THE COG - RCM Meeting 1525 Bulletin 01 April 2015
President’s News
President’s Corner – David Lloyd
It was indeed a busy weekend for the club. Graeme and his team were very busy at Movies in the
Park on Friday evening and the CARA event on Sunday, Tim and his team at the District Assembly
and the Kiosk teams at Thorndon Park over the weekend.
Well done and thanks to all who assisted in the events.
Our guest speaker last week gave a very informative talk on terrorism, both in Australia and overseas.
Our guest speaker this week will be on District Insurance and various aspects of duty of care at Rotary
events.
Please remember it is very important for those on kiosk duty, to ensure the necessary electrical
appliances are turned off and the premises are secured when leaving. It appears that this has not
happened on a few occasions.
Due to a funeral that I have arranged for a fellow Rotarian’s daughter from the Rotary Club of Stirling
on Wednesday evening, I shall be an apology for our club meeting. I have asked Graeme Packer to
take my place for this meeting, Graeme being a KIWI may be a little depressed after the cricket result,
so PLEASE be GENTLE with him!
The list for the Afghan night is doing its rounds, so put your names down and don’t miss out.
Tim and Marian are in the process of planning a great changeover night, again make sure you put
your names down to attend.
Please check out the club protects in the COG and diarise your commitments to the events. The
jackpot is growing and waiting to be claimed, close to $300.00!
Thanks again to every one for what you’re doing for our club.
It is noted and greatly appreciated.

MORIALTA MEMBERS AT DISTRICT ASSEMBLY – SUN 29 MARCH
This is why we need women in
Rotary…..
Page 2
District Assembly (cont)
Four Morialta members attended the annual District Training Assembly (9520) this year in Murray
Bridge.
Di Potter, Judi Brown, Geoff Brown and Tim Mee (see photo).
As always an informative and well organised event for all Rotarians who attended. The day began with
an opening Plenary of district information from DG Jerry Casburn, District Trainer Damian Leach and
the incoming DGE Dick Wilson. We also received an update on membership and resources from Mark
Huddleston and a Presentation on leadership and public speaking from David Griggs.
The rest of the day was divided into Workshop sessions, Di Potter attended the Club Secretary
sessions, Judi Brown the Rotary Youth sessions, Geoff Brown the Rotary Foundation and
International sessions and Tim Mee the President Elect sessions. More Information at the Morialta
Meeting on Wednesday.
This was a great opportunity to learn more about Rotary and to meet fellow Rotarian from within our
Group 7 and the District. We also made contact with Sturt Rotaract members again, including Joshua
Richards.
An enjoyable and informative event for all.
Best Regards – Tim Mee

2015 Cyclone Pam – Vanuatu – Update
Vanuatu is warning it faces imminent food shortages as accounts emerge of huge damage to a large outer
island, days after Cyclone Pam, one of the fiercest cyclones on record pummelled the Pacific archipelago. Relief
agencies have reported that conditions were among the most challenging they have faced, with concerns
mounting that disease and a lack of clean water could add to the revised toll of 11 confirmed fatalities. There are
fears the death toll will also rise once officials reach outer islands to inspect the damage. Communications were
still down to many of Vanuatu's 80 other islands, most only accessible by boat, and Prime Minister Joe Natuman
said it would be at least a week before authorities had a better sense of the destruction. ShelterBox Australia
has sent assessment teams to Vanuatu and have a significant number of shelter boxes ready for deployment to
the areas that have suffered the most damage. In the meantime, it has been decided to coordinate our efforts at
a District level. An initial contribution of $5,000 has already been donated towards this disaster. Donations can

ROTARY RACE DAY
Rotary International is excited and proud to announce our partnership with the South Australian Jockey Club in
the running of our Rotary Race Day.
Rotary is the world’s oldest and largest service organisation made up of over 1.2 million individuals in 215
countries who volunteer to do good in the world.
Rotary clubs bring together dedicated individuals to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action. Our
clubs also offer members opportunities to make new friends, and enjoy fun social activities.
Each Rotary club is supported by Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. Rotary International supports
Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs, campaigns, and initiatives benefitting communities
locally and internationally.
The Rotary Foundation is Rotary’s charitable arm which funds projects by Rotarians and our partners in
communities around the world. As a non-profit entity, all of the Foundation's funding comes from voluntary
contributions made by Rotarians and friends who share our vision of a better world.
With an expected public attendance of over 5000 people we invite you and your organisation to partner with
Rotary at the 2015 Derby Day celebrations
