BOOKMAKING WORKSHOP

A Workshop for 3-12 Teachers
and Assistants
Alison Awes – Director of Elementary Training at the Montessori Center
of Minnesota, Assoziation Montessori Schweiz
Please join us for many hands-on activities to enhance artistic
expression in your classroom with children or help you make
materials for your primary or elementary environment. Included in
the day’s activities will be instruction on making accordion books,
necklace books, and hinged books.
Required items to bring: Each participant should bring scissors,
glue stick and a straight edge or ruler. You will be making books
to take home!
Optional items to bring: bone folder, books children have made
in your classroom that you would like to share, embellishments
or collage materials that you would like to use to decorate your
books, any special poem or quote that you would like to include
in a book.
Registrations will close two weeks before the workshop due to the
time needed for preparation of materials for this workshop.

ALISON AWES is the Director of Elementary Training at the
Montessori Center of Minnesota, Assoziation Montessori Schweiz, and
the Co-Director of Elementary Training at the Maria Montessori Institute,
London. Ms Awes holds AMI diplomas for Primary and Elementary
levels, a B.A. in Art History from Smith College, a M.A. in Latin
American Studies from Tulane University, and a M.Ed. in Montessori
Education from Loyola University in Maryland. She has taught in both
six-to-nine and nine-to-twelve classrooms. Ms Awes is an AMI examiner
and consultant and has served on the boards of private and charter
Montessori schools, as well as other organisations including the AMI
Elementary Alumni Association. An international lecturer, she has given
numerous workshops on a wide variety of topics. Ms Awes attended
Montessori school until the age of twelve.
