Box 482000 New Haven, MI 48048 May, 2015 Minimum Professional Qualifications The School District The successful applicant shall New Haven Community Schools serves a population of 1380 students from pre-Kindergarten through the 12th grade. Currently, there are approximately 100 students per grade level. The district offers a comprehensive K-12 curriculum with a full range of special education and career preparation programs. New Haven has four buildings that make up the school district: New Haven Elementary School (K-5), Endeavour School (a 6-8 school with a K-5 wing), New Haven High School (grades 9-12), and a newly renovated Administration and Pre-K building. The district covers an area of about 50 square miles with a population of 13,000. It is primarily a rural area. Currently, the school district is poised for residential growth. Several of our subdivisions are seeing new construction, most of that near Endeavour. Residents and voters in the district continue to be very supportive of the district and its needs. Major Functions and Responsibilities • • $12,000,000 The district has almost eliminated a long-standing deficit, has stable enrollment, has improved its reputation, and improved dramatically at the high school level with a two-point ACT increase in four years. We are looking for a leader who will assess what is currently in place; continue on those paths which data shows are working, and abandon practices which data shows are not working. Our staff and community is looking for an instructional leader and an ambassador for the district. Leads all phases of human resources including evaluation of building administrators, contract negotiations with all employee groups, and management of employment practices. Supervises and makes sound decisions regarding the fiscal management of district funds in general fund, bond and entitlement programs. • Communicates effectively with staff, students, parents and the community through a variety of means both verbally and in writing. • Develops and maintains public relations between New Haven Community Schools and parents, students, the community, higher education and local businesses and industries. • Works cooperatively with principals, teachers and others to plan and implement all instructional programs. • Creates increased opportunities for student clubs, groups, advisory committees, and activities that contribute to a positive district culture and climate. Critical Concerns New Haven Community Schools is looking for an educational leader who understands instruction and has a proven track record of increasing student achievement. Endeavour Middle School is a Focus School and New Haven Elementary ranks at the 29th percentile on the MDE Top to Bottom list. Provides leadership to direct all phases of the operation of district programs, including day-today operations of the district. • 4 Operating Budget Have a Master’s Degree or higher in educational leadership, school administration, curriculum or related field. • Maintains visibility throughout district and community by attending school and community events and serving on community committees. Compensation The Superintendent of Schools works 52 weeks per year, which includes approved holidays and vacations.
