AGM
We are really looking forward to having a wonderful relaxing break, starting
Friday, as this week has been long with numerous late nights for the staff.
Many of you will be up and around the school over the holidays which we love
as it helps keep our school safe. If you are coming to the school grounds, I am
just letting you know that there will be a certain amount of activity happening.
Externally, we will be having our playground court lines re-marked and some
new games (e.g. Snakes and Ladders) painted on.
Internally, the entrance to the school will also be painted as it is looking very
drab and dreary and hasn’t been painted since 2000. And the air conditioner
for the gym will be installed. Equipment wise, we will be purchasing the rest
of the LFD’s (Large Format Display) which we are using instead of interactive
whiteboards.
Finally, CAMP Australia will be running their Holiday program in the
gymnasium; so lots of movement and lots of people.

Ensemble Band and Violin
For the last two years, the school has conducted an Ensemble Band. The
students in the band are usually those students who are learning music from
our Instrumental Music teachers. This year, we again intend to run it and so
students in Erin Kersing’s flute group, Melanie Simpson’s strings and brass
students, and Maddie Sutherland’s clarinet group will have an opportunity to
play in the school Ensemble Band if they so wish. There will be no costs
associated with the band and we will provide a teacher-Gareth Voight.
It is also likely (it is just in the planning stage at the moment) that we will be
offering a violin group. Tim Veldman (Jeremy and Annalies) teaches music and
is in the MSO, and is keen to start a violin group at school. However as you
would expect, time is an issue for him and so we are working through logistics
with him and Gareth before we start.
Update on Liam Hall
We haven’t given an update on Liam for a while so I thought it would be a nice
way to finish off the term. Liam is now sitting up and able to feed. He is
undergoing intensive rehabilitation and is working hard throughout the day in
therapy sessions. The good news is that he is improving and we are thrilled
for him and Christine, Daniel, Brodie and the rest of their family.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS
Reminder: Annual General Meeting of
School Council April 21
ALL parents of our school community are invited to the Annual General
Meeting on Tuesday April 21 at 7:15 pm.
This is where the Annual Report will be shared with parents. The
evening will consist of the presentation of our Annual Report which discusses
our student achievement data, opinion data, attendance data as well as the
School Council committee reports. This is a celebration of how well we are
achieving and how our hard working School Council committee contributions
support the students at MSPS. Please come along for an hour and support
the School Councillors who contribute so much for our school community.
AGM – 7.15 pm in School Library – Tuesday April 21
MSPS Achievers
Congratulations to all the MSPS teaching staff for the magnificent job
they have done this week with Reporting Conferences. They have
worked long hours for most nights and we really appreciate the efforts
they have devoted to making sure parents are up to date with all the
information about their child.
Congratulations to Tara De Bondi for all her superb work in organising the
‘Welcome to Country’ by Ian Hunter today. The students were so excited
about the ceremony and to hear their cries of wonder when Ian made fire was
one of those “Ah’ moments. Additionally, well done to our Performing Arts
Captains, Rosie Twyman and Edie Nicolson for the confident manner in which
they introduced Ian and thanked him. They were excellent role models.
Great effort by our Chess students this term. The medal winners for each
group were as follows:
Juniors:
GOLD Oliver Plunkett-Zbaracki
Silver Sophie Peters
Bronze Linus Shaw
Best Birthday Wishes to
all of the above

Special Mention to Max De

Bronze Nicholas Zandegu
Well done to our entire finalists in the various basketball competitions –particularly the Eltham
Wildcats groups. We also have to congratulate Sadie Cotterill and Tayla Hartwig for their
awards as the “Most Determined’ and ‘Best Team Player’ respectively.
The teams and players in the winning teams were as follows:

Tayla Hartwig, Tyler Kennard, and Nicholas Zandegu.
Finally we would like to announce our first Powerful Owl award winners for the year, Charlie Mitchell and Zack Khan in 1W.
Both boys have always shown an enthusiasm for learning and try hard to do their very best at school. They are willing to help
others and are known for their friendliness. Whatever the task, be it paper pick up, working in the classroom, out in the yard at
lunch and recess, you can always rely on Charlie and Zack to cooperate and demonstrate our Monty South TRIBES values. Well
done to both boys –you make us proud.
Wishing you all a safe and relaxing holiday. We look forward to seeing you back, rested and ready for term 2 on Monday 13
April.
What’s even better the footy season will have begun. Yay!

UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
As reported previously in the newsletter, School Council has decided to outsource the Uniform
Shop to our current supplier of uniforms, RHSports.
The good news is that some things will stay the same and some things will be added to our
current service.
The Uniform Shops hours will stay the same:
THURSDAYS 8:45-9:30 in the same location.
If you leave the order at school, it will still be processed and delivered to your child’s
classroom.
Things that will change slightly:
•
You can still leave orders at school, there will be a locked box near the uniform
cupboards to place your order in. It will be checked regularly.
•
You will be able to pay by Cash, Cheque or Eftpos at the uniform shop on Thursday
mornings.
•
RHSports does have an online ordering service. Orders can be placed online and
delivered to your home for a $10 flat rate for orders under $100. Orders over $100 will
be delivered for free. Orders can also be delivered to school for free and disbursed to
your child’s classroom.
This service will start the first week back of next term on Thursday 16th
April.
YEAR 2 Classroom Clippings
It has been another busy week is Grade 2. We have enjoyed meeting each family to
discuss your child’s achievements in Term 1 and goals for Term 2. This week we have
been investigating books by Mem Fox. Through related activities we have been
writing blurbs, making story maps and discussing what symbols make Australia unique.
Here are some work samples from the amazing students of 2C lead by their teacher
Terrific Tracey.
“The little girl was as shy as a mouse and as quiet as grass growing on a small hill.” –
Ruby
“Steve was being very obnoxious. Steve was using all of his knowledge’. – James
We hope you have a restful Easter and enjoy time with your family and friends.
Grade 2 teachers.
YEAR 4 Classroom Clippings
Garden
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been doing garden. We have been
talking about where foods come from. Not all foods come from Australia. We
have also been sowing seeds, planting, weeding and watering the garden beds.
For the past three weeks, the Year 4s have been on chicken duty.
Kitchen
The 3s, 4s, 5s and 6s have started kitchen. We have been using fruits and
vegetables from the garden. In kitchen, we have been learning about foods
from other countries, such as Italian foods, traditional Australian and Bush
Tucker. We also had to discover where the food comes from and how far
away from Melbourne it originated. For example, Hot Smoked Paprika comes
from Spain- 6983.58kms away!

great job! Thanks also to Tony from Brumby’s Montmorency for supplying the hot cross buns.

Finally, a huge thank you to Michelle Motschall for coordinating our weekly Icy Pole Stall. Icy poles
