DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: June 12, 2015 Page 1 June 2015 MEEWASIN VALLEY AUTHORITY JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Fund Development Manager PURPOSE Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Fund Development Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the Meewasin fundraising and business development efforts. Fund development partners - Build professional relationships with major donors and fund development volunteers; be responsive to requests from donors and volunteers and promote an environment of public service. Work closely with other Meewasin departments and consultants as necessary (may be campaign, marketing, or communications consultants). Fund Development Plan - Lead the development of fund development plans and appeal execution. This will include large and small campaigns and programs with corporate and individual donors. Report to committees and the Board routinely on plans and results. The Fund Development Plan must be integrated and coordinated with all Meewasin activities and communications. Donor Recognition - Administer donor recognition programs, and particularly the delivery of recognition materials and events, and other special events related to Meewasin projects. Ensure that the promised recognition for each donor is recorded, tracked and provided. This includes routine correspondence, such as thank you letters, and other recognition elements, including proofing and ordering plaques, maintenance of gift register(s), and publicity. Organize and participate in donor presentations, proposals and follow-up. Implement the fund development plan, including research, preparing and making requests for participants and donations, organizing meetings with prospective participants and donors, organizing presentations to groups, participant and donor relations, and administration. Supervise fund development staff and activities, including performance management processes. Volunteer Coordination - Organize committee and subcommittee meetings for fund development volunteers as assigned, by confirming attendance, preparing and mailing agenda packages, distributing minutes, and managing follow-up. Work with others to recruit volunteers. Special Events for fund development - Organize special events, prepare concepts, plans and feasibility; including the coordination of dates, mailing lists and invitations, advertising, facility arrangements and refreshments, and donor recognition at the events. Communications Plan - Promote the Meewasin brand and lead fund development communications, including development of digital presentations, campaign materials, implementation of media strategies, and helping to keep upto-date communications with campaign volunteers and other Meewasin staff. 11. Public Relations and Media Relations - Handle public inquiries about fund development special events and appeals, making referrals to others as necessary. 12. Attendance at weekend and evening events and meetings is often required. 13. Responsible for fund development budgets and financial management. 14. Ensure that fund development activities are ethical and in accordance with the laws for Charities. Coordinate donor records and receipts, as necessary, with the Receptionist and the Donations Officer (Development Fund). 15. Keeping organized records and files of special event and campaign activities. 16. Reporting - Preparing reports on special events and fund development appeals and activities. 17. Donor Records - Coordinate information with other staff to ensure that the RAISERS EDGE data base is current for all donors and donations. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education A relevant degree in a related field, and/or equivalent training and experience. A recognized professional accreditation, such as CFRE would be considered an asset. Experience At least three year’s experience required in fundraising position with a registered charity, preferably in an equally complex organization. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or an alternate donor database system desirable. Experience in the management of staff and volunteers. Other Required Skills Organization skills and superior ability to deal with donors, volunteers and the general public. A working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, accounting, and donor database software applications is required. Demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for the Meewasin goals and objectives. Deal effectively with a broad range of individuals including corporate officials, volunteers, interest groups, and donors. Superior communication skills, efficient and well organized, ability to work with staff at all levels, including senior staff of other agencies and corporations. Page 3
