A festival of ceremony and celebration. The inaugural Festival of Baiame’s Ngunnhu in Brewarrina, NSW will promote Aboriginal-led social inclusion, artistic, civic and economic participation and a greater voice for the Aboriginal people of the region. A multi-art site-specific community performance spectacular celebrating the many inspirational stories and experiences of the local Aboriginal young people, community members and elders of the Ngemba, Baranbinja, Morowari, Kula, Naualko, Ualarai, Weilwan, Kamilaroi, Kamu and Paarkinlji communities. A three year community cultural development arts project the Festival of Baiame’s Ngunnhu is a multi-artform site specific performance promenade along the banks of the Barwon River, incorporating puppetry, circus, dance (contemporary and traditional), installation waste 2 art and film screenings. Ms Shearer says, “This feast also highlights community awareness to reignite cultural memory”, as she points to her heart, it’s about the importance of the natural landscape, about the health of the river and riparian habitat. It will also enhance cultural awareness knowledge of both event participants and those that are made aware of the event through regional, state and Australia wide media. Led by local Aboriginal organisations, produced by Moogahlin Performing Arts Creative Producer Lily Shearer, and facilitated by key artists Cheryl (Dinty) Crawford, Aunty Chris Burke, Tim Bishop and Kate Reid.
