Transformative Track

MedTech Innovator’s Transformative track features themes selected by 26 leading MedTech
manufacturers and providers. To be considered for the Transformative track, a company’s
submission must communicate how their technology will deliver improved value, i.e. improving
patient outcomes, care and safety while lowering the overall cost of healthcare. Examples are
provided for the types of technologies that could fit in a particular category but are not limited to
those examples. Early-stage medical device, diagnostic, digital health, and health IT companies
that provide a solution to one or more of the general problems described in the themes below
can apply until May 15 at http://medtechinnovator.com/2015

Big Data and Analytics – e.g. technologies to collect and analyze massive quantities of
data to improve decision making and outcomes; interfacing with the electronic medical
record; predictive analytic models; clinical trial selection; post-implant data collection;
device registry technologies
●
Chronic Disease Management – e.g. innovations in treating and monitoring chronic
conditions and preventing acute events; examples could includes treating diseases with
devices that have been historically managed with drugs, e.g. Heart Failure; Diabetes,
Obesity, Oncology, Hypertension, Arthritis / Osteoarthritis
●
Digital Health Meets Medical Device – e.g. technologies and platforms to manage or
communicate with devices; sensor integration; digital therapeutics; mobile apps as
devices; wearable technologies; medical device connectivity in the hospital / “Internet of
things in the Hospital”
●
Integrated Services and Solutions – e.g., innovative services and solutions for
improving the quality and efficiency of care; remote monitoring; hospital efficiency;
inventory management; billing accuracy and claims management
●
Patient Safety – e.g. innovations in prevention of never events, adverse events &
medication errors; medication safety & assurance; decision support for diabetes mgmt;
acute care & accountable care activities; reducing infections, needlestick & exposure
hazards; effective and consistent decontamination and sterilization of medical devices
●
Patient Satisfaction – e.g. innovations for improving the patient experience and patient
satisfaction; patient management solutions; decreasing wait times; improving patient to
caregiver communication; health education; smart rooms
●
Personalized MedTech – e.g. technologies that utilize an aspect of personalized
medicine, such as next generation sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, etc. for
clinical decision making, clinical trial design and enrollment; device-on-demand / 3D
printed devices
●
Point of Care Diagnostics – e.g. near-patient testing; diagnostics performed at hospital
bedside, provider office, retail settings, such as the minute clinic, etc.; examples could
use innovations like multi-analyte detection from small blood samples, DNA, breath, and
other physiological measurements
●
Shifting to Less-invasive Therapies and Site of Care – e.g. interventional therapies,
minimally-invasive therapies, non-invasive therapies; robotics; moving from inpatient to
outpatient surgical procedures; examples could include innovations in interventional
treatments for structural heart diseases; neuromodulation innovations
●
Technology for Ambulatory and Home Settings – e.g. innovations to improve delivery
of ambulatory & home care; transitions of care from hospital to ambulatory or home
settings; patient-centered medical home; telemedicine and remote monitoring; reducing
hospital readmissions
