Position Summary
This role contributes to the provision of high quality efficient and
effective dental health services to patients through clinical support
activities.
The Dentist is a highly competent and highly experienced dentist
responsible for the provision of a broad range of clinical services.

Key Accountabilities
Merri Community Health Services (MCHS) provides a range of
services including dental, allied health disciplines, generalist and
specialist counselling programs, aged and disability services, case
management, family support, carer support programs, and social
support programs for people with a mental illness as well as health
promotion programs. A detailed description services offered by MCHS

Clinical Duties
 Manage clients within competency and experience levels; referring
patients to, or consulting with, more experienced dentists and peers
where appropriate
 To provide high quality clinical care consistent with DHSV Clinical
Guidelines and MCHS policies.
 To be qualified and knowledgeable in the taking of intra oral
radiographs
 Provide compassionate, effective and efficient dental services
within guidelines specified by the CPD, including appropriate
waiting list management
 To ensure users of service are treated in a manner which respects
their cultural beliefs and practices, including facilitating the use of
interpreters when required.
 Participate in the provision of outreach dental services, screening,
early detection and oral health promotion.
 Ensure safe use and maintenance of dental equipment according to
manufacturer’s guidelines, take responsibility of maintenance of
equipment, and to advise the Senior Dentist and Practice Manager,
Dental Services on the condition of the dental equipment
 Ensure high level of infection control within the dental facility and to
be compliant in all infection control procedures dictated by the clinic
and by the AS/NZS 4815:2006
 To keep up to date with CPD as directed by AHPRA

 Maintain up to date electronic client records in accordance with
MCHS Client Record Policy
 Demonstrated commitment to OH&S and Infection Control Policies

Activities
 Contribute to other relevant MCHS activities as directed by the CEO
through the Senior Dentist and Practice Manager, Dental Services
 Undertake professional development in accordance with an annual
work plan developed in consultation with the Senior Dentist as part
of the annual staff review process
 To actively participate in regular Clinical Supervision Sessions
 Other administrative duties as directed by the Senior Dentist and
Practice Manager, Dental Services especially during quiet clinic
times or patient no shows and cancellations

 Record and advise Senior Dentist on the number of internal
referrals
 Knowledge of clinical reporting and coding on Titanium Program
 Compliance with OH&S, Infection Control policies
 Record of incident reports
 Achievement of goals set in performance work plan both in relation
to job accountabilities and professional development.
Essential
 Current registration with AHPRA, current Victorian Radiation Use
Licence, current Medicare Provider/Registration Number, Current
Dental Prescriber Number
 High level of clinical competence and a demonstrated commitment
to the provision of appropriate, high quality dental services with a
focus on public health principles
 Excellent understanding of Infection Control Procedures
 Advanced interpersonal and communication skills and
demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member
 Demonstrated commitment to continuing personal and professional
development
 Understanding of issues associated with culturally and linguistically
diverse communities and High level of skills including Customer
Service particularly in dealing with internal and external clients from
diverse backgrounds and with special needs, effective teamwork
skills
 Ability to commit to MCHS values and philosophy, and capacity to
engage in the enhancement of MCHS culture in meeting
organisational objectives
 Knowledge of Confidentiality and Privacy protocols, MCHS
administrative procedures and OH&S policies and procedures
