2015 Montessori Events The Montessori Australia Foundation’s event program for 2015 is designed to meet the needs of Montessori educators, carers and parents supporting human development at every stage of life, as well as Montessori school principals, business managers and administrators, and Montessori centre owners, managers and operators. Our program reflects the feedback and suggestions from past participants and MAF subscribers and incorporates an impressive range of topics and presenters. We invite you and your learning community to support this significant Montessori professional development initiative. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION WORKSHOP February-March 2015, Capital Cities The theme of this year’s ECEC workshop is NQS, EYLF and Montessori – Putting it all together, and it will visit each capital city. Christine Harrison, Barbara Langford and Montessori 0-3 educators local to each State will guide you through an exploration of topics such as Assessment and Ratings, Montessori and best practice ECEC, and Montessori for babies and toddlers. WRITTEN LANGUAGE: THE PREPARATION, PROCESS AND PRODUCT – MS J MCKEEVER March 2015, Canberra, Sydney and Perth In this day-and-a-half workshop we will explore some of the elements of good written work in the 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 classrooms. We want to guide our students in technical and creative expression – to help them to produce work that is pleasing to the mind and pleasing to the eye. Ms J. McKeever is the Director of Elementary Training at Montessori Institute of Atlanta, and former Co-Director at Montessori Institute of Milwaukee, and has spent almost twenty years in Montessori Primary classrooms. SUPPORTING THE DYSLEXIC CHILD IN MONTESSORI – ALISON AWES May 2015, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth This workshop will cover characteristics of dyslexia, recommendations of leading authorities, and how to support the dyslexic child in a Children’s House and then through Cosmic Education. BOOKMAKING – ALISON AWES 24 May 2015, Sydney This workshop will focus upon many hands-on activities to enhance artistic expression in your classroom with children or help you make materials for your primary or elementary environment. Included in the day’s activities will be instruction on making accordion books, necklace books, and hinged books. Alison Awes is the director of elementary training at the Montessori Training Center of Minnesota and has taught in both 6-9 and 9-12 classrooms. Alison is also an AMI examiner. MATHS IS AS EASY AS 1, 2, 3! – AMY KIRKHAM August and September 2015, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide Amy Kirkham invites you to discover how the mathematical mind is supported in the 3-6 prepared environment. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CONFERENCE 20-22 March 2015, Adelaide This year’s ECEC Conference theme is Sense and Sensitivities. The conference will incorporate an exploration of the importance of the senses in the development of young children, and offer opportunities to explore our own five senses. Other activities for attendees will include yoga on the beach, massage, a visit to the food markets with a nutritionist and, of course, wine and cheese tasting. WHOLE SCHOOL REFRESHER 5-6 June 2015, Sydney At this year’s Whole School Refresher, we will be joined by a team of outstanding Montessorians from around the world. As well as the in-depth focus offered by workshops for each age level (0-3, 3-6, 6-12, Adolescent), the conference will open with a plenary session. With a focus upon the Montessori approach to the Cultural Enrichment of Language, each presenter will give a short keynote address, creating an overview of the topic from birth to age 18. Presenters include Sharlyn Smith (0-3), Madlena Ulrich (3-6), Carla Foster (6-12) and David Kahn (12-18). BUSINESS MANAGERS FORUM 9 September 2015, Sydney The Business Managers Forum will feature four guest speakers covering a range of topics relevant to financial management, leadership and emerging issues for Montessori Independent Schools Australia. The forum is suited to principals, business managers, administrative staff and board members. MONTESSORI AGED SUPPORT SERVICES CONFERENCE 10-11 November 2015, Sydney The theme of the 2015 Montessori Aged Support Conference is, “We are Talking About a Revolution!” Montessori methods are changing the face of aged and dementia care. Montessori is now taking a stand as one of the proven models that delivers true personcentred care. INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI ADMINISTRATORS RETREAT 22-24 July 2015, Honolulu The 2015 Heads of Schools Retreat is being offered in partnership with the Montessori Administrators Association. With a focus upon the global challenges of leadership, this retreat will provide a unique opportunity to network and learn from Montessori school leaders from the United States, Australia and around the world.
