Dear Grade 10 students,
Please read these instructions very carefully.
When making choices you should consider:
 your areas of interest and what you are good at
 what would you like to study at university
 university prerequisites (see note below)
 advice from your teachers and others who know you well
Selection Guidelines
Every student chooses six IB subjects. You must choose 1 subject from each block.
You can choose 3 subjects at HL, and 3 subjects at SL.
The main difference is that HL subjects cover more content, are taught for more hours
(HL: 5 hours/week – SL: 3 hours/week) and have tougher grading criteria. As HL subjects
you should choose subjects you enjoy, subjects you are good at and/or subjects you may
need for university (eg if you want to study medicine you should take Bio HL etc.).
In addition, all students take Theory of Knowledge as an additional subject.
German Universities: “KMK IB”
If you wish to be able to study in Germany, there are some additional requirements – see
the notes in each block. Please indicate whether you are planning to study in Germany or
wish to keep that option open. Note that your IB Diploma will not be recognized in
Germany if you do not meet the additional requirements.

Notes
Language A is for native speakers or speakers with high fluency. Most
of our students take ENG & GER A. In this case, you must choose one
LIT course and one LANG & LIT course. Most students choose LIT in
their stronger language.
Language B is for students who have studied a language for 2-3 years
(B SL) or 4-5 years (B HL).
Language ab initio (SL only) is for beginners or those with very little
experience of a language.
KMK IB: You cannot choose Language ab initio or Language B SL in
either Block 1 or 2.
