The mountain lion (also known as cougar, puma, panther and catamount) is a specially protected mammal
in California. Come learn about basic mountain lion biology, behavior, common myths, misconceptions and
safety "do's and don'ts" for both the general public
and for law enforcement first responders.
Bring your questions! All will be answered.
Our speakers, Robin Parks and Johanna Turner, are
field representatives for the Mountain Lion Foundation.
Turner is a trail camera specialist with dynamite
footage of lions living in this region of California. Parks’
presentation is directed to law enforcement officers
who sometimes make life or death decisions in a
mountain lion incident—and to residents concerned
about the safety of their children, pets and livestock.
Their goal is that all those involved in such an
encounter—civilians, law enforcement and the lion—
go home safely at its conclusion.
Robin Parks is a San Diego resident. He retired from
the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) after a
25-year career in federal law enforcement.
Johanna Turner, of Reseda, is a tracker and photographer with the Cougarmagic.com blogger site.
Parks began volunteering at animal sanctuaries,
where he encountered captive mountain lions. This
led him to the Mountain Lion Foundation (MLF,
based in Sacramento). Turner has gained national
recognition for her extraordinary documentation of
cougar behavior in the wild.
Join us May 1 at 7 p.m. at this special PMC Town
Hall. It is free, open to all the public and will be great
fun for the entire family! Dinner is available in the Bistro on the Greens Restaurant at the clubhouse.
