of the Spring season.
Fraternally,
Keith Balash, Governor

Moose Legion Eligibility
3rd District Meeting
Eligibility for Moose Legion Membership is
changing! It will be simpler and more straight
forward, while it will remain an “earned degree”
with requirement to be eligible. Members asked,
and we listened. Proposals were made to the
Supreme Council and they approved the
recommendations of the Moose Legion Council.
Beginning August 1, 2012 — To be eligible for
advancement to membership in the Moose
Legion, a Lodge member must have EITHER:
 Held active Lodge membership for a
minimum period of six (6) months, or
 Sponsored his first (accepted) member into
the Order.
You have repeatedly asked and we have
listened. You said the requirements were
roadblocks to bringing in new members. If that
were the case, then the roadblocks are now
removed and the highway is open. Let’s drive
those applications to our Moose Legion
Secretaries and keep them busy entering them!
For more information or questions, see Past
Moose Legion President, Whitey, for special
promotions.

The “Second Degree”
W h at i s t h e M o o s e L e g i o n ?
One way to get friends interested in the Moose is
to invite them into the Lodge for a visit. It doesn’t
matter if it’s a Friday Night Fish Fry, a Sunday
Morning Breakfast Buffet, or just a Packer Game.
If you show them a good time, the Lodge will sell
itself.
Following the founding of the Loyal Order of
Moose in 1888, dedicated Moose members
searched for new ways to be of greater service to
the Order. Therefore, the “Second Degree” or
Moose Legion, was established to provide greater
opportunities for Lodge members to serve the Lodge
and Fraternity. More than a century later, the
Moose Legion remains a strong and growing arm of
the Loyal Order of Moose. Is is comprised of
thousands of Moose members in every state and
province who desire to elevate their service and
leadership skills in their Lodge and Moose Legion
jurisdiction. Is is also a forum for members to direct
and lead special programs that support the
fraternity’s three basic missions: Community Service
Programs, Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
For more information or questions, see Past
Moose Legion President, Whitey, for details and
applications.
As individual members of our Fraternal Order,
each of us must have the proper motivation and
enthusiasm needed to be an example to our new
members and our Lodge Brothers. If we are to
promote self-esteem, we are to practice it.
Giving your friends and relatives an
opportunity to join our Lodge, gives them the
opportunity to make new friends. It gives our
Lodge the advantage of active members, the
support needed for its activities, and a new
avenue of membership. And who reaps the profit
of all this? Why, our children at Mooseheart and
our senior citizens at Moosehaven, of course!

Be Prepared
Birthday Dinners
Please, be prepared to show your Moose I.D. to the
Doorman, Bartender, and Food Service Workers. Men
and women should have their card ready when entering
the building.
Be proud to belong to this great, private
organization and show your card. We appreciate your
cooperation!
Question: Who may come to a birthday dinner at the
Moose Lodge and do you need an invitation letter to
attend?
Answer: It is true that for the month of your birthday,
you will receive a letter inviting you to a “FREE” birthday
dinner. You may also bring your guests at the normal
price of the dinner. However, if the member’s birthday is
not in that month, you may still come but all meals will
be paid for and you must make a reservation in advance.
Planning A Party
And Don’t Know Where To Have It?
H ow A r e Yo u D oi n g?
If you or someone in your family or circle of friends is
about to have a party soon, you will be in need of a nice
affordable hall.
Consider having your celebration in the Milwaukee
Moose Lodge 49 hall.
The hall is very attractive and can hold 150-200
guests easily. There is no rental charge, but there is a
modest set-up/clean-up charge.
We also offer in-house catering service with
attractive menus and prices.
For more details, please call the Lodge Office
between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm at 414-281-4444.
If you or a Brother Moose Member is sick,
hospitalized or distressed, please notify the Lodge.
A “Get Well” card will be sent to the sick or bedridden members. Also, with the approval of the patient,
family and hospital staff, personal visits may be
arranged. With the permission of the patient or sick
person, the progress of their condition will be
announced at the general membership meetings.
Getting sick is no fun, so let us know when it happens
so that we may send a little ray of sunshine on an
otherwise grim situation.
