POSTING PERIOD: April 27-May 11, 2015 Community Education Director (Full-time position) Start Date July 1, 2015 Paw Paw Public Schools 119 Johnson Street Paw Paw, MI 49079 Ph 269-657-8800 Fx 269-657-7292 www.ppps.org Minimum Qualifications Masters Degree Valid Michigan teaching certificate Valid Michigan administrator certificate Position Requirements At least three years of successfully teaching at-risk students Experience with online and blended learning Knowledge about alternative education and experience with GED preparation/testing Knowledge, or willingness to acquire knowledge about adult education programs and services Knowledge, or willingness to acquire knowledge about early childhood programs and services Strong oral and written communication skills High level of computer literacy, tech-savvy Willingness and capacity to utilize reflection and process input in making decisions Willingness to work collaboratively with building, District and area support agency staff Willingness to embrace and lead necessary changes in operation/organization Strong commitment to meeting the needs of non-traditional learners Strong commitment to serving the District and the community at large Position Responsibilities Program Development, Review and Restructuring: Develop programs, classes and activities to meet the needs of the District and the community. Determination of needs to be based upon both formal and informal ongoing input from the District and the public. Annually review with staff existing programs relative to student/participant success, cost effectiveness and projected continuing need. Seek staff input relative to programming suggestions. Restructure programs and services as needed. Program and Staff Oversight: Oversee staff recruiting, make hiring and dismissal recommendations; carry out any necessary staff disciplinary actions. Schedule and assign all Community Education staff in accordance with program needs, appropriate contracts, District policies and State law. Observe and evaluate Community Education staff. Arrange for Professional Development for all staff to meet staff and program needs and in accordance with District policy, appropriate licensing requirements and State law. Oversee summer online program. Budgeting and Financial Planning: Prepare annual budgets for all Community Education programs in accordance with rules and regulations of funding sources and submit to District Business Manager for approval. Prepare and submit budget revisions in accordance with District procedures. Prepare/assist with submission of grants supporting Community Education programs. Oversee all Community Education expenditures. Monitor all Community Education revenue streams. Monitor enrollment trends to project program stability. Monitor and seek out emerging funding streams. Make/recommend budgeting and staffing adjustments as needed to ensure that Community Education remains self-supporting. School and Community Relations: Schedule and oversee the publication of the District newsletter. Oversee the production, scheduling and cablecasting of public access television programs. Develop and maintain positive, effective working relationships with area agencies and service organizations. Oversee the production of Community Education program brochures, television spots, banners and other communication pieces to raise awareness of the availability of programs and services. Maintain effective working relationships with area districts as well as local and regional collaborative grant partners. Participate in appropriate District meetings/committees as determined by the Superintendent. Communication: Maintain the ongoing communication, both within the District and with the community and area agencies and service organizations that is key to planning, providing and maintaining appropriate and effective Community Education programs and services. Position Note Being the administrator for Community Education in Paw Paw is akin to running a small district within a district. Because Community Education is able to utilize all of the funding it generates to enable it to be self-supporting, being the Community Education Director entails responsibilities different from those of a traditional building administrator. Since it is the Director’s responsibility to ensure that the program runs within its revenue, the position requires watching funding and enrollment trends, forecasting what’s ahead and preparing and adjusting budgets as each year progresses. Working closely with the District Business Director is essential to this process. While planning and budgeting is sometimes challenging, the Community Education Director in Paw Paw is fortunate to have the opportunity to keep the program running in whatever configuration will meet the District and State requirements, be self-supporting and best serve the needs our students.
