From the Wolf ’s Den
Superintendent Nicole Hardwick
As you may have heard and seen in previous newsletters we are working hard to get the new Agriculture program and FFA up and running for the start of the next school year! There seems to be a few questions out there about how this will be administered. Loomis and Bertrand will be sharing a teacher for the Ag program that will take place during regular school hours and will be part of our curriculum. The teacher will be housed at Bertrand in the morning and at Loomis in the afternoon. In addition to the agriculture classes to be offered at the school we will also be cooping FFA with Bertrand. FFA will be an extracurricular activity that students can participate in. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to those who have sent donations for the new Ag/FFA programs. Because of your generosity to this project and many others in the past we have been able to continue to offer new programs to our students. Thank you again for your commitment to our students and their education. If you would like to send a donation to help with the start up of either of these programs we would be grateful for your support. The Ag fund and the FFA fund will both be housed at Loomis. Donations made to FFA will support students from both Loomis and Bertrand. The students at Loomis School are our future, and because your commitment to education they are better equipped and prepared for what lies ahead. 1

“Win the Day”
Principle’s Notes—Sam Dunn
Caught Being Good
Eleven students were nominated by
various teachers for ging above and
beyond expectations in and out of
the classrooms. These students
were presented free movie passes
to the Sun Theatre in Holdrege.
Students receiving the passes are:
Jonah Fisher, Calli Terrell, Skylar
Hadley, Brittany Baxter, Yen Bach,
Heather Szekely, Greydin Ludeke,
Branden Blincow, AJ Carlson,
Giovani Panceri and Jack OttingCrandall.
Thank You
The following students graciously
volunteered to help unload supplies
for the Splash Pad. Your help was
greatly appreciated.
This is one of my most favorite times of the
school year! The state wrestling and basketball
tournaments are finishing up. The college basketball
tournament is in full bloom. And, of course, baseball
season is just around the corner. What do all these
athletic contests have in common? The teams, whether
high school, or college and even the professional teams
are “Striving for Excellence”! Whether they have been
crowned state champions or are working toward the
World Series, the athletes are at the top of their game!
Although not every athlete will win a championship, all
athletes have the same goal of “Striving for
Excellence.”
I would like to encourage our students to renew
their goals in academics as well. March brings us
NESA and MAP testing. This is a chance for the
students to show what they know from previously
learned materials. I would hope that our students take
all measures to perform successfully on these mandated
tests. The results give the school a reflection of both
positive and negatives indicators of what we are
accomplishing in school. So, much like the athletes of
March, our students are encouraged to “Strive for
Excellence.”
I would like to take a moment to commend our
9-12 student body for their attention and cooperation
during the Todd Becker Assembly. I was very
impressed with our students, on how they welcomed the
speakers, and our neighboring schools to the assembly.
Jack Allen, Isaac Dunn, Joe Holt,
Greydin Ludeke, Dakota Besmer,
Branden Blincow.

From the desk of Mrs Linda Wells…
The seniors have been given copies of the local Loomis Scholarships. All of the application forms are due in the Counselor’s ofJice on Monday morning April 20 at 8:15. There are nine separate scholarships that our local organizations offer to students. Several of them give more that one scholarship award. I encourage all seniors planning to go on to a post-‐secondary program to apply. All of the forms can be found on the Loomis Public School website under the counselor tab. They are able to complete the forms with their computer or ipad, thanks to Mr. Johnson and Morgan Patterson for making this possible. The scholarships are: Partners in Education, First State Bank, Loomis American Legion Post #335, Loomis Music Association, Loomis Alumni Association, Loomis Community Club, Loomis Education Association, Loomis United Methodist and National Honor Society. Thank you to all of these organizations for their generosity in supporting our students! The winners will be announced at graduation. March 26, 2015

LOOMIS SPEECH
TEAM COMPETES
AT STATE
Loomis sent five entries to the State Speech
Contest. Michaela Marcy was the lone
finalist earning a 3rd place medal on the
podium. Congratulations to Michaela and all
the speech students on a fantastic season!
On any given day, you can find
speech students performing
poetry, OIDs, serious prose,
duets and speeches to anyone
who will listen. Hours of
memorization, tedious writing,
and painful critiques all led to
one moment; District Speech.
At the end of the day, all but one
duet made it to state, and the
team finished 4th. Here’s a
closer look at the state
competitors:
Freshman Christianna Marcy
shocked coaches, teammates and
fans as she rose through the
ranks of novice and then won
districts. She is Loomis’s
youngest state speech
competitor, and the only
extemporaneous performer in
years. In one meet, she often
spends three hours composing
three new speeches. Christiana
and Julia Young also performed
an “I Love Lucy”duet that took
fourth place at the district meet.
district champs who act as a
struggling newly wed couple
who are on the verge of divorce.
Heather plays a carefree wife
and Jack is the uptight lawyer.
Watch their struggle in
“Barefoot in the Park”.
Treianne Park moves
audiences to tears in her serious
prose play, “If I Stay”. She
dramatizes the story of a
teenage girl who loses her family
in a car wreck and must decide
between death and life. As she
clings to life, her young brother
dies, and she questions if life is
still worth living.
OID Champions, Christian
Pavelka, Mason Pederson,
Jack Allen, Heather Szekely
and Jack Otting-Crandall
become a quirky a news station
that is going wild in Crazy Town.
They take us on a wild, hilarious
journey headed for a disastrous
zombie apocalypse.
Michaela Marcy compels us to
take a look at how differences
are what make our society great
in her poetry about an autistic
boy, a deaf girl, and an abused
Kenyan child. She wrote the
final poem after meeting an
inspiring little girl in Kenya who
was abused by her grandma, but
still found joy and hope.

Senior Profiles
Hannah Park
Hannah Park, daughter of Coni Park and Eric Park, would some day
like to be a teacher. She plans to attend college at Hastings CCC to
study Early Childhood. In Hannah’s free time, she works at
Memorial Homes in dietary. Hannah’s favorite subject in school is
Mr. Vrbka’s psychology/sociology class. “You learn some pretty
interesting stuff.” Her advice for upcoming seniors is, “Study for
Governoment tests”.
Greydin Ludeke
Greydin Ludeke is the son of Tami and Justin Snyder and Ryan and
Valerie Ludeke. He is still laughing about “football practice when
Anthony Young did a flip over Kelly Thorell in a tackling drill.
Greydin’s favorite subject in school is Shop because he gets to work
on his own things and to practice in a career area. After high school,
Greydin wants to work as a welder in a refinery. The senior class
name for Greydin is “Greydo”. Greydin shares this advice for
underclassmen, “Enjoy it while you can because before you know it,
you will be on your own.”
Bethanie Pafford
Bethanie Pafford, daughter of Stacy Afford and Robert Pafford, would
someday like to become a music teacher. Bethany says, “I’m going to
Hastings College and majoring in music education. I want to give
private lessons to children with mental disabilities and I am also
considering music therapy.”
