Vice-President’s Message
Happy
Birthday
President’s Message
It's been a long month for me. I was not able to
attend any of our events this month, but I've heard
y'all have been having a great time without me. I
want to give a big congrats to Mike Cooper, the
winner of the 2014 Perry Hampton Memorial
Award. I am expecting to get involved more in
May and hope to see many of you around. Enjoy
this wonderful weather we're having.
The last week and a half has
been really rough. On Friday
April 10th I was involved in a
horrible car wreck. Thankfully
Dave Hemphill was in the car
behind me to help.

Here's something to drool about, speedometer they show does not register below
40mph. I guess that should give us a clue.
At 1244 hp it's more powerful than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
When you drive a Corvette powered Hennessey Venom GT you will definitely feel the
need for speed. The top speed is incredible!
I want to take the time to thank
some special people who
helped me in my time of need.
I want to thank my husband
Lance the most. He dropped
everything to make sure he got
to the hospital right away.
Lance also waited on me hand
and foot while I lay in agony.
Dave Hemphill, thank you for
being there during the accident,
talking to Lance and everyone
else on the scene. Thank you
for delivering the items to
Blanco and picking up anything
else needed. Amy & Forest
Priest, thank you for stepping
up during the picnic to offer help
and for reading the speech.
Special thanks to Amy for
stopping by the house after a
long week at work and a long
drive from San Antonio. Mike
Cooper, thank you for coming to
visit me and bringing yummy
BBQ. Thanks to Lucy and Marty
who sent me emails during the
week to keep my spirits up. I am
very happy Perry Hampton was
a great success and I am
thrilled that people had a great
time. It's going to take time but
I'll eventually get back to my
normal self.

location only, unless otherwise agreed upon by GM.
Howdy Herd,
April was a quiet month as we continued preparing for our Autocross. Everything is
ready except a few odds and ends. Many thanks to those who have helped up to his point and
to those that have committed to helping at the event.
The next major regional event is the high speed autocross at Hallet Motor Racing
Circuit in Jennings, Oklahoma. This is the premier competition event in the region.
th
The next Governor’s meeting is the 13 of June. Please let me know if you have any
business you would like me to take to the region.
Have fun and keep the rubber side down,
Mike Sears
Here’s something you might not have heard…
Facts About the Chevrolet Corvette #8: The new 2014 Corvette Stingray can reach high speeds — in reverse
The top speed in reverse for the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray is an incredible 53 miles per hour. That’s fast! We do not recommend testing it out
for yourself, but we bet it would be fun to try out on a track.
Facts About the Chevrolet Corvette #15: The first Corvette emblem featured an American flag — making it
illegal
Chevrolet had planned to use an American flag in its iconic crossed flag emblem for the Corvette, but before the 1953 release, discovered that it
was illegal to use it. According to National Flag Code, it is illegal to use the flag for advertising purposes, and that includes vehicle emblems.
Chevrolet quickly changed gears and decided to use the fleur de lis, a French symbol for peace and purity.

The Longhorn
Corvette Club
would like to wish
all the moms out
there a very
Happy Mother’s
Day on Sunday,
May 10th.
Meet the Members!
Beth Misner
Mike Martin
Welcome Beth!
Beth joined the LCC a few months ago with a 2011 Grand Sport
supersonic blue with ghost flames, custom paint, that she got
brand new as soon as she didn’t need her “mom-mobile”
st
anymore. It’s her 1 Vette, however, her husband pre-dated her
Vette obsession with a 1995 of his own. She says “I have had a
long-time obsession, inherited from my daddy, who chose my
middle name, Lynette, to rhyme with Corvette. I already had a
cousin named Yvette. My Corvette was even in my wedding
vows!” Now that’s a love of Corvettes! Some fun things that she
likes to do are: drive, drive, drive. “I drive to Granbury every 1014 days to see my dad up there. I really like driving the farm
roads in the Spring to view the wildflower in my Vette. I would
love to put this car in some shows with the pretty paint job.” She
says she can’t WAIT to be in one of our Corvette Cruises. She
has seen our caravans go by before and is excited to be IN one!
Other things to know about Beth: I am a native Texan, just now
getting back home after 29 years out in California. It is so good
to be home, and I love Austin! My husband is from Pittsburgh, but
y'all don't hold that against him, he got into Texas as soon as he
could! We travel a whole lot, and hope to be able to be involved
with the club as much as we can.
I have a 2008 convertible, and as you can see in the photo it is
white with a black top. I acquired it on Jun 28, 2014, from
Corvette World in Austin. It is my first ever Corvette. I came
CLOSE to buying a year old 1972, once, but it was gone
before I got there. C'est la vie.
My first encounter with Corvettes was in 1961, at UT-Austin. I
had a close friend who had a black 1959. We put a ton of
miles on it, and had wanted to do the bit like the TV show
ROUTE 66. We even saw the filming of part of one episode in
Austin. That never materialized, though we did have lots of
fun.
I have always had a thing for convertibles, particularly 2seaters. My first 2 seater was a 1967 Triumph TR4A. A
Corvette was one of two vehicles that I had always
wanted. The other was a 1957 Thunderbird, and I owned for
30 years. I had sold the Thunderbird a couple years ago, and
decided I'd go ahead and get the Corvette. I probably spent 3
or 4 months perusing vehicles on Corvette World's websites
before actually looking at them. The white 2008 seemed the
most desirable of their inventory, and made the deal with them.
I love the car. It is my daily driver, typically, but I also have a
Ford Explorer that is used for general purposes. I enjoy just
driving, out in the country. Generally, I am by myself, but have
a friend that I try to get to ride with me when she can. I hope to
get her to do the trip to Galveston. She's 'out of pocket' till
Friday, so I haven't been able to check with her, as yet.
I am not much for racing or high speeds, but would love to do a
time/distance rally, where the course is laid out, a sheet of
clues given out as to the route and ACCURACY is of the
utmost importance as to speed, miles covered. I did that a few
times years ago when I had an MGB and loved it. We got
some DLBF trophies, but still enjoyed immensely. I said my
navigator was bad, was told my driving was
bad. LOL! (DLBF: DEAD LAST BUT FINISHED)
As for me, I am a CPA, retired. I was in banking for about 30
years, then general accounting. I enjoy music (play piano,
more or less), sometimes doodle with my sketch pad, and have
done some poetry, short stories...none of it published, just for
my on enjoyment.
Chris Kernstock
Chris joins the LCC with his 2015 Stingray, night race blue metallic, Z51, with all the
bells & whistles. It is his sixth corvette since 1989. He bought this new one as a birthday
present to himself in December 2014. Currently, he has another Vette, a 2007, Atomic
Orange coupe which he really likes but he may be selling it soon. He says, “I have
always been a 'car' person and became interested in Corvettes enough to want one
when the C4 body style came out in '84.”
“Kim & I enjoy road trips, and the car makes my commute much more enjoyable on the
occasions when I drive it to work.”
What he wants to get from his club membership: “I guess what I'm looking for from the
club is some social exposure to people with interests similar to mine, i.e. Corvettes.
Historically, I don't get out much, and I'm working on that.”
Well, we are looking forward to seeing you come to our upcoming events and meeting
you and Kim and your lovely new car!
