Enter the fairytale world of the beautiful Princess Aurora as she is cursed by the evil Carabosse and then magically
awakened by Prince Désiré in Poughkeepsie City Ballet’s production of The Sleeping Beauty. This
beautifully costumed storybook classic, staged by Artistic Director Susan Olson Santoro, will
delight young and old alike. Tchaikovsky’s complex score and Petipa’s choreography
represent the highest achievement of Russian classical art. It symbolizes the harmony and
magic of classical dance.
The roles of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré will
be danced by guest artists Lauren Fadeley and
Francis Veyette principal dancers with the
Pennsylvania Ballet. “Fadeley is a classic Balanchine
ballerina, with legs for miles, whiplash speed, endless
stamina and expansive amplitude. Her balances in the Act III
pas de deux never wavered, and after completing a blizzard of piqué and fouetté
turns, she looked like she had plenty more left in the tank. She’s also a delightful
comedic actress.” OTTAWA CITIZEN
Students from New York Academy of Ballet round out the cast as mystical fairies
and beloved storybook characters. Juan Cardona, Jr. performs on the Majestic
Bardavon Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ with a pre and post-performance concert.
