| fact sheet | Liposonix Fat Reduction What should I expect from Liposonix Fat Reduction? If you’re close to your ideal shape, but need a little help getting there, Liposonix may be for you. Liposonix treatments use noninvasive, high-intensity focused ultrasound to permanently get rid of targeted fat around your waistline (abdomen and love handles) without surgery. The average waistline reduction after just a single one-hour treatment is about 1 inch (2.5 cm)–which typically means one dress or pant size. Larger treatment areas and individuals who are slightly over weight may be better treated with the SmartLipo or BodyJet tumescent liposuction. Your provider will help you choose the best option for you. How does Liposonix Fat Reduction work? With many other non-invasive fat reduction technologies, such as radiofrequency and lasers, energy is highly absorbed or scattered near the skin surface, thereby limiting penetration into subcutaneous fat tissue and delivering only temporary results. Ultrasound energy, on the other hand, can be used to penetrate through the skin layers and into the targeted fat tissue without harming skin or surrounding tissues. Other ultrasound body contouring technologies often use low-intensity, low-frequency, or unfocused energy which can require multiple treatments and lead to unpredictable results. The Liposonix system uses high-intensity focused ultrasound energy to permanently destroy targeted subcutaneous fat and deliver uniform, predictable results after a single one-hour treatment. Is the treatment painful? During treatment, you may feel discomfort, cold, prickling, tingling, or warmth, which are generally described as mild. After treatment, there may be some bruising, redness, and swelling. Then, for 8 to 12 weeks after treatment, your body will naturally process and permanently remove the destroyed fat tissue. With less fat, your body will be naturally slimmer, with a sleeker, more contoured waistline. Gateway Aesthetic Institute & Laser Center 1 OF 2 How many treatments are required for best results? That is the beauty of the Liposonix treatment, one treatment, in about an hour. Is Liposonix right for me? Liposonix is not for everyone. But if you are close to your ideal size and have stubborn, unwanted fat around your waistline you just can’t seem to get rid of with diet and exercise, then yes, Liposonix may be for you. The best way to know for sure is to schedule a consultation. There are also some general factors that can help you determine if you are an appropriate candidate. Candidates for Liposonix treatment must: • Be able to “pinch-an-inch” (2.5 cm) of fat in the treatment area • Have a body mass index (BMI) equal to or less than 30 • Have good overall health • Have realistic expectations about the results How is Liposonix differ from Zeltiq? Liposonix and Coolsculpting are both FDA-approved noninvasive technologies for reduction of localized fat tissue that is disproportionate to the rest of the body. Zeltiq uses cold therapy to reduce the number of fat cells in areas that can be pinched between two paddles. Liposonix uses focused ultrasound energy to destry fat tissue in a specific, mapped out layer. The Liposonix applicator is much more focused and precise, which provides for a more artful body sculpting than the large applicators of Zeltiq that can only be used on the abdomen and waist and often result in a dimple in a localized area of fat that is not artfully sculpted. With both procedures, the fat cells that are destroyed are re-absorbed by the body over a period of several weeks for a permanent effect. What should I do to prepare for Liposonix Fat Reduction? Success requires vigorous daily exercise, a healthy diet, and hydration with at least 64 ounces of water per day. This is necessary to burn the fat released following the Liposonix treatment. Liposonix Fat Reduction is not intended for those seeking significant weight loss or for patients who do not live a healthy lifestyle. No body contouring treatment, including liposuction, will work without a healthy eating plan and increased physical activity. Do you still have questions?
