CHANDRAKHENI
PASS - INDIA
TREKKING
CHANDRAKHENI PASS
This is an awesome journey for those of you who want
to experience an untouched trek in India. Trekking to
3,660m where you will witness one of nature’s most incredible panoramic views, as well as camping in the
beautiful wilderness and experiencing the unique culture of the Manala village where the inhabitants consider themselves direct descendants of Alexander the
Great.
INTRODUCTION
We have built the trip around the concept of experiencing an untouched trek that has not been visited my many tourists. The trip will
be a real adventure as we will be camping in various beautiful terrains from forests to the famed alpine meadows.
After our first night in the city, the next morning will see the adventure begin! We’ll hit the road to Naggar, where our trek will begin. India is a vast country, so this relatively short journey will take us a full
day!
The area we have chosen for you in Manali in the Indian Himalaya.
Our journey begins in Delhi, India’s Capital, where we will convene
on our first evening, and will be met at the international airport by
our ground team in India. We will receive our orientation and have
our gear checked when we arrive at our hotel.
But the travel will be worth it when we start our trek into the wilderness on day 3. We will quickly leave behind civilisation and be at
one with nature, waking up each day to stunning Himalayan views
and perfect mountain air.

THE ITINERARY
Day One (26/06/15)– Fly to Delhi
Fly to Delhi from the U.A.E. (we can advise on the various airlines
offering flights). Transfer to your hotel in Delhi and spend the afternoon sightseeing.
Day Two (27/06/15) – Drive to Naggar
You will arrive in Patlikuhl in the morning by car and then check in
at the guesthouse. Naggar was the erstwhile capital of the Kullu
valley, and houses the castle of the royal family (which has now
been converted into a HPTDC hotel). It was also home to Nicholas Roerich, a Russian painter known for his portraits of Indian
leaders and actors, and his Himalayan landscape impressions.
The rest of the day you will get to relax in the rooftop cafe or go
sightseeing around Naggar, view the Roerich Art Gallery and explore the Naggar Castle.
Stay overnight in Chateau de Naggar
Day Three (28/06/15) – Naggar to Rumsu, Trek to Ganachalani
After breakfast we’ll be driven 10km to Rumsu where we start our
trek. We shall walk for about 3-4 hours to reach the campsite at
Ganachalani. We will be hiking through coniferous forests full of
Deodar and pine trees for almost the entire day. Then we will relax and have dinner at our campsite.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Four (29/06/15) – Trek to Celanti
We continue up the trail today with the forests thinning out as we
get higher. The views of the glaciers of the Bara Benghal range
are breathtaking. Then we camp as close to the pass as possible
depending on snow conditions.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Pass (3660m)
An early morning start today (around 5am). We will get to the

panoramic view of the upper Malana valley, Ghalpo peak in Lahaul as well as the snow-capped Himalaya Range rising above
the Parvati valley. We then trek along the ridge to our campsite at
Nagroni. It is a beautiful campsite with unforgettable views of the
Malana glacier.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Food - In the city and when we stay in hotels, food will be varied
and choices will be available. On the trek, as we are camping, food
will be mostly vegetarian, due to the difficulty in transporting meat,
but we will serve meat when possible. The menu will change daily,
serving Indian, Continental and Chinese food. It is clean and full of
energy, which is essential to a successful trek.
Accommodation - In Delhi we’ll be in a well-run, clean hotel, with
en-suite bathrooms, in-room TVs, 24 hour hot water and power and
laundry facilities. Rooms will be on a twin-share basis. In the mountains we will be staying in tents, also on a twin-share basis. A dining
tent will be set up in every camp, which is where we will tend to congregate each night. In Loharkhet and Kathgodam we’ll be in local
guest houses, which are basic but clean.
Gear - We will provide all participants with a full kit list that is provided at the end of this document. This is a highly recommended list
of important items that will make your journey with us comfortable,
as well as safe. Please refer to the list for full details.
Trekking Assistance - we will be accompanied by a full compliment
of porters who will be helping us with our excess luggage. Trekking
days will see us carrying our day packs, with water, food and waterproofs in them. We will also be guided by a head local guide and accompanied by a cook, who will be in charge of keeping us wellfueled.

ABOUT MOUNTAIN QUESTS
Based on the philosophy of ‘Live, Don’t Exist’, Mountain Quests was
set up in April, 2011 by Matt Farr whose passion for mountain
climbing led him to Nepal on a regular basis to conquer the majestic
peaks of the Himalayas. After years of successfully putting his
climbing skills to the test all over the world, including a two week
adventure in the Alps climbing seven mountains in 12 days,
Mountain Quests was born.
With offices in both Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and
Kathmandu in Nepal, Mountain Quests is in full control of its operations, logistics, safety and security to offer clients options of both
tailor-made trips and pre-arranged itineraries.
The essence of every trip is a culturally rich and diverse travel experience that will appeal to people seeking a unique adventure or looking to push physical and emotional boundaries.
The types of trip vary to accommodate different abilities and include
hiking, trekking, expeditions, mountain biking as well as extreme
pursuits including survival trips and adventure sports such as
bungee jumping and paragliding. The core destination of Nepal
make up the portfolio with the addition of Northern India planned
towards the end of 2014.
