MENAI HERITAGE ‘THOMAS TELFORD’ AWAY DAY
TUESDAY 12 MAY 2015
Menai Heritage is pleased to offer, once again, this highly praised day trip,
which gives an insight into many of Thomas Telford’s engineering
achievements in North Wales and the Border country. Throughout the journey,
Bob Daimond, Chair of Menai Heritage and Chartered Civil Engineer will
provide the commentary.
We will stop for coffee in Chirk and a hot lunch at the excellent Boathouse
Restaurant by the lake in Ellesmere and return to Angelsey by 1800hrs.
We will be travelling with Gwynfor Coaches and the cost is £27.50 which
covers travel, lunch and a tip for the driver. (Morning coffee is NOT included).
PROVISIONAL TIMETABLE
0830 Board coach at Pringles overflow carpark, Llanfairpwll OR 0845 Park and
Ride, Britannia Bridge OR 0900 One Stop Llandygai
Travel along Telford’s Holyhead Road through Snowdonia.
1045 Arrive at Caffi Wylfa, Chirk – a chance to walk onto the aqueduct and
into the canal tunnel and purchase refreshments at Caffi Wylfa
1200 Travel to Ellesmere - Lunch at Boathouse Restaurant, Ellesmere with
information centre; choose lunch from MENU overleaf
1345 Walk along Ellesmere Canal and view Telford’s canal workshops etc
1500 Pontcysyllte
1600 Return journey via A55 – viewing Telford’s original Suspension Bridge
and Stephenson’s original Tubular Bridge in Conwy.
1800 Return to car parks
