THE COG - RCM Meeting 1524 Bulletin 25 March 2015
President’s News
President’s Corner – David Lloyd
My apologies for not being available to attend last week’s meeting, I had so many dying to meet me!
Many thanks to Peter for filling in for me at such short notice, much appreciated Peter. By all reports
the meeting was short on members attending.
Members must note that a club assembly is an important part of a Rotary clubs life, and should be a
well-attended event. Those who did not attend missed out on a great “Who Am I” presentation from
Sue Pullens, so sorry I was not there to hear you Sue.
This week we have a new member being inducted in Paramjit Budwal. Paramjit has attended a
number of our club events in the past and it is great that he has decided to become a Rotarian of our
club. I ask members to please make an effort to attend Wednesday night’s meeting and show our
support to Paramjit on his new Rotary life with The Rotary Club of Morialta.
We have received correspondence from Vanuatu through Norm re their desperate need of help. A list
of some requirements needed are listed in the COG. The club will need to assess the needs and the
possibility of assisting further than our container sponsorship with DIK.
Hopefully Norm can give further information to the club.
Please note the events that our club are committed to and please diarise your commitments.
Look forward to seeing you all at Wednesday Night meeting. Take care, David

District 9520 Info
BRIONY’S BLOG (DG Jerry Casburn’s wife)
From District Governor’s Newsletter, Wednesday, 4 March 2015
Hello Friends
This was going to be my speech for the International Women’s Day Breakfast on the 4th of March. I wanted to
tell non-Rotarians my interpretation of Rotary. But as it turns out, Julie from 9500 and myself have been let off
the hook. So rather than waste a good story, I would like to share it with you. So... :
Hello my name is Briony Casburn and I am a Rotarian and we have 51 clubs in our District. Our District 9520
starts from the salty air of Victor Harbour through the Southern Vales, up through the east of the city, Adelaide
Hills, travelling to the orchards, river boats of the Riverland, the vines and tourist area of Mildura and even over
the bridge to Victoria to visit Robinvale Euston. Moving up finally to the historic Broken hill where the Cattle kings
live. All of these places have dedicated people who work for their community locally and overseas.
My Club is the Rotary Club of Unley. I have friends who are not Rotarians but who are members of all sorts of
clubs. They maybe sporting clubs or others. I get to hear about the footy mostly and always Crows and Port
supporters are the loudest. I see they like to wear their clubs colours as we do. Our colours are blue and yellow
by the way. And when my friends go to their footy match they eat hot dog, pies, chips and drink beer, cheer on
their club. They work out who the best players are and who works well in the BEST positions so the team has
the BEST chance of success. A bit like our club really. They have a great time sharing this with their mates and
the whole afternoon is spent having fun.
Tuesday night is my Club night which I share with MY mates and we have a meal and most times guests
speakers on all sorts of interesting subjects. We share ideas on projects or other matters. We have fun and I am
home by 8.30pm. The footy clubs charge a fee to join and this helps to run the club, to make sure the Club is a
success. Rotary International is the same, but at around $4 a night I think I’m ahead. The footy clubs have
sponsors. So do we and with Bill Gates giving us $2 for every $1 we raise, to help eliminate Polio off the Planet,
I think HE thinks that Rotary is really worth backing. Footy clubs raise money to benefit the people who love the
game of footy and we Rotarians raise money to benefit the people who aren’t as lucky as we are. We want to
make the world a better place.
Each Rotary Club works together to raise money for their own club, or giving their time and labour to projects
locally or across the world. Each club is autonomous; clubs work on the programs and projects their members
choose. I joined Rotary because I wanted to work on overseas projects, my husband originally joined to meet
people other than those at work. Some have joined to network, to challenge themselves to grow as a person in a
non-competitive environment, there are lots of reasons people join Rotary, BUT we all stay for the same reason,
because we love it. I know a lot of my footy friends watch a number of games over the weekend, so how about
we get together and watch a match with them while sewing for Days for Girls, or making happy face biscuits for
Operation Cleft. How about putting together “Hands” for children who have none. There are plenty of wonderful
projects to do. This year’s theme is “Light up Rotary”, I say Light up Your lives, join us, and the world will be a
better place having you and Rotary in it.
ROTARY RACE DAY
Rotary International is excited and proud to announce our partnership with the South Australian Jockey Club in
the running of our Rotary Race Day.
Rotary is the world’s oldest and largest service organisation made up of over 1.2 million individuals in 215
countries who volunteer to do good in the world.
Rotary clubs bring together dedicated individuals to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action. Our
clubs also offer members opportunities to make new friends, and enjoy fun social activities.
Each Rotary club is supported by Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. Rotary International supports
Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs, campaigns, and initiatives benefitting communities
locally and internationally.
The Rotary Foundation is Rotary’s charitable arm which funds projects by Rotarians and our partners in
communities around the world. As a non-profit entity, all of the Foundation's funding comes from voluntary
contributions made by Rotarians and friends who share our vision of a better world.
With an expected public attendance of over 5000 people we invite you and your organisation to partner with
Rotary at the 2015 Derby Day celebrations
Closing date is 27 March 2015, but clubs that register earlier will be able to negotiate the best locations for their
displays.

NATIONAL ROTARY SUCCESS CONFERENCE AND YOUTH SUMMIT
Canberra September 2015
from Noel Trevaskis, Regional Coordinator Zone 8
Over the last two years Rotarians have been asking when we were we going to have another National Rotary
Success Conference. It is going to happen this September! I would urge you to register now for what I am sure
will be a great conference.
I would like to invite all Rotarians to the 2015 Rotary Success Conference and Youth Summit which will be held
at the Hellenic Club, Canberra on 5 – 6 September 2015. This conference is an affordable conference as the
price of $120 per person covers, morning teas, lunch, afternoon tea and the Saturday night dinner. It will
commence at 8.30am on the Saturday morning and conclude at 12.30pm on the Sunday.
All attendees will be able to have input into the conference breakout sessions over the weekend. It will be a
conference that everyone will get something out of.
Who should be attending? All Rotary Leaders, Presidents and Presidents Elect, PR Chairs, Membership Chairs
and Future Rotary Leaders and Rotarians who want to be involved in the continuing success of Rotary in
Australia. At this conference you will be able to participate in breakout sessions on various topics such as
Membership Retention, Membership Recruitment and Extension, Diversity in Rotary, Flexibility and Innovative
Clubs in the Future, Leadership, Public Image and Media, and more. As well, people will find out what has been
successful for some clubs in growing and getting stronger. Social media will also be explored with Rotary Public
Image Coordinator Wendy Gaborit leading the discussion. Wendy has a great grasp on social media and how it
can work for clubs and getting engaged with the local community.
There will be presentations about a number of new innovative ideas on a wide range of topics, all practical ideas
that you can use in your club.
The program will consist of mainly breakout groups enabling everyone to be able to participate and interact over
the weekend in a practical, worthwhile and meaningful way.
Coupled with the Rotary Success Conference this year will be a Youth Summit for people under 40 years of age.
The Youth Summit will be an opportunity for people to put forward ideas and practical thoughts on how Rotary
clubs can interact with younger people … how and why Rotary clubs need to become more involved with
Rotaract and Interact.
This Conference will be focusing on the future. We are positive that every Rotarian will gain practical knowledge
and new ideas to take back to their Clubs and Districts from this Conference. You will meet Rotarians from
across Australia and be able to share with them your ideas and hear their ideas; it will be a great experience for
everyone.
