Assisting Gardeners Throughout Palm Beach County
Mounts Botanical Garden is a facility of the Palm Beach County Extension Service,
which is in partnership with the University of Florida and Friends of Mounts Botanical
Garden. The Garden’s focus promotes gardens and gardening unique to the
subtropics. The Garden exhibits and evaluates materials environmentally suitable
for home, commercial, and public landscapes while providing opportunities for
people of all ages and backgrounds to learn the art, science, and joy of gardening.
Location: 559 North Military Trail, between Southern Boulevard
and Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, noon – 4:00 p.m.
Admission: Suggested donation $5, except during some special events
Garden Shop at Mounts
Located just inside the Military Trail entrance to the Garden, the Garden Shop
at Mounts offers a selection of gardening gifts, plants and horticulture books
appropriate for South Florida gardens.
Hours are: Thursday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and Sunday, Noon–4:00 p.m.

People, birds and wildlife thrive in this garden!
Anchored by 130 species of native trees, shrubs,
flowers, grasses and aquatic plants, it furnishes the
“homegrown” honeybees, butterflies and assorted
native insects plenty to pollinate! Twenty-one
different species of fruit trees also provide food
for all. A swimming pool has recently been turned
into a charming pond and rain barrels collect
over 1000 gallons of water. Everyone will find new
plants and ideas in this interesting garden!
From I-95 & Okeechobee Blvd./Exit 70: Go west
on Okeechobee Blvd. for 5.2 miles. Turn left onto Skees Rd.
for .3 miles. Take left onto Country Place Rd. for .2 miles.
Go west my friends! This western garden owned by
the proprietors of LM Botanicals is a showstopper.
Their garden has a potpourri of every plant
imaginable. Palms, orchids, ferns, citrus trees,
tropical fruit trees, bromeliads, cactus and much,
much more. As you walk this incredible garden you
will find this garden is huge…a tropical paradise
complete with parrots and waterfalls. From I-95 & Okeechobee Blvd./Exit 70: Go west on
Okeechobee Blvd. for 7.9 miles. Turn right on State Rd. 7 for
3.5 miles. Turn left onto Persimmon for 2 miles (cross canal).
Turn right on 130th Trail North for .8 miles (unpaved). Turn
left onto 57th Place North for .2 miles.
From I-95 & Belvedere Rd./Exit 69: Go east on
Belvedere Rd. for .3 miles. Turn left on Lake Ave. for
.06 miles. Take first right onto Avon Rd., go .2 mile.
Lerner Garden
Joe and Betty Libertucci welcome you with open
arms to their western garden. As you stroll this plant
oasis you will quickly see that this garden is unique
and special. An observation deck that overlooks their
pond is surrounded by bromeliads, orchids, palms
and aroids. The Libertuccis are involved in several
local plant societies and their garden shows it. From I-95 & Okeechobee Blvd./Exit 70: Go west on
Okeechobee Blvd. for 7.9 miles. Turn right on State Rd. 7
for 3.5 miles. Turn left onto Persimmon Blvd. for .7 miles.
Turn right on to Royal Palm Beach Blvd. for 1.1 miles. Turn
left onto 61st St. North for .2 miles. Turn right onto 120 Ave.
North. Take first left onto 61st Lane North for .1 mile.
From I-95 and Southern Blvd./Exit 68: Head west on
Southern Blvd. for 4 miles. Right on exit ramp and turn left
onto Jog for .4 miles. Turn right onto Pioneer Rd. and go
1 mile. Park on Pioneer Rd.
Nestled away in a secluded suburban setting, this
cozy cottage garden is truly a tropical paradise;
mixing a variety of natives, trees, palms and
perennials. This property started with nothing
but sand and weeds, but now boasts 2,000 plants
highlighted by pavers, shell, rocks, stepping
stones and a turf area in the back. There is plenty
of opportunity to explore or relax in the seating
areas throughout the landscape.
From I -95 & Forest Hill Blvd./Exit 66: Head east on
Forest Hill Blvd. for 1.1 miles. Turn right on S. Olive Ave.
for .3 mile. Turn left onto Seville for .04 mile.

Truly a collector’s garden, Tom and Mary Whisler
are very active in the Palm & Cycad Society and have
a large collection of palms from around the world.
The landscape is very detailed and meticulously
maintained. The centerpiece in their front garden
of blue cycads catch your eye immediately. As you
continue around the garden you notice that they
pay a lot of attention to detail. Bromeliads and
orchids dot the landscape, continuing around the
garden, you will find a collection of Cuban Palms.
From I-95 & Northlake Blvd./Exit 77: Take Northlake
Blvd. east 1.5 miles. Turn left on to Prosperity Farms Rd. for
.5 mile. Turn right onto Ibis Way for .05 mile. Take first left
onto Westwood Dr. for .06 mile. Turn right into Jacana Way
for .01 mile.

Park on Pioneer and walk down the long driveway
and you are walking through old Florida! In this pine
forest, you will see old snags still standing, the resting
place for owls at night and woodpecker homes. The
A-frame house is surrounded by specialty gardens,
including a patriotic “red, white and blue” one.
Whimsical garden art abounds everywhere. Many
areas have been left natural to encourage wild life,
and there is bounty from the collection of tropical
fruit trees and native plants to feed them!

This is truly a layered garden with large oaks and
mature palms overhead and a wide variety of
unusual bushes and small trees beneath them. The
real wonder is at your feet. This garden cleverly

walk thru the gate and are greeted by vivid colors
and a garden house that will create garden envy in
everyone. Sitting areas encourage one to relax and
