The GREAT Summer Youth Academy
The Grass Valley Police Department has invited qualifying Grass Valley
Charter students to apply for this year’s summer day-camp called the
GREAT Summer Youth Academy. Many GVCS students have attended
over the past six years and have positively benefited from this incredible
summer opportunity. The camp is taught by Officer Zack LaFerriere
who will inspire and empower your child with life skills to become a
successful, community-minded youth leader. If you are looking to build
your child’s self-confidence and develop their leadership skills, then this
camp is for you. Students will take part in fun fieldtrips, activities, daily
lessons, games and so much more. If you’d like more information about
this opportunity, or you’d like to submit an application, please
visit www.GreatSummerYouthAcademy.com. Remember, the camp fills
up fast so please submit your application before Friday May 8th 2015.

Outdoor Learning Center
Have you checked out what’s “growing”
next to the garden? It’s pretty amazing.
We are constructing an amazing outdoor
learning center with a pond, fountain,
erosion
tables,
gems and
minerals
wall, and
TONS of other attributes. It’s truly
amazing. We’re definitely still in the
construction phase but it’s well
underway. Check it out sometime, it’s
pretty rad.
You Say You Want a Revolution
Last week the 5th grade classes sported their colonial costumes and
celebrated Living
History Day. Students
participated in several
stations building their
expertise on all things
Revolutionary War.
Students made clay
pots, learned flint and
steel fire making
techniques, practiced marching formations, and
learned quilling. Additionally, students learned
from colonial time and revolutionary war
experts.
In the Garden
A note from Katie Merrill
This week in the garden: spring snow, kindergarteners harvesting and
snacking on carrots, germination lessons, sprouting wild flowers, and of

progress! Teachers and students are excited and are day dreaming
about the wonderful learning that will take place in that space. You can
follow a long and get day to day updates by following the OLC
