www.LVRR.org Established 1993 May/June 2015 Newsletter Vol. 31 Issue 3 President’s Message The huge sigh that was heard coming out of the Parkway toward the end of April was that of the countless individuals relieved that their responsibilities for the Emmaus 4 Miler, St. Luke’s Youth Run, 5K and Half Marathon were carried out successfully. That easily being the busiest month of the year for the club. The Emmaus 4 Miler was again a wonderful success due to a newly formed race committee, please see the related article. The Youth Run Committee did a wonderful job with our Saturday run prior to our St. Luke’s 5K and Half bringing over 600 youngsters out on Hamilton St. The full Half committee works a full eight months in preparation for the event. We were extremely fortunate to have so many new people step up to fill positions that were open. The list of the entire committee is listed further in the newsletter. A very neat thing is our new APPAREL STORE, go to our home page and check it out. It allows you to buy dozens of different LVRR apparel in any number of colors and have the items shipped directly to you. The club makes no money off of any purchases but just wants to get our brand out there. This is the first edition of our newsletter that will be sent totally digitally. We have experienced very slow mailings from a number of printers so the board decided that the cost coupled with the up to three-week delays were too much to bear. The newsletter will instead be 1 e-mailed to members. For those who have opted out of e-mail, it can be viewed on the LVRR home page with the member log in LVRR. Our First Summer Series had over 160 finishers despite a threatening evening. The covered dish portion of the event was very disheartening and we will give it one more month to see if it picks up, if people don’t want to participate we will discontinue the practice. This April, it took a village of race directors and volunteers to plan and execute the 38th Annual Emmaus 4 Miler. Why so many people? LVRR bid farewell to the long-time race director, Mike Richardson. He and his wife Dee relocated to Florida last fall. With his departure, four new race directors were asked to join the existing team of Lloyd and Jack to continue the tradition. We quickly learned that Mike knew everyone in Emmaus! His years of hard work helped make the transition an easy one. We couldn’t have asked for a better race day! The sun was out 2 3 and there was a slight breeze when Wes from Wesley Works took the mic and got the party started. We had more than 40 children participate in the pre-race Fun Mile. Our firstplace female was 11-year-old Hailey Reinhard with a time of 6:01! 10-year-old Tyson Karrat placed first for the boys with a time of 6:25! The 4 Miler had over 315 finishers with Ian Walsh from Easton crushing the course in 20:18. Ian came in 2nd place last year and placed 1st in 2011 and 2012. Our first place female was Carolyn Dunham from Center Valley, who finished strong at 24:46. Carolyn came in 2nd place last year and placed 1st in both 2012 and 2013. This race would not have continued without the help of the many volunteers you saw everywhere! Registration, on the course, at the finish, and in the kitchen. We also thank the sponsors who donated food and beverages and our finisher awards. But most importantly, we thank you for helping us keep this annual race going strong. We look forward to seeing you next April 10, 2016. 2015 GOLD Sponsors ($250 or more) include: David A.
