TESTme is a free and confidential service of the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC) that offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People living in Victoria an opportunity to test themselves for Chlamydia infection. To use the service you can call 1800 739 836 and speak to a sexual health nurse or visit the TESTme website www.testme.org.au – users will need to identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. If you call the nurse will take a brief sexual health history and provide Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) testing recommendations. If you visit the website you will be required to answer a few questions about your sexual health history. Chlamydia swabs are sent in the mail to you with instructions on how to self-collect your own swab. You then mail the swab in the return pack into any Australia Post box in the provided prepaid envelope. If your swab returns a positive result a nurse from the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC) will contact you to talk about the treatment and contact tracing (telling your partner/s) If you require chlamydia treatment, this can be posted to you free of charge. If blood tests are recommended from your consultation with the nurse or online information will be given to you about how to access them. MSHC will do their best to assist you with referral to external services in your local area. The test me service is unable to test anyone who has symptoms of an STI.
