RACE FOR BREAKTHROUGHS 19TH RACE FOR THE CURE ARCADIA CREEK FESTIVAL PLACE SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2015 Susan G. Komen® Southwest Michigan has invested over $2 million to fight breast cancer right here in our community. Komen funds lifesaving breast cancer education, screenings and support services in Southwest Michigan. No other nonprofit is more committed to the community. But we need your help to keep it going…Let’s Race for the Cure®! www.komenswmichigan.org We Are Susan G. Komen® FULFILLING THE PROMISE In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we’ve invested more than $2.5 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 30 countries. And we won’t stop until our promise is fulfilled. PROGRESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER Since 1982, we’ve contributed to many of the advances made in the fight against breast cancer. We’ve transformed how the world treats and talks about this disease and have helped turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. We are proud of our contribution to some very real victories: • More early detection and effective treatment. Currently, about 70 percent of women 40 and older receive regular mammograms, the single most effective screening tool to find breast cancer early. Since 1990, early detection and effective treatment have resulted in a 34 percent decline in breast cancer mortality in the U.S. • More hope. In 1980, the five-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer was about 74 percent. Today, it’s 99 percent. • More research. The federal government now devotes more than $850 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention, compared to $30 million in 1982. • More survivors. Today, there are more than 3 million breast cancers survivors in the U.S. LOCAL IMPACT Our objective is to support our mission of saving lives and ending breast cancer through education, screening and research. CAUSE MARKETING MATTERS A 2008 Cone/Duke University Behavioral Cause Study revealed that American consumers continue to have high philanthropic expectations for companies even amid the current economic crisis. • 79% of respondents said they would likely switch from one brand to another, when price and quality are about equal, if another brand is associated with a good cause. • When replicating the study online, results revealed that participants spent nearly twice as long reviewing cause-related ads versus general corporate advertisements resulting in a 19% sales lift. Consumers have an interest in corporate responsibility and they act on it. • “This is clearly great news for brand managers, as every percentage increase can translate to millions of dollars in revenue” – Gavin Fitzsimons, lead researcher for study BENEFITS OF INVOLVEMENT Based on your level of sponsorship, your company may: • Receive high visibility before the event and on Race day • Reach an audience of thousands of people in one day • Test-market and showcase products on event deck • Build employee morale and company pride • Retain and increase customer loyalty • Align yourself with a premier fundraising event in your community Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since its inception in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a global series of more than 150 Races with 1.6 million people participating on four continents. The Komen Race for the Cure is a unique event, designed and implemented to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer. It has proved to be an enormously effective way to reach many women and men with the message that breast cancer is not necessarily fatal if mammography and breast self-awareness become routine. As well as being a road race for runners, the Komen Race for the Cure is an emotionally charged event that attracts many first timers and recreational runners. It is an opportunity for thousands of women, men and their families, running or walking, to spread the breast cancer message within their communities. 2014 SW MICHIGAN PARTICIPANT DEMOGRAPHICS 77% 126 22% Breast Cancer SURVIVORS Local Sponsorship Opportunities Presenting $15,000 Platinum $10,000 Diamond $7,500 Gold $5,000 Silver $2,500 COMPANY VISIBILITY Logo on Race Bibs • Logo on Postcards & Posters • Logo in Save the Date Mailing to Affiliate Database • Recognized as Presenting Sponsor on Website • Recognition in Pre-Race TV, Radio and Billboard Advertisements • • Recognition in Race Press Releases • • • Right to Use Race Logo (with prior approval) • • • • Logo on Informational Flyers • • • • Recognition in Affiliate eNewsletters Logo Logo Logo Logo Name Logo/Name on Affiliate Website Logo Logo Logo Logo Name Logo/Name on Race T-Shirts Logo Logo Logo Logo Name Logo/Name in Newspaper Thank-You Ad Logo Logo Logo Logo Name RACE DAY BENEFITS Invited to Speak at Stage for Welcome and/or Thank-You • Banner Displayed on Stage • Premier Placement of Tent Space in Sponsor Village • • Product Sampling (if relevant) • • • • Tent Space in Sponsor Village • • • • Banner Displayed Onsite • • • • Name/Logo Displayed on All Sponsor Thank-You Signage Logo Logo Logo Logo Name Recognition on Stage During Opening/Closing Ceremony • • • • • Sign on by December 5, 2014 to ensure that your logo/name appears on print materials and by February 1, 2015 for inclusion on Race t-shirts.
