WHAT IS ROUNDUP?
It doesn’t matter whether you have a small flower border or vegetable garden,
weed infested paths and drives or a large estate, Roundup® weedkiller has just
the answer for you. You can choose between the convenience of ready-to-use
sprays or great value liquid concentrates.
HOW DOES ROUNDUP WORK?
Roundup systemic action weed killer is absorbed by the leaves of plants but has
no effect in the soil. It is absorbed into the plants sap stream and is then carried to
the growing points of the roots and shoots of the plant where it prevents further
growth. This ensures that not only the leaves and shoots will die but also the roots.
Therefore Roundup will kill almost all weeds and unwanted plants including deeprooted perennials such as Marestail, Bindweed and Nettles.

WHAT DO I DO?
• F or most garden weeds the best time to apply Roundup is when the weeds
are actively growing between March and September.
• R
oundup can be used safely to control weeds before digging, seeding
or planting.
• F or the best weed control, allow sufficient time for the Roundup to be
absorbed before disturbing either the soil or the plant. This is usually one
day for annual weeds and one week for perennial weeds.
• R
oundup is not absorbed through woody tissue so it may be sprayed, with
care, around the bases of woody plants.
• Treated weeds can be composted without fear of harming future crops.
APPLICATION PERIOD
Weather permitting, use Roundup any time between February and November.

HOW SAFE IS ROUNDUP TO USE?
• Childen and pets can play in treated areas once the Roundup has dried.
• R
oundup is absorbed immediately and degrades in soil so that new plantings
can be made the next day.
• For more safety information see page 10 & 11.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT TO HAPPEN AFTER TREATMENT?
•
Roundup is systemic and kills plants from the ‘inside-out’ therefore the effects can appear to be slow but will be very thorough. Typically, the youngest
leaves or shoots turn yellow about one week after treatment, then the
rest of the plant turns yellow or brown and dies. Use Fast Action Roundup
Ready to Use to see results in just a few days.
•
The time taken for the symptoms to develop will be dependent on several
factors, such as the type of weed being treated, the time of year and speed
of growth.
•
Grasses will always show effects before other plants. Sometimes it can seem
that grasses have been killed whilst other weeds have not been affected.
•
Tough weeds, like nettles and brambles may take up to four weeks to show
any signs at all. This is because they will have such extensive root systems
but Roundup will kill the weeds… dead, once and for all!

ROUNDUP GC ® LIQUID CONCENTRATES
Great value for larger areas
Roundup is also available as a concentrated liquid to mix yourself. This may be
preferable if you have a large area to cover and it is available in four sizes ranging
from 140m² up to 1000m².
1. Simply remove the security band and squeeze to release the child-resistant
measuring cap. Fill the cap to the 20ml mark for quick growing annual weeds
and for tougher weeds like Nettles and Bindweed use 40ml. Read the label
for full instructions
2. Add this amount to 1 litre of water if you are using a sprayer. If you are using a watering can (fitted with a fine rose or weed killer sprinkler bar) add this
amount to 5 litres of water.
For that extra large area Roundup Ultra 3000 is now available. This is an extra
concentrated form suitable for a coverage of a massive 3000m².

Along with other unwanted
vegetation around the garden,
tree saplings and stumps that
re-grow can be a real problem.
In this situation, Roundup Tree
Stump & Root Killer will provide
the best solution for you.
It comes in an easy to use
dispensing bottle which ensures
correct mixing every time.
Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer
can be applied by using a brush. Pay
particular attention to the outer ring of
the tree as this is where re-growth will
commence.
When treating standing trees, make
notches in the bark to ensure good
penetration and apply using a brush.
You can then relax and rest easy in the knowledge that your unwanted
vegetation, trees or stumps will soon have died right down to their roots so they
cannot grow back.
DIFFICULT WEEDS
Some weeds are particularly difficult to eradicate, and for these the best approach
is to treat them with Roundup around flowering time or at maximum growth.
Many of the difficult weeds such as Nettles, Brambles, Thistles and Docks may be
treated most effectively at this time.
Below are some hints and tips to enable you to get the very best control of some
of the more invasive and difficult weeds.
1. Bindweed
This is often a problem where the weed is present in
borders amongst valued plants. The bindweed needs
to be pulled away from cultivated plants and grown up
canes in order that spray may be directed at the weeds
without affecting other plants.
1
2. Marestail
The patented action of Roundup weed killers allows for
good penetration even through the waxy coating on
Marestail. Use in mid July for best effect and then treat
any re-growth which occurs in early September.
3. Ground Elder
Ground Elder is a very shallow rooting plant and when
treated in the summer months it may well be suffering
from drought conditions. In order to get good circulation
of the Roundup throughout the plants system, water the
weeds a few times during the 10 days prior to treatment.
This will undoubtedly improve the effect of Roundup on
the weeds.
4. Japanese Knotweed
This is the most pernicious of weeds and will require
some persistence to eradicate it completely. By mid
July the aerial growth may be in excess of 2-3m making
spraying somewhat impractical. Therefore, either spray
with Roundup or cut back with a scythe when the plants
are about 1m high. The resulting re-growth will then be a
manageable height to spray in mid-July.

When treating after mid August, cut the stems to a height of 200mm and 40mm
above a node. Rupture the central tissue with a screwdriver and apply 10ml of a
20% solution of Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer into the hollow stem. See
label for full instructions.
BEST PRACTISES
It is always wise to follow a few simple
guidelines when using any garden
chemicals.
1. Remember! Always read the instructions
before you buy and use the product as
directed.
2. Children and pets can play in treated
areas once the Roundup has dried.
3. To avoid any drift choose a calm, cool
day to control your weeds. Choose a
dry day to spray as rain within 6 hours of
spraying may reduce the effectiveness of
the treatment.
4. When using concentrates always wash
out the sprayer or watering can after use.
Use a separate, labelled sprayer or can
for use with weed killers-only to avoid
any damage to cultivated plants. Store all
weed killers out of the reach of children
and animals and preferably in a locked
cupboard.
5. Always keep the product in its original
container and ensure the labels are securely
attached and legible. Always purchase in
quantities you will use quickly to avoid
long periods of storage. Once diluted,
the mixture cannot be stored and any
remaining must be disposed of as directed
on the product label.
10
6. It is advisable to wear protective clothing,
e.g. rubber gloves and old clothes, when
mixing and applying garden chemicals.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY INFORMATION
• D
ispose of small quantities of unwanted weed killers by diluting & using on wasteland or bare soil or gravel paths as it does not leave any harmful residues.
• L arger quantities should be disposed of properly. Contact the local authority
waste disposal section, who will advise on their disposal procedures.
• E mpty weed killer containers should be washed out thoroughly and disposed of
through normal household waste disposal routes. Garden chemical containers
are not suitable for recycling.
• R
oundup will affect most plants therefore it is important to avoid damaging
valued plants with either spray or spray drift. If you do accidentally spray a leaf
then simply pick it off, or wash immediately with lots of water
• Roundup is a great grass killer… So be careful where you spray!
