FACULTY:
It is a great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 2nd edition of the Paediatric
EEG practical course (PEPC) here at Bangalore Baptist Hospital. Our aim
through this course and its predecessor, the Master class in Paediatric
Epilepsy held in Feb 2015, is to empower physicians treating epilepsy in
neonates and children and to improve standards of care in this field.
Dr. M S Gopinath,
Epilepsy and EEG in the paediatric age group is a fascinating field rich in
many age dependent variations and specific epilepsy syndromes exclusive
to childhood. The wider range of normal variations in the EEGs of various age
groups and the presence of age dependent maturational elements make
paediatric EEGs more prone to errors and over reporting, when judged
through adult standards. The 2nd edition of PEPC is herethanks to the
excellent response we received to its 1stedition held at Chennai in May 2014.
This course like its predecessor is rooted in a dream. A dream to change the
way we practice Paediatric Neurology in our country. We now have many
well-trained subspecialists in the field who are dedicated and motivated and
who share this dream. Through this course we hope to bridge the gap
between Paediatricians, Neurologists, Paediatric Neurologists and
neurophysiologists, by bringing together these experts to share their
knowledge and skills with you.
The course has a few lectures on basics of EEG but is mainly workshopbased, with small interactive groups. PEPC is aimed at those who treat
epilepsy in childhood, mainly postgraduate trainees, Paediatricians and
Neurologists. We welcome you all to actively participate in this new learning
experience.
