Adoption Partner Terms

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
All terms and condition must be agreed to in order to partner with Petco stores for adoptions.
Upon agreement, you will be required to acknowledge and provide an electronic signature for
processing. If you do not agree with the following terms and conditions, please do not
continue with the application as it will not be considered.
Staff and Volunteers
All organization staff and volunteers must present themselves professionally. They must be
clean and wear neat clothing while at a Petco location. A nametag and shirt identifying the
adoption partner are preferred.
Adoption partner must provide sufficient volunteers to manage the Petco adoption event and
to provide care for the animals. Adoption staff and volunteers at all adoption events (including
Mobile Adoptions) must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers who are 16 or 17 are permitted
to staff adoption events only if supervised by a volunteer or staff member who is 18 years of
age or older. No staff or volunteers are able to bring children under the age of 16 while working
at a Petco event.
Adoption staff and volunteers may not bring personal animals to adoption events for any
reason. All animals brought to Petco for an adoption event, housed in Petco habitats, or housed
in an adoption center must all be available for adoption.
Non-Petco personnel are not allowed in the Wellness Area or cash register area, office, and
grooming. All volunteers must be accompanied by a Petco associate while in areas where
customers are not allowed
Customer Service
All outstanding customer service principles must be observed towards potential pet parents.
Adoption partner must respond to potential pet parents within 48 hours of receipt of adoption
application. Adoption denials must be handled with sensitivity and tact to preserve the dignity
of all concerned.
Upon approving an adoption application for and adoption facilitated by Petco, the adoption
partner must ensure that the Petco Adoption Form (including the customer’s PALS Number) is
completed and signed. The first page of the Petco Adoption Form must be given to the
Manager on Duty or the Petco Adoption Captain when an animal is adopted. The second page
must be given to the adoptive pet parent.
Adoption Areas
All animals for adoption must be securely contained or on a lead while at a Petco location.
Adoption areas where animals are being shown must be clean and orderly and must not
obstruct access to Petco merchandise or disrupt the flow of traffic within the Petco store. Fire
safety requires store exits to be accessible. The number of animals for adoption allowed in the
store depends on available space and enclosure type. The size of the habitat or enclosures
should allow the animals to standup, lie down and to turn around comfortably. The GM and the
adoption partner must agree upon exceptions in advance
Adoption partner is responsible for providing tables, chairs, office supplies, and any items
necessary for processing adoptions.
All signage, displays, and decorations must be approved by your Petco store General Manager.
Health and Veterinary Care
All animals taken in to your organization must be held for 72 hours prior to coming to a Petco
location for adoption. All animals must be free of parasites (including fleas) and any signs of
illness. Adoption partner must arrange for veterinarian care for any animal that is injured or
appears ill while at Petco. If an animal is showing any signs of illness it cannot be at a Petco
location or must be removed immediately. Manager on Duty will take an ill or injured animal to
the store veterinarian at the expense of the adoption partner in an emergency or if the
adoption partner cannot be reached or does not respond within one hour of initial contact.
Adoption partner is responsible for the care of the animals for adoption and must demonstrate
concern for their health and well-being. Adoption partner is responsible for safely transporting
the animals for adoption to and from any Petco location and tend to the animals ensuring they
always have water and food as needed. This includes both Petco stationary and mobile
adoptions.

Vaccinations and Health Records
All adult animals must have proof of current vaccinations to include:
• Cats – FVRCP and Rabies
• Dogs – DHPP and Rabies
• Ferrets – Rabies
Puppies, kittens, and young ferrets may NOT be placed for adoption at Petco without proof of
the first round of vaccinations. Current medical records must be available on site for all animals
at Petco at all times.
FELV and FIV
We highly recommend testing all cats/kittens for Feline Leukemia. If you do not test for
Leukemia prior to adoption and the cat/kitten is positive for Leukemia within 14 days of
adoption, your organization will agree to take the cat back. FIV and FELV positive cats are not
permitted at/in Petco stores or at Petco adoption events. However, you are permitted to
promote the adoption by providing information to potential adopters.
Spay and Neuter
All dogs, cats, rabbits, and ferrets for adoption must be spayed or neutered before adoption or
have an adoption agreement that requires the animal to be spayed or neutered within a certain
timeframe.
Temperaments
For the safety of people and animals, animals for adoption must have good temperaments. Any
animal showing signs of aggression cannot be at a Petco location or must be removed
immediately.
Micro-Chip
Your organization agrees to allow the new pet parents as the main contact on any micro-chip
documentation.
Stationary Habitat Adoption Partners
Animal welfare organization must provide all food, toys, and accessories, disinfect every habitat
weekly, change/clean litter in each habitat regularly, and ensure litter is appropriate for each
animal and odor-free.
Animals must be visited at least once daily for food, water, spot cleaning and exercise as
needed.
Animal welfare organization must seek prior approval from the Petco Store General Manager
before leaving any supplies at a Petco location. Upon approval, label all food and accessories as
“Adoption Partner” and ask the General Manager where to store them off the sales floor
REPTILES
All reptiles brought for adoption are legal to obtain and house in the state.
SMALL ANIMALS
All small animals brought for adoption are legal to obtain and house in the
State. All small animals will be segregated by species and gender and opposite sex companion
animals will not be adopted to the same adopter unless both are spayed and neutered.
Reporting Requirements
The Petco Foundation desires to partner with organizations that make a significant lifesaving
impact for companion animals. It is important to the Foundation to monitor the impact within
the organization and if possible the community. Consequently, ongoing reporting and animal
data is important to enable to the Foundation to evaluate the lifesaving impact of partners.
Adoption partner agrees to provide the Petco Foundation with annual reports. Such reports
will require continued disclosure of basic organizational information similar to the information
in this application and will include information regarding the number of animals cared for and
the operations of the partner.
Adoption partner agrees to provide such reports and any other information as may be
reasonably requested by the Petco Foundation in the requested form, which most likely will
require filing annual reports in the Petco Foundation’s online grant reporting system.
Non-disparagement Clause
Adoption organization agrees that any public messaging that includes information about Petco
or the Petco Foundation shall promote positive messaging about helping animals and saving
lives. Adoption organization, and all parties representing adoption organization, agrees that it
shall not disparage or speak negatively or take any action intended, or which would reasonably
be expected, to harm Petco or the Petco Foundation or its reputation or which would
reasonably be expected to lead to unwanted or unfavorable publicity to Petco or the Petco
Foundation.
Indemnity
Adoption Partner shall be liable for any and all losses arising from, in connection with, or based
on any claim relating to any false information provided or an alleged breach of Adoption
Partner’s obligations under this Petco Foundation Application & Agreement & Qualification
Form. Additionally, Adoption Partner will at its expense indemnify, defend and hold harmless
Petco and its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents,
representatives, successors and assigns, from and against any and all such losses. For the
purposes of the foregoing indemnity, “Claim” means any third party demand, or any civil,
criminal, administrative, or investigative claim, action, or proceeding (including arbitration)
asserted, commenced or threatened against an entity or person. “Losses” means all losses,
liabilities, damages, liens, and claims, and all related costs, expenses, and other charges
suffered or incurred as a result of or in connection with a Claim, including reasonable attorneys'
fees and disbursements, costs of investigation, litigation, settlement, and judgment, and any
taxes, interest, penalties, and fines with respect to any of the foregoing.
No Solicitations
There is no soliciting of donations for your organization on Petco property.
No Smoking
No smoking is allowed in any Petco location.
Cameras and Other Image Recording Devices
Use of cameras and other image-recording devices, including camera phones, is not allowed on
Petco property without prior approval from the Manager on Duty.
This partnership may be discontinued for any reason, and at any time, with notification from
the General Manager, District Manager, National Adoption Program Managers, or the Petco
Foundation.
State-specific considerations
AGREEMENT - ILLINOIS ADOPTION PARTNERS
Illinois - Department of Agriculture Bureau of Animal Health and Welfare Public
Act 096-1470
According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture Bureau of Animal Health and Welfare Public
Act 096-1470, adoption partners in Illinois must provide to the adopter prior to the time of
adoption documentation stating: 1) The breed, age, date of birth, sex and color of the dog or
cat being offered for adoption, or if unknown, provide an estimate to the best of your ability. 2)
The details of any inoculation or medical treatment that the dog or cat received while under the
possession of the adoption organization. 3) The adoption fee and any additional fees or
charges. 4) If the dog or cat was returned by an adopter, then the date and reason for the
return. 5) The following written statement, ”A copy of our policy regarding warranties, refunds,
or returns is available upon request.” 6) The number of the animal shelter or animal facility
issued by the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
Illinois - Posting Information
The information listed above in the above question must be posted in a conspicuous place on
or near the cage of any dog or cat available for adoption. If not posted on the cage, a sign must
be clearly posted by the cages stating where the information is located. The information must
be located in the area and readily accessible to the public.
AGREEMENT - MASSACHUSETTS ADOPTION PARTNERS
Massachusetts Adoption Eligibility
Adoption partners in Massachusetts must also read and sign the Massachusetts Adoption
Eligibility form.
On Site Documentation
Adoption partners in Massachusetts must have on site documentation stating where your
adoption organization obtained the animal from, their location or the place and date of
isolation and a health certificate and provide this to the adopter.
