To earn the Qualified Courser certificate, a hound at least 12 months of
age
(Qualifying Hound) running with another hound of the same breed, or
another hound with a similar running style, shall receive certification
from a licensed AKC coursing judge. The hound must complete the
course (of at least 600 yards), with enthusiasm and without interruption,
sufficiently course the lure and not course the Testing Hound. The
judge will certify, by signing the certificate that the Qualifying Hound ran
cleanly and did not appear to present a hazard to the Testing Hound at
any point in the qualifying course. This signed certificate is given to the
handler, and must be submitted with the entry at the hound’s first trial.
This certificate is good for one year.
TRIAL STAKES OFFERED
OPEN STAKE: First time entered hounds must have a Qualified Courser
certificate, which must be submitted with entry form. This requirement is waived
for hounds who are ASFA or CKC Field Champions. Copy of this title must be
submitted with entry form at the hound’s first trial. Championship points from
the Open Stake will only count towards a Field Championship.
AKC field champions cannot enter the Open Stake.
VETERAN STAKE Open only to hounds that are eligible to enter either Open
or Special Stake, and are of Veteran age as determined by their Parent Breed
Club (6 years of age; except 5 years for Irish Woflhounds and 7 years for
Afghan Hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Salukis, and Whippets).
Championship or LCX points may be awarded from this stake.
SPECIALS STAKE: Open to all AKC Field Champions. Championship points
from the Specials Stake will only count towards a Lure Courser Excellent title.
SINGLES STAKE: Open to all hounds of eligible breed, including those that are
otherwise disqualified from entering the regular stakes (Open, Specials, and
Veteran). Hounds entered in the Singles Stake may not also enter a regular
stake at the same event. NO championship or LCX points are awarded from
this stake.
BEST IN FIELD will be offered both days. The BOB Italian Greyhound cannot
compete for BIF. The FSS breeds are not eligible to compete for Best In Field.
Hounds who are disqualified from AKC, ASFA or CKC Field Trials may only
enter Singles. All hounds entered in the trial will run twice, in trios if possible or
braces, unless excused or disqualified. Stakes will be split whenever the entry
is sufficient to award two or more five point majors. The winner of the Field
Champion stake and the winner of the Open stake and the winner of the
Veteran stake will compete for Best of Breed. No extra points for Best of Breed
by forfeit.
