Geometry Unit Project Essential Question – How have humans used Geometry to create? (AOI: Human Ingenuity) Part 1: Master – remember and describe Find a piece or pieces of artwork with a variety of polygons, and angles. Calculate the area of the polygons, area and circumference of the circles, and justify the triangles included in the picture are unique. Respond to the questions: How the artist(s) used the Geometry to create the artwork? And how does knowing these measurements affect the artwork? What if the measurements had been different, how would the artwork change? Part 3: Understanding – reason and explain Informally prove the relationship between area and circumference of a circle. Create a RAFT from the viewpoint of another person who discovered this relationship. Part 2: Interpersonal – explore feelings and relate personally Enlarge a picture of a building that means something to you personally. It can be local or elsewhere. Measure the lengths of important features in your picture, so you can accurately make a scale drawing. You will need to find areas of surfaces of your scale drawing and relate them to the actual building. Self-Expressive – imagine or create You be the artist! Create a birdhouse with the 3D prisms and 2D shapes incorporated. Calculate the volume and surface areas of the major 3D shapes. Use tools to accurately create the 2D shapes.
