SUBJECT:
2015/16 State Event Calendar
Following the Bowls SA State Consultative Body Meeting held on Monday 20 April, the calendar
for the 2015-2016 season was adopted. Listed below are the significant changes from last
season.
Prestige Medley – Schroeter/Kennedy/Rogers Shields
Following a directive by the Board the Country vs City competitions (Schroeter/Kennedy/Rogers
Shields) will not be run by Bowls SA in 2015-16.
The Prestige Medley will be held in December with the Men’s and Women’s events held at the
same time, at nearby venues.
The decision to hold the Prestige Medleys at an earlier time will enable it to become a part of
the Elite Pathway, with selectors able to view players at this event and take into account for
State Selection.
Saturday Pennants
Two catch-up days have been allocated to Metropolitan Divisions to cover games lost to
inclement weather. These are Saturday December 12 (coinciding with the Prestige Medley)
and March 12 (Premier and Major League semi-final day). Matches may be rescheduled if any
club has Metro players selected in the Prestige Medley side.
Premier and Major League Semi finals and Preliminary finals will be played on the same
weekend (Sat 12th & Sun 13th March) with the Grand Finals as standalone events on Saturday
19th of March. This will allow a greater build-up to the Grand Finals.
A Premier match of the round will be scheduled to be played on Friday nights. Each Premier
team will play in two matches, one home, one away with ten matches in total scheduled
throughout the season. The dates for these matches will not be determined until the draw for
the season is completed.
Thursday Pennants
Several Tuesday matches have been programmed - Round 15 (Feb 15th) to avoid the SA vs
Victoria series, Semi finals (March 15th) and Grand finals (March 22nd) to avoid Easter Thursday.
State Events
Following a review of State events and taking into account results from the Bowls SA Survey, the
Open Singles and Under 25 Singles will not be held in 2015-16.
State Event Entries
Regions are reminded that the recommendation from the previous season regarding the
playing dates of Country events, to match those as designated on the calendar, is still
preferred. Regions are reminded that if an alternative date for State Event Qualifying is
preferred, it is important that the date chosen does not clash with another Bowls SA State Event.
Regions are also asked to advise Bowls SA of their playing dates, if different to the dates
allocated on the Bowls SA Events Calendar.
In the interest of ensuring members have the opportunity to play in as many events as they wish,
Regions are asked to advise Bowls SA via the Operations Manager, Erin Haines, if their entries for
any event are not sufficient and they are not holding qualifying rounds for an event in their
region prior to the closing dates in the Metropolitan area.
If your region does not have sufficient entries, it is also asked that Bowls SA be advised of any
entrants from your region wishing to enter the Metropolitan Draw, by the Metropolitan Closing
Dates. These dates are attached for your information.
This notification to Bowls SA will ensure that if your region does not have sufficient entries, the
entrants from your region will still have the opportunity to compete in the event, and your
allocated qualifying spot can be re-allocated, thereby minimising byes at Champions Week.
Bowls SA State Champion of Champions
Member Clubs are reminded to be aware of the closing dates for these events and ensure that
their club tournaments are completed by these dates to enable winners the opportunity to
participate. As per the 2014-15 season, to qualify for the State Champion of Champions event,
club champions wishing to compete will need to enter the open qualifying draw to be held in
the Metropolitan area. The finals of the Champion of Champions Singles and Pairs will be held
during the Bowls SA Champions Week.
Regions are asked to submit their qualifiers for Champions Week events before Tuesday 29
March 2016.
