M ay 2 0 1 5 N ew s l e t t e r Dear Residents, Families, and Staff: April showers bring May flowers – it’s nice to see the trees and flowers starting to blossom! May is also a good month for remembrances and celebrations. Please check the calendar for all the events and activities for the month. Here are some in particular that we will celebrate: Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10th and I would like to wish all our Mothers, Grandmothers, Great-Grandmothers, and Great-Great Grandmothers a very Happy Mother’s Day. Enjoy the Mother’s Day Tea! National Nursing Home Week is May 10-16 and we will have week-long activities and celebrations for residents and staff. This week is dedicated to recognizing the amazing people who live and work in long term care! Memorial Day is observed on May 25th to remember and honor those who died while serving our country. I hope we have a beautiful day to view the Memorial Day parade. Sincerely, Mark Eubank Administrator Happy May everyone! This month is going to be a very busy time filled with lots of celebrations. From Mother’s Day to Nursing home week and ending the month with Memorial Day. It should be a great time for all!!! With Mother’s day coming up I’m sure our moms will be receiving many special gifts. These gift may include clothing items. KDH would like to remind families to have all clothing articles marked to assist in ensuring that these items are re-turned to the resident after laundering. Please take all new or unmarked clothing to the receptionist so it can be properly labeled with your loved one’s name. If the Receptionist is not available, please give the clothing to the charge nurse. Please remind all family members of this process. We would also like to remind our residents that no medications should be taken without Kings Daughters Home’s knowledge. This includes over the counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements. All medications must have a physician’s order before nursing staff is able to administer the medication. This is not only for your protection but is a requirement of our facility. If you have any question as to whether something is considered a medication and requires a prescription please check with your nurse. We wish you all a wonderful May and a very blessed Mother’s Day to all of our special Mom’s!!! The most widely accepted explanation is that it was named for Maia, the Roman goddess of spring and growth. Her name related to a Latin word that means increase or growth. Birth Flower: Lily of the Valley Birth Stone: Emerald Zodiac Signs: Taurus April 21-May 21 Gemini May 22-June 21 May's birth flower is the lily of the valley. The lily of the valley is associated with humility, chastity, sweetness and purity. As the birthstone for May, the emerald, a symbol of rebirth, is believed to grant the owner foresight, good fortune, and youth. It was mined in Egypt as early as 330 B.C.
