Rotary Club of Brisbane High-Rise R.I. No. 29520 rotarybrisbanehighrise.com HOT AIR District 9600 Serving the Heart of Brisbane 22 January 2015 LINDSAY’S LINES A number of photos have been regularly flowing in from Tanzania of the touring group's visit of the new buildings at Mamba Primary School funded by our club and then on to another project our club supports, the School of St Jude, an amazing success story of an Aussie girl from country NSW. Pictures of the smiling faces of the children say a 1,000 words and all of them fantastic! The improvement in education in Somaliland, especially for maternal health and girls in general, will also be showcased during the visit to Edna Ismail's hospital next week. A small selection of the MANY photos are printed in this and recent editions of Hot Air in Tales from Africa. As I looked through these photos over the weekend, I was actually at Binna Burra for a couple of nights. With the last photo sent through one of the group about to head off on an African safari, I gazed down on to the natural wonders surrounding Binna Burra and reflected on the world class natural wonders we in SE Qld, let alone Australia, have on our own door steps. With Australia Day this weekend, amongst the barbies, backyard cricket games and catching up with mates, there will be several "new Australians" sworn in at numerous Citizenship ceremonies around the country. It is a reminder of the marvellous country we are privileged to live in and the wonderful people that, following the words of Peter Allen, call Australia home. Happy "Straya" Day! Sharing the love with Soccer balls Welcome from the school children Please can we keep them? Rotary team en route to Mt Kilamanjaro and Mamba school For those of you who missed last weeks meeting you will not realise that we were inundated with exchange students – Past, Present and Future. You also missed a very special sergeants session where ‘Barb’ got all dressed up for us …and our impromptu speaker – Brian from Wyoming. …and you also missed that in most editions of hot air there has been a secret Lindsay picture hiding amongst the photos. Eddies Epilogue I went for my first visit to daycare last week and had a blast. I might have even made a new friend! Please email contributions for Hot Air to [email protected]
