BROOKE CHARTER SCHOOLS AMERICORPS MASSACHUSETTS PROMISE FELLOW/ CAREER SUPPORT SPECIALIST AmeriCorps Massachusetts Promise Fellows deliver the resources young people need to be successful in life by creating, managing, and leading meaningful out-of-school time programs for youth in grades 6-12. Fellow projects focus on mentoring, social and emotional learning, college and career readiness, academic enrichment, and community service-learning. The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship achieves this by placing AmeriCorps Fellows with non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies that focus on fulfilling the needs of our youth by providing: a caring adult, a safe place, a healthy start, a marketable skill, and an opportunity to give back. SERVICE DESCRIPTION BOSTON-Brooke Charter Schools has an unrelenting focus on getting our scholars to and through college. Our three K-8 schools serve to prepare students for the academic rigors of high school, however it is the mission of the Office of High School and College Success (OHSCS) to ensure that all Brooke Alumni: a) complete high school b) are prepared with the skills and experiences necessary to enroll in and graduate from a higher education institution. The Fellow will work collaboratively with OHSCS staff to secure participation of 25 high school age alumni to take part in the career pathway programming. Out of school time programming for the career pathway participants will include a.) individual meetings with the Fellow to assess current career knowledge and interests and to work on readiness skills and behaviors b.) career workshops c.) job shadow opportunities d.) summer job or internship placement and e.) monthly community service opportunities. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES  Develop career workshops for the career pathway program; design and implement curricula to include resume development, networking, interview skills, etc.  Identify and cultivate individuals in a variety of professional sectors to host career pathway participants for a workday  Work with all career pathway participants to secure a summer job/internship placement  Catalog, create, and implement effective resources to expand the number of Brooke alumni participating in career enrichment opportunities  Organize monthly community service opportunities for career pathway participants and alumni.  Enhance the summer opportunity counseling services for students/families in grades 4-8 and alumni in grades 9-10  Travel at least once/month for Fellowship meetings, retreats, and training throughout the Commonwealth Massachusetts Promise Fellowship Northeastern University  360 Huntington Avenue, 212 CP  Boston, MA 02115 [email protected]  www.masspromisefellows.org QUALIFICATIONS  Excellent organizational and communication skills  The ability to work independently and as part of a team  An interest in and commitment to national and community service  The desire to work with diverse constituencies  Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously  Ability to see the big picture without losing sight of the details  Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills  Professional and mature  Previous work/volunteer experience with high school students and a strong ability to connect professionally with young adults  Ability to work a flexible schedule that often includes evenings and weekends  BA/BS Required  17 years of age or older  Must be a US Citizen, US National or Permanent Resident Alien  Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry both in Massachusetts and your state of residence upon application to our program (if not Massachusetts), and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in MPF is contingent on the results of this screening BENEFITS For a one year full-time commitment and 1700 hours of AmeriCorps service Fellows receive: A taxable living allowance of $14,500/year  Excellent training opportunities  FREE courses at Northeastern University in the College of Professional Studies & discounted courses upon successfully completing the service year  Loan forbearance and a $5,730 educational award  Monthly travel allowance Career coaching and support  Healthcare benefits CONTACT INFORMATION Apply ASAP!
