Copper Plate Rubbings
The students placed a piece of copper over either a flower or leaf
rubbing plate. A wooden rolling tool was used to form the design.
Then glass/metal craft paint was brushed over the flower or leaf and
the background. Finally steel wool was used to soften the color and
create the texture of the finished work.

Nature Prints
In science classes the students studied simple machines, so for this project
they used a brayer, which is an example of a wheel and axle. First the round
paper was painted with water colors. Then the students applied ink to the
surface of rubber stamps using the brayer. Finally they placed the paper on
the stamps and pressed it with the palm of their hand to make the
beautiful nature prints.

Inspired by Paul Klee’s “Cat and Bird”

Paul Klee painted the oil and ink on
canvas, Cat and Bird in 1928. It is an
animal painting in the Expressionism
style. The cat appears to be “all
head,” and the bird, on cat’s forehead,
is symbolic of what the cat is thinking.
Flying in the cat’s mind, the bird is a
“secret” made visible to others. The
cat’s red nose is tipped with a heart,
symbolizing his “heart’s desire.”

POP ART
Pop Art is a type of art based on popular culture in society. The word “pop” stands for
the word popular because the subjects in Pop Art are popular, common objects of the
current time. Pop Art usually features very bright colors. The students created their
very own Pop Art using crayon shapes and vibrant crayon colors.

Prom 2015- All that Glitters
Everyone sparkled on Friday, May 8, when family and friends gathered outside of Soriano’s in
Bridgewater for pre-prom photos. The ballroom was filled with gold and glitter as students danced to
their favorite tunes, provided by DJ Jean Marie. Thanks again Ms. Storm for planning and organizing
another wonderful night!
Midland Run
The 2015 Midland Run was a huge success. It was a great day and the weather was just perfect! The
athletes enjoyed the challenge and the spectators were enthusiastic observers and participants in the
morning’s activities. Two heats took place. Trophies went to the top 3 boys and the top 3 girls.
This year’s ninth annual school wide Sponsored Fitness Walk was also very successful. Thanks to the
generous contributions from family members, friends and Midland staff, we were able to collect $1,171.
This money will go directly into the Parents’ Association account to support our social recreational
programs.

The drama club performed their version of

Dad and Me Evening 2015
It “shore” was a special evening! About 120 Dads and kids
enjoyed a picnic of some Jersey favorites. Then they participated in
games and activities that were inspired by our theme. There was the
“Hop the Counties” game as well as a sand art project. Everyone’s
knowledge of New Jersey facts and trivia was tested during PICTO.
Finally, we cooled off with Italian ice pops before heading home.
