IMPROVEMENTS TO THE NAVETTE OR BY TAXI SERVICE IN DORVAL
Navette Or by taxi is offered to residents, ages 65 and over, by the Société de
transport de Montréal (STM), in cooperation with the City of Dorval.
The Navette Or by taxi transportation service features a 38-stop route within
the municipality, including four new spots:

Les Jardins Dorval shopping centre near the SAQ on Carson Avenue
Corner of Sims Place and Brunet Avenue
Corner of Dumont Avenue and Fénelon Boulevard
This service is offered Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Seniors are
free to choose their departure and return times within that timeframe. Rides
are given by taxi; however, only from one designated stop to another.
Methods of payment and costs
There are three ways to pay for your ride when boarding:
1)
By showing your photo ID OPUS card for ages 65 and over that holds a monthly or weekly transit fare
2)
By giving an STM regular-fare or reduced-fare disposable magnetic card*
3)
By paying in cash the new cost of $2.65 for regular fare and $1.60 for
reduced fare*
*In all cases, you must show your photo ID OPUS card for ages 65 and over to
pay the reduced fare.

Living a Healthy Life With Chronic Conditions
My Tool Box is the MUHC’s (McGill University Health Centre) free 6-week
program for individuals living with chronic disease and their loved ones. The
program is designed to teach people the skills they need to live well with
chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, arthritis,
cancer, MS, muscular dystrophy, hypertension, and chronic pain. These fun and
interactive workshops emphasize coping strategies and practical skills.
History of Dorval in Pictures
Join the Dorval Historical Society in a trip down memory lane with pictures of
Dorval throughout the years. See if you can recognize people and places from
your youth, or compare Dorval’s history in pictures to where you grew up. Either
way, it will be a pleasant experience!

the 2015 edition of First Citizens Week.
Sandbag Baseball Tournament
Tuesday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the
Centre d’hébergement de Dorval (Foyer Dorval)
The Club de l'âge d'or de la Présentation invites you to join the fun.
Whether as a participant or a spectator, your enthusiasm will
be welcome. The winning team will receive the
Valérie Plourde Memorial trophy.
Mayor's Cup Carpet Bowling Tournament
Wednesday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the
Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre
The Dorval North 60+ Club is proud to host this annual bowling
tournament where local teams are invited to compete for the
Mayor's Cup and Barbara Law Memorial trophies.
2015 Civic Reception
Sunday, May 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the
Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre
Dorval First Citizens will be honoured at the annual Civic Reception
by Mayor Rouleau and members of your City Council who
will be on hand to serve a light lunch.
Tickets are available to Dorval First Citizens only, free of charge, at the
SDCC or the Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre. Proof of age and
residency is required to obtain your ticket. Space is limited.

Stand Up Program
March 31 to June 4
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
At the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre
The cost is $10.
Stand Up is a 10-week program designed to help autonomous seniors improve
balance and core strength with low-impact exercise. You will gain confidence
in your daily activities by learning to avoid falls. If you are interested, call the
Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre, leave your name and phone number, and
we will contact you. Space is limited to 15 people.
**This course is offered to participants on a one-time basis only. If you have
taken the course and would like to continue to improve your balance and
strength, you should register for Better Balance. **
Better Balance Program (SO1001-01)
April 14 to May 21 (6 weeks)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.
At the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre
The cost is $25 if you register by April 8 and
$28.75 if you register after this date.
Better Balance is ideal for those who have taken a session of Stand Up and
would like to maintain and improve their balance with low-impact exercise,
using techniques that will help maintain independence and ease of movement.
Transportation for courses at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre
If you need transportation to the SDCC for these and other courses and
programs, use the Navette Or by taxi transportation service.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES FOR FIRST CITIZENS
Join us for this summer’s super First Citizen activities! Each of the two
special events will include food and entertainment, all in the
air-conditioned comfort of your community centres. Tickets are $8 for
each activity and will be on sale as of Monday, May 4, at the
Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre and the Surrey Aquatic and
Community Centre.
Casino Royale
Friday, July 10, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre
Try your luck at Blackjack, Roulette, Poker, and
more at our annual Casino Royale afternoon.
The games will start after lunch, so bring your
appetite and lucky rabbit’s foot.
Pub Night
Friday August 7, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Join the fun at our second annual
Pub Night where you can play cards or
board games with friends, watch sports
on the big screen, try your hand at Beer-pong,

JIREH Gospel Choir – Ov@tion Series

Tickets for this event are $25 and are on sale at the Dorval Library, the
Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre, the Surrey Aquatic and Community Centre,
and at the door, if seats are still available.
Composed of about a dozen singers and musicians, JIREH has
travelled throughout Quebec, Ontario, and all the way to France
and Italy to share its love for gospel music and spread its contagious
energy. From timeless classics to original songs, the choir perfectly
combines traditional and contemporary gospel sounds. JIREH Gospel
Choir’s foot-stomping beats will transform even bystanders into active
participants, while the music’s uplifting message will raise your spirit
for days to come!
A Tribute to Fritz Kreisler
Divertissimo Concert Series
Sunday, March 15, at 11 a.m.
At the Peter B. Yeomans Cultural Centre (1401 Lakeshore Drive)
Tickets are $10.
One of the greatest violinists of the twentieth century, Fritz Kreisler,
has won the heart of many audiences with his numerous talents. Both
performer and composer, this infamous violin master could not be
better honoured than by these great young ambassadors and artists
who cleverly defend his musical artistry.

Novartis Summer Concert Series
Don’t miss the free Novartis concerts, presented by the City of Dorval
every Monday at 7:30 p.m., from June 15 to August 10, at Pine Beach
Park.
The Concert Under the Stars will be held on Thursday, July 16,
at 7:30 p.m., at Pine Beach Park. Don’t miss this free classical concert
presented by the City of Dorval.

DORVAL MUSEUM OF LOCAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE
Across the Lake:
The Shared History of Dorval and Kahnawake
Since the founding of Dorval, historically significant events have
shaped our relationship with this resilient, proud, and respectful
Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke across the lake. This exhibition
aims to better understand our Mohawk neighbours,
one of the Native populations of Canada.
The exhibition continues until August 2, 2015.
Museum Hours
The Museum is open Thursday to Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Admission is free.

Dorval is home to seven local clubs with a total membership of over
900 residents and which are all administered by volunteer First
Citizens. Each club offers something different. New members and new
ideas are always welcome. Consult the following pages for more

the club of your choice.

CLUB DORVAL 55+ VOYAGEURS
Organized by a volunteer committee, this club offers
day trips as well as overnight and overseas trips, and
special luncheons. Membership for 2015 for Dorval
residents is $10 for individuals or two people, ages
55 and over, and who permanently live at the same
address. Spouses who are younger than 55 may join as
associate members. For information concerning the club, please drop
by the 55+ Voyageurs kiosk, Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.,

BRICOLEURS DORVAL (WOODWORKERS ASSOCIATION)
The "Association des bricoleurs de Dorval" is a group
of people ages 55 and over, wishing to share their
passion for woodworking. The carpentry workshop,
located at the Westwood Sports Centre, is
equipped with all the necessary machinery and tools.
The workshop is open year-round, Monday to Friday,
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To join the group, there is an initial fee of $25 and an annual fee of $10

SURREY KNITTERS
Are you over 55?
Do you like to knit, crochet, and help others?
Do you live in Dorval?
Then come and join the Surrey Knitters every
Monday afternoon, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Surrey Aquatic and
Community Centre (1945 Parkfield Avenue).
Annual fee is $5 for Dorval residents.

ST. VERONICA'S SENIOR CITIZEN CLUB
This English group, which caters to
St. Veronica parishioners ages 55 years
and over, meets casually the second
Friday of each month, from September
through June, at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre. The club hosts
interesting guest speakers and members share a light lunch.
Membership is $8.
The club also celebrates special occasions such as Christmas and
St. Patrick’s Day, and organizes a year-end get-together with a catered
meal. Their guest speakers cover a myriad of subjects and past guests
include Aislin, Dr. Schwarcz, notaries, ophthalmologists, audiologists, as
well as a variety of subjects that are of interest to the 55 and over.

DORVAL SENIOR MEN’S CRIBBAGE CLUB
Here is a club for local senior men to enjoy the game of
Cribbage, each Monday afternoon at the Sarto-Desnoyers
Community Centre, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., from October

LAKESHORE SENIOR CITIZEN CLUB
Lakeshore Seniors, a bilingual club, meet every Thursday,
September through June, at the Sarto-Desnoyers
Community Centre, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., for cards,
bingo, and special events.

DORVAL NORTH 60+ CLUB
Would you like to try carpet bowling, a fun game
everyone can learn that keeps you active?
New players are welcome! There are also a few
spots available for “spare” bridge players, and
tables available for other card or board games.
This club meets each Wednesday, September through June, at the Surrey
Aquatic and Community Centre, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Membership is $5.

CLUB DE L’ÂGE D’OR DE LA PRÉSENTATION
This francophone club meets every Tuesday,
September through May, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m,
at the centre d'hébergement de Dorval
(Foyer Dorval), located at 225 de la Presentation Avenue. Activities
include bingo, cards, as well as trips in the fall for apple picking, and in the
spring for a sugaring-off party.

AFTERNOON BILLIARDS
The Teen Zone, located at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre, has a

HELP FILING YOUR INCOME TAX
Are you living on a low income and need help completing your income
tax forms? The Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec have
volunteers that can help you.
Call the Community Aid Division at 514 633-4100 for more
information.
YOUTH FOR SENIORS
We would like to inform you of a free program called "Youth for
Seniors" offered by the City of Dorval. We have students working for us
who might be able to help you with some of your indoor and outdoor
chores that you might feel are getting a little more difficult to perform
(for example: grass cutting, window washing, and leaf raking).
In order to establish your eligibility in meeting the criteria, as well as to
receive a registration form, please contact the Community Aid Division
at 514 633-4100.
FOOT CLINICS
Foot care clinics are offered at the Surrey Aquatic and Community
Centre and at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre.
The treatments are given by a licensed nurse, certified in
foot care, at a cost of $40 (price subject to change).
