Executive Assistant to the
Transforming Church Director and Team
Birmingham is the UK’s second city with the youngest urban population in one of the most lively and diverse
regions. The Church of England Birmingham includes parishes in Birmingham and parts of Solihull, Sandwell,
Warwickshire and Worcestershire. We have 188 churches and worship centres with an average Sunday
attendance of 14,000 from a population of 1.5 million.
This is a new role in an emerging team. The team is responsible for facilitating the delivery of The Church of
England Birmingham’s mission strategy “Transforming Church” and also the “Growing Younger” initiative which

You will be responsible for the smooth running of a busy and growing team. The role will develop as the team
grows and this is your chance to be in at the start of something new and exciting.
Key Accountabilities
• Diary and travel management for the Transforming Church Director.
• Arrange meetings, prepare agendas, set-up rooms, provide refreshments, take minutes, and manage follow-up
actions.
• Represent the Transforming Church Director in correspondence and at meetings as required.
• Organise events and conferences including Christian retreats and residentials - participating in these as
required.
• Prepare communications material including resource packs, presentations and other written documents.
• Take ownership of the digital presence for the Growing Younger Programme including social media and the
relevant pages of the Church of England Birmingham website.
• Design and maintain databases.
• Take part in strategy and planning meetings (currently weekly).
• Provide additional administrative support to the Growing Younger Programme Director and the wider
Transforming Church team including occasional research and project management.
• Create a welcoming office environment for visitors and team members.
• Manage a library of resources to support the work of Transforming Church throughout the parishes.
• Recruit, supervise, coach and train a team of volunteers to support
the Transforming Church programme.
• Coordinate prayer support for Transforming Church.
• The role holder will be encouraged to participate in daily prayer
meetings and other prayer activities.
• All members of the Transforming Church Team are expected to
actively promote the vision of Transforming Church.
Person Specification
• Supportive of the Church of England and a passion for living the mission of Jesus.
(There is an occupational requirement that the role holder is a practicing Christian.)
• Proven track record of successfully working in a PA/Administrative role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proof-reading skills, and a strong attention to detail.
• Outstanding organisational and prioritisation skills; being flexible to adapt to changing circumstances.
• Strong working knowledge of MS (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Social Media (Twitter, Facebook
etc.).
• Creativity and design experience would be helpful but not essential.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Ability to relate to a wide range of different people in different roles including clergy, lay employees, volunteers
and community partners.
• Confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
• Warm and friendly with resilience and good humour.
Terms and Conditions
• The employer is The Birmingham Diocesan Board of Finance.
• Salary of between £25,000 and £30,000 depending on skills and experience.
• Full-time, normal working week of 35 hours.

• Annual holidays of 25 days plus public holidays plus three discretionary days at the discretion of the Employer,
usually offered between Christmas and New Year.
• Normally based at The Church of England Offices in 1 Colmore Row, Birmingham. Travel throughout the
Birmingham diocese may be required.
• The successful candidate may join the Church Workers Pension Fund (Defined Contribution Scheme). The
Employer will contribute 12% of salary per annum and employees can make additional voluntary contributions
into the Pension Scheme.
