third term Interim Report. This is the last informal reporting period prior to the
final report card of the year. This is an important time to check to see the current progress of your
son/daughter as we prepare for the final stages of this academic year.

NEWS AND NOTICES Junior Boys Rugby
After an undefeated regular season, the McMath Junior Boys Rugby team represented the school
proudly winning the Richmond Cup, the Vancouver League, and finishing runner up in the recent
Vancouver and District Championship Playoffs. Thanks Josie for the photo.
2 “Into the Woods” a Great Success
Congratulations to the students of Ms. Wilkinson’s Musical Theatre Class for their hard work and
brilliant performance of “Into the Woods.” The hours of preparation were definitely worth it as the
show was a wonderful tribute to the talent and determination of all who participated. Thanks to all
who came out to support our students.

night run.
Nepal Fund Raiser
Congratulations and thanks to the students and staff of McMath for raising money in a quickly
organized coin drive to support the relief efforts in Nepal. After the devastation that took place, Ms.
Laub and her grade eight classes got hard at work raising money to donate for this worthwhile
cause. Though the fundraising is over, it is not too late if you wish to contribute. Thanks Jordan for
the photo.

4 JUL 28, AUG 4, AUG 11/15 - Kwantlen Polytechnic University(KPU) - Career Exploration
Series
This program offers interactive and fun (3) sessions to assist students with their career clarification.
This will include clarifying student skills, desires, assets, Myers Briggs Type assessment and exploring
career concepts through activities. These sessions will take place at the Surrey Campus in the Arbutus
2410 Room, from 12-3 pm each day (Tuesdays) and are free for all KPU students. To register call

Additional seats are now open for the fall intake at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. From MCAT
preparation to mindfulness training, Selkirk College's extensively researched curriculum has been

Bishop’s University students can now fund school fees with loyalty miles
Bishop’s University is Quebec’s first university to join the HigherEdPoints.com Program as a
Participating Institution. Students can now convert Aeroplan Miles into funds to cover their tuition and
school fees. Family members and friends may also convert their Aeroplan Miles to add to the tuition
payment. For every 35,000 Aeroplan Miles, a $250 credit is issued to a student named by the donor.

SCHOLARSHIP INFO
MAY 22/15 (before 4pm) - Robert Thomas Carkner - Legacy of Leadership Scholarship
Award
This scholarship is available for Gr 12 students in the 2014-2015 school year.
Criteria for this $500 scholarship (presented by Dolphins Basketball Association in honour of Mr.
Carkner's contribution to education and athletics) include:
-Leadership, Responsibility and Service within the school (extra-curricular);
-Leadership, Responsibility and Service within the community;
-Athletic Participation and Leadership; and
-Academic achievement (min. GPA 70%)
-A document (250 words) explaining how the scholarship will contribute to the applicants' development
of leadership skills and goals as well as the applicants's involvement in future athletics.

MAY 29/15 - Thompson Community Association Phil Brown Award deadline
The award honors a student graduating from a Richmond High School who has significantly contributed
to the Thompson Community Association and the community. The award must be used toward further
education, although not necessarily a traditional post-secondary institution. An award of $500 will be
presented at the graduation ceremony (ies) of the successful applicant (s) with proof of acceptance

JUN 12/15 BC Epilepsy Society Award deadline
Education is one of the most important paths to determine future achievement. This is why access to
post-secondary education is essential, particularly when you live with the added challenges of epilepsy.
To assist people with epilepsy, the BC Epilepsy Society offers post-secondary scholarships to those
who currently attend or plan to attend a post-secondary institution or employment training program. in
2015 four $2500 scholarships will be awarded to individuals who are BC residents, ages 16 and older,
are Canadian citizens or who have landed immigrant status, under a physicians' care for epilepsy, and
have a current BC Epilepsy Society membership

The APEG Foundation offers several entry scholarships to British Columbia high school graduates
entering engineering or earth science programs at the University of British Columbia, University of
Victoria, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Institute of Technology and the University of
Northern British Columbia. The entry scholarships are awarded on the basis of a combination of
factors, including academic standing, extracurricular activities, financial need and a student statement.

MAY 19/15 - Youth Leadership Field Course application deadline
The Metro Vancouver Sustainability Toolbox is a unique and experience-based youth leadership boot-
6 camp for Grade 10, 11 and 12 students who are passionate about influencing sustainability in their
school communities through action, collaboration and leadership. Students receive four credits in
Sustainability Studies 11, recognized by BC's Ministry of Education. Course runs Aug 16-21st as well

MAY 29/15 Soldier for a Day - application deadline
The Canadian Forces Reserves invites students who are Canadian Citizens and are in Grades 10 - 12,
to participate in the Army Reserves' - 'Soldier for a Day" on Saturday, June 6th. This program is an
introduction to the role of a reservist both here in Canada and around the world. This day is worth 5
hours of work experience. For more information and the application, see your counsellor or your career
advisor. Note... to receive 'work experience' credit, students must also complete a Richmond School
Board 'non-standard' work site agreement form, available from Ms. Bernard in the Career Centre.
JUN 12/15 - ECUAD Summer Institute for Teens Application Deadline
This one month (July 6-30th) immersive program introduces teens between the ages of 15 - 18, to the
opportunity to develop a portfolio of work and ends with a public exhibition in the Concourse Gallery.
Takes place at the Granville Island location from 9-4pm. Registrations do not need to include a
portfolio and students may choose from a number of studio areas of concentration. Cost is $2,340 for
Canadian and PR students and $2,750 for international students. More details and application forms:

JUN 16/15 Summer 2015 'S.T.E.P.' (Skilled Trades Exploration Program) - application
deadline
Are you currently completing your grade 11 year and wondering what to do this summer? If so,
consider applying for the Richmond School District SUMMER 2015 Skilled Trade Exploration Program
(Also known as “Summer STEP”). Come “step into the shoes” of a maintenance employee at the school
district works yard. Apply for work for up to 8 weeks this summer with the Richmond School Board
Works Yard as a maintenance assistant, and to learn skills in outdoor groundwork, painting, millwork
and carpentry. Students must have a social insurance number, a bank account, and be in good
physical health and must be willing to do general labour, supporting the maintenance department.
