a 34-year-old woman at Garware

her lustfully and touched her

SUNDERVAN: In an attempt to
ensure that their area is free from
hawker menace, the residents of
Sundervan Complex took to the
streets and held a silent protest
march on April 19. Members of the
protest also kicked off a signature
campaign in an attempt to peacefully
make the Government understand
their needs.
The silent march started from
outside Sundervan Complex, went
up to Lokhandwala Circle and
culminated back at where it had
started. On their way, alert citizens
augmented in strength and evicted a
number of illegal encroachments on
the footpath. Residents moved
around the area peacefully with
various banners, protesting the
hawker nuisance.
Vishwa Shah, a resident of
Sundervan who led the protest said,
“Already in Andheri West, there are
hawkers illegally operating at every
nook and corner. Ironically, this
continues despite the Central
Government and the PMO is
promoting the agenda of 'Swacch
Bharat.' We as citizens have
encouraged this initiative but we
believe that allowing encroachments
on the streets to facilitate the
hawkers will result in a step back
from the same. Pressure from the
citizens has led to the scrapping of
the Development Plan. However,
little will change for Mumbaikars, like
the sorry state of our footpaths that
are illegally occupied by hawkers.
T h e y h a v e fo r e v e r i l l e g a l l y
encroached areas. Also they are
never spotted around areas that
house VIPs. Why is that so?”
Another resident Alok Ulfat said,
“This is a protest not for the number
of people gathered here today but for
their thought process. Its about the
citizens who are actually concerned
about their surroundings. If our
footpaths are allotted to hawkers,
where will elders, pregnant women
and children walk?”
As the march proceeded towards
Lokhandwala Circle, there was a stall
under the name of the Republican
Party of India, which had encroached
upon the entire footpath, blocking
the way for pedestrians. Another
Sundervan resident Surya Rampal
said, “This stall has been removed
twice earlier. I don't know how it
keeps coming back.” Walking
towards the circle, outside Shastri
Nagar, an MNS structure was
observed, having a permanent
seating arrangement and party
banners on the footpath. The MNS
members also reportedly conduct
meetings there. Just a few meters
ahead on the same footpath was a
cobbler's stall, who though had the
necessary license, had encroached
upon extra space and had given it to
out another man to carry out
business. A local resident said, “He
has been given license to use the
footpath, but he must have sub
contracted the same to the other
vendor. This is not legal.” On seeing
the strength of the crowd, the
cobbler quickly wound up and closed
shop. Another stall owner was asked
to show his license, who was carrying
out business under the name of
Aarey Milk Centre. When the
residents asked him to remove all
other stock from the place except
milk, he instantly did so and said he
would henceforth only sell what he
was permitted to sell.
Another resident Vikas said, “We
don't have any problem with these
poor people who are doing their
business but even we have the right
to walk on the footpath. So, if they
are doing their business, they should
do it in a way that does not affect us.”
Local Corporator Jyotsana Dighe
said, “I have complained about the
footpath encroachment to the
License Department of the BMC.
They have alleged that the hawkers
have the support of some big
politician. Regardless, I have
instructed the BMC to not care about
anyone and send a warning letter to
hawkers, to evict the place or any
extra space they have encroached
upon. This should be sorted out
soon."

Mumbai Messenger Correspondent
VERSOVA: Recently, an initiative to
reclaim Versova beach kick started,
wherein MLA Ameet Satam took a
pledge to save Versova, under the
guidance of VP BJP Andheri West
Satyajit Sharma, VP BJP Yuva
Morcha, Vice Presidents Rohan
Rathod and Abheshek Tiwari.
Involving citizens from around
Versova beach, a March was
organised, starting on Juhu Versova
Link Road - from the junction leading
to 4 Bungalows, which is besieged
with encroachers, not only claiming
footpaths, but also roads for their
own (illegal) set ups.
The March moved on to Nana
Nani Park - 7 Bungalows and then to
Versova beach, via the Sri Ganesh
Visarjan lane. This is presently the
only available access to the beach
because the entrance and the whole
lane is clogged with double parked
auto rickshaws, which get cleaned
with water early in the morning and
leave behind dirt and grime.
Abheshek Tiwari said, “There are
heavy commercial vehicles parked
on the beach, along with other
commercial and private vehicles too.
One gets the impression that we
have reached a filthy parking lot of a
poorly maintained industrial area,
rather than the single largest beach
in the city of Mumbai. The same
clogged road is used for these
vehicles to transit, making it a high
potential accident-prone zone.”
The beach per se has seen four
demolitions, undertaken by instance
of Satam, in the last few weeks, to
remove squatters and Methi farmers
who, invariably are back, almost as
soon as the demolition squads leave.
Satam has raised this issue also in
the assembly. A proposal to make
Versova beach a world-class tourist
spot has received in principle
approval from the CM, spot surveys
have been done, jointly by the
Maharashtra tourism department
and the collector's office.
Till the proposals come through,
BJP Team Sharma, Rohan Rathod,
Vicky Mehera, Abheshek Tiwari and
interested citizens have proposed to
conduct holiday activities on the
beach from May 1. The activities shall
comprise of outdoor sports,
competitions, wellness programs
and cultural activities.
Ameet Satam asserted, “Beaches
are public places and the public holds
the right to enjoy open spaces. No
illegal encroachments or nefarious
activities like defecation in the open,
drugs, storage and parking of
commercial goods/vehicles should
be tolerated. Laws pertaining to all
such activities applied and
authorities concerned should
implement them at the soonest.”
Satam's goal is to convert the area
into the "Soul of Mumbai" and allow
the whole of Mumbai and India to
enjoy "Oneness with the Sea" in a
good, clean, accessible and
environment friendly atmosphere.

SC order on cohabiting
for long time
presumed married
- right or wrong?
If a man and woman have cohabited continuously for a long time, the law presumes
they are married, the Supreme Court has said while holding that a woman is eligible to
inherit her partner's property after his death. Shrutika Sukhi speaks to a few Andheri
residents about their views on SC's ruling...
PHOTOS/SHARAD & DIKSHA
PURNIMA SHAH, 38
I am not in favor of the law passed. What if the
couple splits and decides not to be together?
What if one decides to marry someone else?
Such laws will affect the image of a girl who has
in the past, lived in a live-in relationship.
AARSIYA KHAN, 25
There is nothing wrong in
the judgment. A couple
who lives together shares
everything, just like a
married one. So there
shouldn't be any
discrimination. It is a
correct thing to do as in
this way, the law is in
favor of the couple,
especially the girl.
DEEP THAKKAR, 20
An unmarried couple who has been living together is doing so with each other's
consent. When two people live together, marriage is somewhere on the cards.
They just aren't willing to take the step immediately. So an unmarried couple
should get the same rights as a married one and it's been a right move on behalf
of the Supreme Court.
ARIF SHAIKH, 20
I think the law passed by the Supreme Court is
completely wrong. If two people aren't married
they shouldn't be given the right which is
granted to a married couple as the biggest
difference between the two is that they are 'not'
married. This is completely unethical and
biased.
MANISHA TAKLKAR, 30
I think the court has taken the right decision.
Now couples who are living together will take
their relationship seriously. They will think
before leaving their partners. It will help their
relationship to grow and nurture.
Assam to Mumbai
for Lata’s sake
Hailing from Assam, Mistu wants to sing for the rest of
her life and stay in Mumbai, the city in which her idol
Lata Mangeshkar resides
Kritika Sharma
SEVEN BUNGALOWS: From a small town located in Assam to the city of dreams, Mistu Bardhan has
made the long journey to live in Mumbai, just to be in the same city her idol Lata Mangeshkar resides.
It is not lesser than any miracle that Mistu's melodious voice resembles that of legendary singer
Lata Mangeshkar. She is as soft spoken as the Nightingale of India. This is the only reason that since
birth, she was advised by her family and friends to rehearse singing. She says, “My grandmother
used to wake me up at 4am saying that Lata di must have also woken up by now to rehearse singing.
In fact, she used to chalk out my day's schedule by saying the same thing. I wasn't allowed to listen
to any songs except Didi's (Lata Mangeshkar) songs.”
Mistu was raised with just one ambition – of meeting Lata Mangeshkar. She fulfilled her dream
three years ago when she came to Mumbai for the first time. “On the very first day I came to Mumbai,
I went to her house and requested her security guards to let me meet didi, but they refused. They
said that unless I had an appointment, I could not meet her. I wept continuously and refused to
return without meeting didi. I told the guards that I would sit there until she met me. After a while, a
man came to whom the guards spoke about me. He later returned saying that Lata didi was calling
me. I started shivering the very moment I heard those words. Even while going upstairs, I was
feeling her presence. I could feel her steps on the stairs and everywhere else. The moment I saw
Lata Didi, my world stopped for a while. I sat down near her feet and kept crying. She even
apologized to me that she made me cry for herself. I was there for two hours, wherein I spent all my
time crying in front of her.”
Mistu now does not want to go back home ever. She wants to stay in Mumbai, because this is the
city in which Lata Mangeshkar breathes. She does not have any hidden ambitions. She simply wants
to sing for the rest of her life and stay in Mumbai. She has already launched an album with Kumar
Sanu and is in talks with many others for future projects.
POOJA HOLE, 24
I don't appreciate the
entire concept of a live-in
relationship, especially in
India. It should not be
permitted. This does not
go well with our culture.
So this law does not seem
justified and fair to me.
RANJU JADHAV, 30 : I am unmarried and I want to remain so, since I am not
ready for all the restrictions that a marriage brings along. It feels good to live a
life like this - there is more freedom and space. Most couples who are in a live
in relationship feel the same way. They don't want to get tied up with cultural
restrictions. So if they prefer living together at the same time giving each other
space, so be it. However, this doesn't mean they don't get the rights like a
normal married couple, as there is no difference between the two. The
judgment will only help the girl, in case the partner expires, which is good.
PRAVIN SHAHI, 22
I feel there should be a limit of a few years for a live-in relationship couple to be
treated at par with a married one. If they have lived together for 5 to 10 years,
they can be presumed married, but not otherwise. Also, the entire reason why a
couple opts for a live in relationship is because they don't want to get married
and they don't want the responsibilities that come along. They want to know if
they are compatible enough to get married. So the courts judgment seems
wrong to me.

According to me, the law which has been
passed is correct. A couple living together for a
long time is no different than a married one.
They have the same lifestyle. So the girl getting
a right in property after her partner dies is
completely justified.

I think its completely wrong as now-a-days
relationships don't last for long for varied
reasons. Women keep switching boyfriends. If
one doesn't give them attention, they go the
another. They don't stick with one guy for a long
time. So such a move is not justified.

CAREER CHOICE

Design your way to fame
Shaili Madan
Welcome to the world of fame, glamour and
competition. Fashion Designing has become one
of the most popular career options for young
girls and boys who love to look good and dress
smart. Designing today is not just good tailoring
or putting expensive tags on clothes, but a
whole new attitude to create a demand for your
innovation.
There are many fashion designers in the
market who thrive to find a niche for
themselves. To become a fashion designer one
need not go to the best fashion institute.
Remember, Armani was a Science student and
Calvin Klein was never trained as a designer.
However, being a fashion student will help one
understand the technical side of designing at a
quicker pace. A course that teaches both design
and technical skills is an added advantage to
work in the industry. To be a fashion designer,
essentially one needs to firstly possess
knowledge about fashion and secondly have an
eye for what looks good. Besides, one needs a
good eye for colour and shape. One needs skills
like pattern cutting and sewing. One also needs
to be able to spot trends.
One should understand that Fashion
Designing is a very broad term. An ocean of
options are available to a person who wants to
pursue a career in fashion. Depending on the
line of fashion one wants to choose, for
example, men's fashion, children wear, western
or Indian wear, one can begin to gain experience
and insight into the field. Similarly, if one wants
to start with export garments they will require to
learn about international markets and for this
reason apprenticeship with an export house is
ideal.
Several export houses, garment store chains,
textile mills, leather companies, boutiques,
fashion show organizers, jewellery houses and
media houses recruit professionals interested in
a career in fashion designing. Besides the
conventional jobs related to fashion design,
there is also a great scope for parallel fields such
as fashion marketing, planning and concept
management, fashion media, design production
management, fashion accessory design, quality

control and promotion of brands. With mega
malls mushrooming at nuclear speed, the
fashion market is soaking up trained
professionals in the fields of design,
management, communication and technology.
Consequently, the international market is a
whole new ball game, offering better
prospectuses both in terms of salary and
growth. Fashion trailblazers like Ritu Beri,
Sabyasachi Mukherji, Rohit Bal, Manish Arora
and Satya Paul have opened up new avenues
abroad for ambitious Indian designers in the
international market.
One would often work long hours and
weekends in order to meet deadlines, for
example at the launch of a new collection. One
would be based in a studio or workshop, but
may travel to visit manufacturers (often
overseas). One could also go on research visits,
for example to art galleries, trade shows or to
particular places or countries that are linked to a
design theme.
There is immense growth possibility for a
fashion designer where even the sky is not a
limit. Today international markets are accepting
and praising Indian designs more than ever
before, thereby broadening the scope for one to
display their talent.

GodFather Films and Fourth Dimention Entertainment

Cinema Hall, directed by Pushpendra Singh on April 17.
The star cast of the film is Ajaz Khan, Sara Khan and
many others. The story line depicts the real incidents
and occurrence about a place in Uttar Pradesh.
After being successful in Software Technologies in Germany, you started
modelling. How did that happen?
I think it was all pre decided. I wanted to pursue a career in modelling and
acting since childhood but my parents felt differently. So I quit the plan and
shifted to Germany for my education. I did my Post Graduation from the
University of Stuttgart, Germany. After my studies, I got job in a bank. I then also
started working as a model in Germany with Agency Lousia Models and things
just kept working in my favour.
How did Louisa Models approach you?
They really took me by surprise. I was giving various modelling agencies a
shot, and Louisa Models was one of them. When I approached them, they
rejected me. But one day when I was in the gym, someone from their company
spotted me and gave me an offer.
What were the major modelling projects you got in Germany?
I was a model for Abercrombie and Fitch, did ramp shows for Espirit, Zara and
Soliver, Catalogue shoot for Italian high-end clothing brand Ermenegildo Zegna
and I also did the Munich Magazine fashion shoot.
Why did you leave Germany, despite a good career?
Germany doesn't have that much of fashion and modelling as India does.
There were no frequent assignments. Another reason to move was my love for
acting.
What were the projects you got after coming to India?
I have won Mr. Photogenic and Mr. Stylish in Mandate Model Hunt organised
by Magna publications. I have been featured on the Health Magazine cover page
(March Edition) and have also done a fashion shoot with Actress Sophie
Choudhary in Mandate Magazine (March Edition). I have walked for some
wonderful designers like JJ Valaya, Jaya Mishra, Sanjana Jon, Manoviraj Khosla,
Chaitanya Rao and Rohit Verma. I walked in Mumbai for Zoya Jewellery Fashion,
Lions Club Fashion show and Kingfisher Hyderabad International Fashion week.
Where do you prefer working - India or Germany?
I find India a better place to work in now. People here are emotionally
connected and if you do just one project for someone, you create a bond with
them. But in Germany, you matter just till your assignment is over. Also, I am very
fascinated with Mumbai. It is truly a city of dreams and opportunities, which has
given me so much in just few months.
How did Mr. India Global happen?
It was pure luck for me. I got information about the contest on Facebook but
till the time I contacted them, the registrations were closed. Despite this, they
called me at their office, after which I was selected.
What after becoming Mr. India Global?
Well becoming Mr. India Global was a really big achievement for me. Now, the
pressure has increased, as I will be representing my country internationally.
Currently I am focusing upon the international pageant slated to take place in
Miami, Florida. I need to prepare myself both mentally and physically for that. I
will then shift my focus towards acting.

INNER PEACE
the way to bliss!
A step towards loving yourself
In our doctrines, its time and again
mentioned: Love others the way you
love yourself. Right! The way you love
yourself, so you won't be able to love
others until you learn to love yourself.
We are talking about respecting and
cherishing the wonderful expression
of divine we are and just the way we
are. We don't know where we have
learnt to resist this, still we have to
first learn to love ourselves so we can
love others too. We can learn to love
ourselves in many ways, it can be fun
or painful, still we can always choose a
joyous way.
There are plenty of steps for loving
ourselves, lets start working with this
one. Stop all criticism, and stop
criticizing yourself now and forever,
never again. Make a commitment to
yourself that I am not going to do this
anymore, You have been criticizing
yourself for years and years and you
are still criticizing yourself for the
same stuff, so it doesn't seem to work,
why don't we try another way. Plenty
of people criticize themselves thinking
they will improve when they do not
approve and accept a certain thought
process about themselves, still it
doesn't improve, but breaks your soul
and makes you feel something is
wrong. When you are criticizing
yourself for something it means you
do not like a thought you have about
you, or you hate a thought you have
about yourself, still you know selfhatred is only hating thoughts about
yourself. And that it is, and you don't
want to hate yourself for having
thoughts. You gently want to change
that thoughts, change your thinking,
You know you are worth loving, and
all of us are. We do not have to earn
love. We are lovable just because we
exist. When you hate others, then
that's also the same. You just hate the
thought you have about the them and
so you can't accept them. This shows
when you can't love yourself thinking
some thought about yourself then you
can't even love others thinking those
thought about them.
Let's come from a place where it's
okay to be who you are and make the
changes, what a revolution when we

discover that we can make changes in
our life without being a bad person
and then change, we could be okay
and then change. Criticism never
changes a thing, refuse to criticize
yourself and accept yourself as you
are. When you criticize yourself, your
changes are automatically negative,
when you approve of yourself, it
amazing how your changes are
positive. Our ability to change and
adapt the flow with the process of life
is our healing power. We are powerful
beings. Our power lies in the choice of
thoughts, every thought we think and
every word we speak are creative and
it creates our experiences, they
contribute to everything we do in life.
So choose the thought you think.
Sometimes they just zip by quickly,
but still you can choose them. So
choose thoughts that are uplifting and
supporting, you really want to love
yourself than it essential leave
criticizing yourself, now and ever
absolutely, you can do it. Just a make
a commitment.
Moving on...to what you want
Shaili Madan
Whether life hands you a bucket of stuff that you're
anxious to get rid of, or you find yourself sitting on life's
sidelines but longing for something more, the dilemma is
the same. How do we get the push we need to move on?
Its that old approach – avoidance keeps us stuck. Our
hearts say “Go” but our feet won't move! Our friend says
“Move” and we dig in our heels. One foot firmly placed in
what we know; the other poised to take us to what we truly
desire. It all seems simple, intellectually. We want
something different, so why don't we just move forward
with all the gusto we can muster? A psychologist says
resistance and fear are two primary roadblocks to moving
further.
“Resistance,” you are probably thinking “what planet
is she form? You bet I am resistant. Who wants to lose a
mate, get fired, and get diagnosed with hypertension?” or
perhaps you find yourself in some other equally
comfortable place. So what's resistance got to do with
moving on or drowning in misfortune?
Veena Shah, a psychologist explains, “Imagine you are
standing by the ocean's edge. For balance, you dig your
heels into the sand. But each new wave just knocks you
down. Finally, the undertow drags you out to the sea. If
you try swimming back against the tide, you'll exhaust
yourself and drown. If you swim parallel to shore until the
powerful current subsides, you will likely survive.
Therein lies the first secret to moving on... don't waste
energy resisting what is beyond your control.”
It is impossible to move in two directions at the same
time. As long as you fight against what you don't want,
you will make no progress towards what you desire. “She
continues, “So consider this. The next time you
experience loss, face disappointment, or have a streak of
bad luck, by all means kick and scream, whine and
weep...for a while. It's okay to ask 'Why me?' for a while.
Then its time to shift gears and start accepting what is.
You may be feeling your situation is unfair, but in reality,
it just is. So instead of railing against what is, try to
embrace any good that is hidden in it. Once you have
mourned your loss, and acknowledged any good, shift
your focus to what you want next. Allow yourself to
dream again....of how you want to feel, who you want to
share your life with, where you want to live, what you
want to contribute, and when you want to move on. Then,
you'll just have your feet to follow your heart.”
Fear of the unknown – anything outside our comfort
zone is universally human. It is exquisitely normal to be
afraid. But it need not be immobilising. For the courage to
walk with your fears in the direction of your dreams, you
might have to change your mind - or your thoughts.
Change all thoughts to empowering ones. She says, “Ask
not 'Why me?' Ask 'What can I do to reach my goals?'
Change any mindset of 'I can't' to 'I can.' With this, you
will have the courage to face any future challenges.
Change any overly independent thoughts such as 'I'll
handle this alone' to 'I have enough sources of help, if I
simply ask.'”
The secret to moving on is to simply keep
moving...one thought, one step, and one day at a time.

highlights on the
benefits of using
Air Purifiers &
Dehumidifiers
along with the
rise in demand
for these products in India.
What products does the
company presently have under
its dehumidifier category and
any new product additions to be
made under this category this
year?
AMFAH INDIA, is a group
company of AMFAH GENERAL
LLC Dubai, established in the year
of 2007 having focused on air
treatment products. The company
is known for introducing range of
exclusive / new category of
products in Indian market like
domestic / semi – commercial /
commercial De-humidifiers, Air
Purifiers and Portable Air
Conditioner.
Which of your dehumidifier
products have you seen a
‘With global warming affecting the world, the
need for Air Purifiers & Dehumidifiers are increasing’
higher demand for in the India
market? Who are your major
clients?
With 'global warming' affecting
worldwide including India, the need
for dehumidifier is ever increasing
in all sectors affected by high
humidity and the awareness has
been the challenge. We cater to all
the three segments for
dehumidifiers in residential, semicommercial and commercial
sectors. As our domestic models
are being used by many reputed
hotels for their guest rooms, the
semi-commercial dehumidifiers are
being utilised by F&B department
to preserve their food fungus /
mould free all the time. Similarly,
our commercial range of
dehumidifiers are leaders in food
manufacturing units of various
reputed companies across India.
Some of our esteemed clients are
Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank,
Aditya Birla, Wipro, Four Seasons
Hotel, Jubilant Foodworks Limited
(Dunkin Donuts / Domino's Pizza),
Novartis, Cognizant, AIIMS
Hospital Delhi, Emirates Airways,
TATA Communication, Hyundai
Motors, Mahindra Rise, ASUS,
Siemens, Parle Agro, Yes Bank,
RBS Bank, US Consulate and
many more.
What are the benefits of using
dehumidifier's vis-a-vis air
conditioners in terms of
performance, longevity, cost,
etc?
Air conditioners main objective is to
cool the air and it cannot prevent
the growth of mould, fungus, musty
odour, dampness in rooms or
different facilities. And all of them
are very harmful and dangerous in
their own way. A dehumidifier's
main job is reduce the humidity in
a very controlled way and to
protect you and your valuable from
mould, fungus, musty odour,
malfunctioning of electronics
equipment and dampness in room.
Keeping humidity at the right level
(i.e. between 50 – 60 per cent) will
protect a lot of things including
food, electronics equipments,
peeling of wall paintings from mold,
fungus, mildew etc.
What is the present and future
growth of the air purification
market in India and what factors
do you attribute for driving this
growth?
The present growth of air purifiers
in India is very slow due to lack of
knowledge and awareness, where
as the future of its market is very
promising as India is under radar
from the world community
monitoring its air quality. There are
enough statistics to prove with
reasons on rising air concerns and
adverse health effects. Like the
water purifier success story, the air
purifier business is on the rise, with
many companies and brands
entering the Indian market and it is
expected to be a mature product
category in the next three-five
years. The product air purifier is
expected to occupy its position at
home, offices and across different
sectors.
What has been the company's
revenue growth y-o-y and what
revenue target has it set for this
FY?
We are growing year-on-year with
30 per cent and the range has
been expanded from one model of
dehumidifier in 2009 to nine
models by current year along with
air purifiers (made in Taiwan) and
extremely powerful portable AC.
Any other significant factor.
After water the next concern area
across the globe has been air and
people in India have exposure
majorly only with air conditioning,
there is a big emerging world
beyond air conditioners addressing
air quality and rising humidity
issues.

Married to the Mob
For those who believe a woman's relationship with violence ends at the
chopping board, police records have a word or two to say. Though the Mafiadom
is basically dominated by men but of late several from the female specy to have
started to play a role in the underworld.
The police say Suresh Manchekar's wife and mother
were running his syndicate even before the don's death.
They allegedly looked after the finances of the gang and
kept the extortion racket oiled, apart from recruiting
people. Both are in jail now.
Psychologists refuse to attribute any particular
biological or psychological to the phenomenon. “Dons'
wives are victims of their destiny,” says Satya Pal Singh,
former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. “When a
woman marries a criminal or a don knowing very well his
background, they are destined to suffer.”
Police sources say don's wives seldom work beyond
the instructions of their husbands. But after a mobster
dies, their wives and partners have been known to often
take over and competently run their empires.
From Phoolan Devi to Santokben Jadeja women have proved that if needed,
they can wield guns and set up their own fiefdom.
Yesterday I met
Anshu Sharma who
has just entered her
Class X. I asked her
how she felt. She
said, "Stressed and
tensed." I asked her
for one word that
Brigadier
Sushil Bhasin describes her feelings.
She said Danger'...and
went on to describe it as a 'Ghost.'
This got me thinking. I also went
through Class X in 1965. Now it is
2015. Half a century ago. These
feelings are still the same. Why do
exams still scare students? Why do
they radiate stress, and now parents
get stressed more than students.
With 50 years whizzed past, I am
now wiser, supported by experience.
I asked her, "Do you like Danger?"
"Obviously No," she said. Can you
ever enjoy or score well at something
you don't like? Something that is
repulsive, something you hate. She
said, “No.” "If you want good results
you must get yourself to look at it
more differently - positively," I told
her. Embrace it rather than reject it.
Something that makes the picture
brighter. I asked her to rethink and
visualize exams to be something
I decided to make her Board Exams
my project. How can I help her go
through this one year happily,
without stress and achieve desired
outcomes? So we are now working
I asked her to calculate the number of days left for the exams. She said 317.
I asked her to leave out Sundays and rounded them off to 275 days.
Then I asked her how many hours she could spend on study every day. She
said after school and tuitions she can manage 2 hours a day.
10 subjects and 275 days. Means 55 hours per subject. History is her
favourite and Chemistry is toughest. So we decided to adjust. 40 hours for
History and 70 hours for Chemistry. Accordingly she will allot hours for every
subject.
She is to formulate a Timetable which she will follow and review every
Sunday. Sunday will be for entertainment and fun. Every day One hour is for
TV, newspaper, relaxation etc.
We also agreed on a "three-step" study.
1. Read through (scan) the chapter before the class
2. Revise what you study today, in the evening and make short notes.
3. Quick revision of todays subject after 3 days
We worked on concentrating skills too. She will be recording her
concentration quotient every evening and see how she can improve.
We are working on some memory skills too.
I asked her how many marks she expects. She said 92. She has made a
poster of 92 and pasted it on a wall in a manner that it's the first thing she
sees every morning.

Dark ages of
women's liberation
We, the people need a revolutionary change of mindset before
we can start making an impact on society
It is not new to us, reading
newspaper headlines on rapes, acid
attacks, molestation, dowry deaths
are just other stories we browse
through briefly and flip the page
over. Some react and some don't.
Some say it is justified, some go
livid. The episode takes place, the
victim suffers but what does the
society do? Argue, debate, forget and
move on. The victim usually carries
the scar all her life which may result
in a disturbed life if not treated
physically, emotionally and
mentally.Crimes against women are
not a new phenomenon. Women and
men both suffer human rights
violations in society. However, the
particular ways in which women are
targeted for violence or are otherwise
affected by crime is often
overlooked.
Sona Mastan (left), Asha Gawli (top) and Monika Bedi (below).
The Next Step
different. She paused and said
"Step." “That's a good one,” I said. A
step she must take towards a
successful life. So the Ghost turned
into a Step.
Women and girls are more likely
to be the target of sexual violence,
especially rape and acid attacks.
Women face extra, sometimes
insurmountable, obstacles to
obtaining justice, because of the
stigma attached to survivors of
sexual violence and women
disadvantaged position in society.
It is a well known fact that most
aggressors are known to the victims
– as husbands, friends, colleagues,
neighbours or even former
employers. But what can be said if
the crime is perpetrated by the police,
our law keepers? There may be a
number of exceptions in the case of
victims where a disaster would be
waiting to happen, but the very fact
that women don't feel safe
approaching a policeman, says it all.
Their impression is not something
Some join gangs for the power of the gun while
others lead a life of crime by compulsion. There are
many instances where wives or mistresses of small-time
criminals have joined ranks with their men just to prove
their love and loyalty.
As one browses down the history of local crime, one
finds that the two wives of Karim Lala were never seen
in public barring at closed-door family functions, that
too in a 'purdah'. Very few had seen the wife of
Vardarajan Mudaliar. The only time she would appear in
Baljeet Parmar
public was during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The lone exception was small-time actress Sona —
the mistress of Haji Mastan — who worked in the bollywood.
Among the younger lot, Dawood Ibrahim's wife never made any public
appearances. Though his close associates used to visit his mansion named White
House in Dubai, the woman of the house was always behind 'purdah'.
This trend probably has something to do with divergent social ethos — the
Muslim wives seemed more conservative and introverted while the Hindu ones
were more extrovert and outgoing.
Slain gangster Amar Naik's wife Anjali tried hard to run the gang after her
husband's death but failed. Ashwin Naik's wife Nita became a Corporator against
her husband wishes and was subsequently gunned down.
During the days when don turned MLA Arun Gawli was externed from the city
for two years, his wife Asha held the flag aloft at Dagdi Chawl.
that the hierarchy can be proud of. It
is not about generalising and saying
that all police officers are insensitive
and lecherous when it comes to
women, but yes, many are. Take the
case of a cop in our local police
station. He recently claimed to a
molestation victim that being
touched inappropriately by men was
not a crime! If the men in khakhi
behave in this manner, how is the
public to approach them?
Ofcourse, I also agree to the fact
that the media does play a huge role
in blowing up certain cases, and
badly tarnishing the image of certain
policemen, though again most times,
this is what they may deserve. It is a
sad fact that several women are raped
everyday and most of them are often
reluctant to report rape to the police
because they know they can lead to
further complications. The strong
cultural, social and religious taboos,
against rape also make it harder for
women to speak out.
The police, is yet to display the
measure of sensitivity expected out
of them when such cases arise.
Inspiration and drive need to come
from the higher echelons. Nothing
else will transform the general
apathy of the police to gender justice.
SOME TIPS
1. Wake up with some positive
thought about exams. Visualise
your exams as a step, as an
enabler, as a platform that will
help you go up in life. Maybe a
springboard. Put up a picture on
the wall of such a visual. Don't
think of exams as horror, danger,
tough, etc. utter a positive
affirmation, like, Oh my friend
exams, I am ready to embrace you
with love. I am coming out with
flying colors. Anything that makes
you feel good.
2. Look at the 92 poster and have a
friendly conversation with it.
Embrace it.
3. Consistency is the keyword. 2
hours a day. No way can it be less.
Review on Sunday. Make up for
losses, if any. Build a reserve. Do
2.5 or 3 when possible
4. Focus. Concentrate. Sitting on
the table with books is not
studying.
I, therefore, see a clear role of nongovernmental organisations in
protecting women. We have a large
number of them in India who have
been quite active. What impact have
they made on guarding women
against crime is yet unclear, though
some are making an active and
sincere effort in that direction. In
today's society, women are not only
victims and survivors, but also
activists, negotiators, peace builders
and human rights defenders.
Attempts to address the
consequences of crimes against
them, including its particular effects
on women, can only be
comprehensive and long lasting if
women play an active role in
rebuilding society at all levels.
And remember, violence against
women has been with us for
centuries. It is a shame that many of
us are smug that the spread of
education and the election of women
to important public positions would
take care of the evil. We, the people
(including our law makers, keeps
and implementers) need a
revolutionary change of mindset
before we can start making an
impact.
READER'S MESSAGES
Dear Editor,
Good efforts by your team for
covering all local issues. One thing
I am concerned about is the triple
seat young boys who speed at
unreasonably fast speeds. Also,
roads everywhere are dug up for
improvisation of the area but senior
citizens just can't walk safely
anymore. Further encroachments by
unauthorized hawkers are coming
up every day. Trees are also being
cut to make roads.

Prakash Gidwani
Dear Editor,
Your cover story is really great. I
appreciate your efforts in bringing
out such a story. Dance bars are
disgrace to the society and women
too. In the name of dancing, people
run prostitution rackets. What I
don't understand is how our police
are not able to raid such places? I
hope after this report, they take
some action towards these bars. I
would also like to address some
laws related to this issue:
·The amended Maharashtra Police
Act mentions ban on all dance
performances in bars and
restaurants across all types of
hospitality industry.
·Any breach of this code would
invite the action of minimum three
months to maximum five years of
jail and minimum one lakh to five
lakh fine besides cancellation of the
hotel permit.

Dear Editor,
Your last week's Baisakhi special
issue was great. Being a Punjabi in
Andheri, I feel great to see such
varied events taking place in the
area. Baisakhi is an important
festival for Sikhs since it marks the
day in 1699, when the tenth Guru
Gobind Singh organized the order
of the Khalsa, a collective body of
initiated Sikhs. Since Baisakhi is
not a celebrated festival in
Maharashtra, the various Punjabi
Associations make an effort to do as
much as possible.

Summer Lip Care
Mumbai Messenger Correspondent
Everyone thinks that our lips need
care only during the winter as it gets
chapped and dry soon. But did you
know that even during the summer
our lips needs care as they go dry
with heightened sun exposure and
scorching?
Here are few steps for soft lips all
summer long.
• You should try to avoid over
exposure to the sunrays as they can
absorb moisture of your lips and
make them dry. If you have to spend
a lot of time outdoors, then you
should go for 'triple lipstick ', with
moisturizers and sunscreen built
right in.
• Protect your lips from the harsh
weather conditions. Eat plenty of
green veggies and fruits. Gorge on
foods rich in Vitamins. Increase your
intake of water.
• Drink fresh fruits juice or
vegetables juice. Butter milk is very
good option after your meals.
• You should try to avoid over
exposure to the sunrays as they can
absorb moisture of your lips and
make them dry. If you have to spend
a lot of time outdoors, then you
should go for 'triple lipstick ', with
moisturizers and sunscreen built
right in.
• Apply lip balm and lip gloss only
over sun-protection cream.
• If your lips have become dry and
rough you can cure them easily. Mix
rose petals and milk together. Apply
the mix on your lips regularly to get a
soft and smooth feeling.
• Wash the lips with toothbrush
weekly once. Dead cells at that place
will be removed by this.
Are we leading a normal life? To answer this
question, one will have to know what normal is –
it is sufficiency or abundance? So if we are not
living an abundant life, we are living in one that is
sub standard. Reiki is a tool for shifting oneself
and others from a world of scarcity to a world of
abundance.
Reiki, a Japanese word for Universal Life
Force Energy (Rei: Universal, Ki: Life Force
Energy) is one of the most widely known forms
of energy healing. Being of Vedic origin, Reiki
was lost to humanity and was rediscovered by
Buddha and then lost again. Reiki was then reintroduced during the late 1800's by a Japanese
called Mikao Usui.
Reiki is a way of activating, directing and
applying natural energy for the promotion of
health, healing, balance and wholeness. This
universal life force energy is made available by
the healer placing their hands on various parts of
the body, which enters through the Crown
Chakra, comes down to the Third Eye Chakra, the
Throat Chakra, the Heart Chakra and to its
extensions, the hands (Chakras are the super fine
energy centres in our body). Every living being
has this Life Force Energy and because of the
attunement (the process of opening a channel for
the free flow of energy and linking one to higher
and finer levels of energy) any one can learn this
technique by which one can daw and channel this
cosmic energy. Reiki brings the harmony and
allows one to stabilise the cosmic energy.
Through the use of hands and certain energising
symbols, Reiki is channelled for healing the self
and also others. Reiki passes through any
material substance as it is derived from the
Infinite and so; the personal energy of the channel
is not drained in process.
A Reiki healing is performed very simply. The
practitioner places his or her hand upon the
person to be healed with the intent for healing to
occur, and then the energy begins to flow. The
energy knows where to go, and what to do once it
gets there , or else is being directed by a higher
intelligence. The energy manages its own flow to
and within the recipient. It draws through the
healer exactly that amount of energy, which the
recipient needs. All this happens without direct
conscious intervention by the healer. The healers
job is to get out of the way, to keep the healing
space open, and to watch/listen for signs of what
to do next. For a full treatment, one is to cover
twenty four locations at a minimum of three to
five minutes per location.
While it is not essential to have ailments to use
Reiki, it has been very effective in handling
addictions, burns, cancer, clinical depression,
epilepsy, kidney failures, and many more. Apart
from human beings, Reiki can be made available
to plants, animals, food, household, industry and
businesses and medicines. Reiki is capable of
healing anything because it works at very
fundamental levels of reality. The limits of Reiki
seem to be in the recipients' willingness to cast off
old habits and patterns, to accept change and to
accept healing.
To sum up, in other words, Reiki is also a
gateway shining pure love into the universe. It is
this love that allows us to transcend our wounds and
help us remember our true nature.
Diabetes - Most common, yet ignored
Shrutika Sukhi
Diabetes can strike anyone, from any walk of life. To know more about diabetes,
one first needs to understand the role of insulin in the body. Insulin is the
hormone produced by the pancreas that allows glucose to enter the body's cells,
where it is used as fuel for energy so we can work, play and generally live our
lives. It is vital for life. Glucose comes from digesting carbohydrate and is also
5 simple ways to boost stamina
Mumbai Messenger Correspondent
1. Get plenty of physical exercise: Though it will tire
you out in the short term, physical exercise increases your
overall energy level and stamina over a long period of time.
For optimal health and increased stamina, make time in
your schedule for regular exercise. For adults, the
Department of Health and Human Services recommends at
least 150 minutes of moderate cardiovascular exercise per
week, along with strength-building exercise sessions at
least twice a week.
2. Choose physical activities that you love: It's easier
to push yourself physically, improving your stamina, when
you're doing something you genuinely enjoy, rather than
something you dread. Tailor your workout to include mostly
activities that you enjoy - these may be things that you're
already good at, but they may also be things that you
haven't tried yet. If you're not sure which types of exercise
you enjoy, experiment by including many different kinds in
your workout for a week or two.
3. Lead an active life: If you're very, very busy, you may
simply not have enough time every week for exercise.
Luckily, you can mitigate some of the negative effects that
come from the lack of a regular exercise routine by simply
keeping in motion throughout the day. Avoid staying still for
long periods of time - almost any type of movement is good
for your cardiovascular health; the more, the better.
Instead of driving to work, bike or walk.
4. Involve others in your activity: If you find that
you're not able to achieve the stamina level you'd like on
your own, consider doing your physical activity of choice in
the company of friends. Believe it or not, friends can make it
substantially easier to push yourself physically. Friends can
offer you encouragement when you're tired.
5. Get plenty of rest: While it's important to stay active
with exercise, if you're shooting for high stamina it's just as
important to stay well-rested. A good night's rest should
leave you refreshed, energized, and focused, ensuring that
you'll be able to physically give your all. Inadequate rest, on
the other hand, can leave you groggy and underperforming. Bad sleeping habits have also been linked to a
number of health problems that can negatively impact your
stamina: weight gain, high blood pressure, and illness, to
name a few.
produced by the liver. But with diabetes, this system does not work. Diabetes can
also be caused due to some medicines. For those who consume a lot of alcohol,
liquor affects the pancreas, leading to an increase in blood sugar levels. Alcohol
should always be consumed in limitation so that it doesn't affect the pancreas or
liver as both play an important role in maintaining glucose metabolism.
Several major things can go wrong – causing the onset of diabetes. Type 1
and Type 2 diabetes are the most common forms of the disease, but there are
also other kinds, such as gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy, as
well as other forms.
Dr. C. C. Nair, Consulting Physician and Diabetologist said, “Whatever insulin
is produced, it has to be used to burn fat and carbohydrates, which becomes
deficient in obese people, as in their case, insulin resistance is much more. When
the burning capacity reduces, the insulin is not utilised, and thus people start
putting on more and more weight. It becomes a vicious cycle - the more weight
you put on, there is more insulin resistance and increase in blood sugar levels.”
TYPES OF DIABETES:
Type 1: The body does not produce insulin. Some people may refer to this
type as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes.
People usually develop type 1 diabetes before their 40th year, often in early
adulthood or teenage years.
Type 2: The body does not produce enough insulin for proper function, or the
cells in the body do not react to insulin (insulin resistance).
Prevention: Dr Nair explains, “There are many genetic factors, which can't
be changed. But the one thing that can be altered is one's lifestyle. So the first
thing one should do is try to maintain their body weight.” Dr. Nair also mentions
that diet plays a very important role. He says, “Our diet should contain less of
carbohydrates and fatty substances. Instead it should have more proteins.
Calories consumed should also be used by maintaining weight. They should be
shed and utilised by exercising. One can even brisk walk, cycle or jog.”
Mindset: “Our mind plays a big role in releasing hormones inside the body,
which have a direct influence on increasing sugars. So one should calm their
mind and de-stress themselves. One should try doing Yoga, walking and
meditation to release stress. A person with high levels of stress should not be
reluctant to go for counselling. If none of the stress busters work, then one
should take proper medications for the same,” explains Dr. Nair.
Home remedies: Methi helps in reducing diabetes. Methi should be soaked
in water overnight. This water should be consumed early in the morning. If eaten
directly, it helps. Jambul is also beneficial for a diabetic patient.
Sleep: Sleep has an effect on the metabolism, which plays a big role in
diabetes. Dr. Nair explains, “Adequate sleep is very important. A person suffering
from insomnia should go for a walk post dinner, drink warm milk with almonds
before sleeping or listen to some soft music. A proper time should be set for
sleeping. An average adult should sleep for at least 7 hours. Snoring should not
be ignored, as it has an effect on breathing,” adds Dr. Nair.
Myths:
· Don't eat too much sugar, you will become diabetic - this is not true. A
person with diabetes type 1 developed the disease because their immune system
destroyed the insulin-producing beta cells.
· If you have diabetes you cannot eat chocolates or sweets - people with
diabetes can eat chocolates and sweets if they combine them with exercise or eat
them as part of a healthy meal.
· Karela reduces blood sugar - It has no contribution in doing so. It just tastes
bitter so people feel that it helps in diabetes. It only prevents excess consumption
of calories.

MONEY TALK
Sound Savings & Intelligent Investment
Gold is falling; oil price is collapsing; commodity prices like
steel are declining. What are the safe investment havens?
Few of my friends the other dropped into our home, and
held animated discussions on the strange scenario where
almost everything around seems to be contracting and their
investments losing its sheen. With the likely falling interest
rate regime in India, the discussions became more
challenging. What can one invest in?
Most of us are living longer. The cost of medicine and
medical treatment keep spiralling upwards, as we go along
our years. Could there be the possibility of our money
running out before we run out of our time?
Whenever we think of savings and investments – we
need to think of two doctrines – safety and fair return. Is
our money safe? Will it grow to take care of our needs? To
build on these two basic canons, let us see what options we
have.
Start early
Early bird catches the worms, is a popular saying and it
works best when it comes to wealth creation. We all know
insurance protects us from future risks. Get it as early as
possible as older you get, costlier it becomes. Many look at
insurance as a savings opportunity. It is incorrect to do so.
It protects us from future risks of ill health, burglary, acts of
God, sudden death. An adverse eventuality could be quite
costly on the family. Adequate insurance is a good
protection.
Early-bird example can be taken bit more forward.
Assume you invest Rs 5,000 per month for 20 years. At 10
percent interest, your coffer will get enriched to Rs 38
lakhs, with base contribution at Rs 12 lakhs only. Isn't it
great! Provident Fund works under this principle. Free from
all taxes and interest at 8.75%, it is a magnificent avenue
for our greying years. In case you are non-salaried, open a
PPF account and contribute regularly with an annual cap of
Rs 1.5 lakhs.
Diversify
Another maxim for sound investment planning is – do not
keep all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio.
What is attractive today need not be shining tomorrow.
Think of the yesteryear star performer, gold. Since 2013, it
is on its downswing – gold is not glittering any more. Should
you want to invest in this ever lovable metal of Indians,
invest up to 5 to 10 percent of your total assets. More
enhances risk.
Equity is a good diversification plan. Indian stock market
is on its upswing. The market was up 40% in calendar year
2014, though it is rather flat between January and mid-April
2015. But be careful. Invest in shares of only good and
credible companies. Do not go by rumours and hearsays.
Buy shares only if you are
able to hold on to it.
Speculative mentality
may create a dent in your
money bag.
You can never time the
market – meaning you
cannot buy when the
market is low and sell Robin Banerjee
when the market is high.
A wonderful method to take care of this problem is to invest
through Systematic Investment Plan (SIP). The name
inherently means that you will invest in a systematic
manner. The investments are in Mutual Funds, which
involve pooling in resources from a large number of people
and then invest in stocks and bonds. Say you invest a fixed
sum every tenth day of every month (you can instruct your
bank to do so). The money will be invested in a mutual
fund, which in turn will be invested in shares in accordance
with its objectives and purpose. For a good balanced
portfolio, invest in mutual funds which invest in equity
shares up to 60 percent, and the rest in debts.
Real estates
What about real-estates? God is not creating any more
land, and hence investments in land should provide a fair
return provided you are careful that its title is clear and legal
documentation is completed. Between 2003 and 2013 the
returns were between 10 – 12% with higher returns in
certain locations where Government undertook
infrastructure up-gradation work. Please note however that
real estate is not a liquid investment. These are not easily
en-cashable. Thus an investment around 20 percent of
your portfolio is a good bet.
How much to save
The vexed question is – how much savings should one
have? More the merrier, but a rough guideline is – 5 times
your annual earnings in liquid assets, excluding your
investments in real estates. Say your annual income is Rs
15 lakhs and you are 60 years of age. Then, you should
have Rs 75 lakhs in assets not considering your real estate
investments like your home. It is also good to maintain an
emergency fund equal to 3 to 4 months' normal expense for
unforeseen contingencies.
We are living longer and need to live happier. Financial
prudence and planning could make our lives sweeter. A
contented life is meant to be spent in yearning, learning
and earning. My friends were happy to learn that
tactfulness can make their earnings grow in this shrinking
economic world.

PISCES (Feb 19 – Mar
20): ): An anticipated
romantic encounter may
be postponed or cancelled. There's
no reason to consider it a major
setback in the relationship. If you
feel doubt and uncertainty, it's
likely for other reasons. You're
agitated and not in a good place to
make any sweeping judgments.
Let your head clear matters for a
few days and then plan the next
steps.
ARIES (March 21 to April
20): You're going to want
to shut out the world and
be alone with your thoughts.
You're caught up in the
introspective energies at play. You
may not be very cooperative, and
may even wish to spend time on
solitary activities. You might want
to take time alone to meditate.
You're likely to be on the verge of a
major self-discovery.
TAURUS (Apr 20 – May
20): You can expect to
make a leap in your
career. Your intellect and
communicative skills have served
you well from sometime, paving
the way for advancement. You
may decide to try hard to be sure
the promotion occurs. You might
work extra hours and decide to
commit to some new projects so
the higher-ups can see how eager
you are.
GEMINI (May 21 – Jun
20) : Juggling work and
home may seem difficult.
Work responsibilities may weigh
on your mind to the point where
they interfere with the harmony of
home life. This can cause some
inner conflict. It might be wise to
prioritize work tasks and schedule
duties and deadlines. Then you
can spend time with your family
without worrying that work will be
forgotten.
CANCER (Jun 21 – Jul
22): If you have to deal
w i t h
s o m e
disappointment, try not to let it get
you down. You may receive a letter
or phone call that brings less than
favourable news. Someone you
were hoping to see won't be able
to make it, or a friend has to turn
down an invitation to an event.
These things happen. Keep
yourself busy.
LEO (Jul 23 – Aug 22):
You may be worried about
your financial situation.
You might feel a tug at your purse
strings. If you've experienced a
delay in receiving some funds you
were expecting, this may add to
your concern. You might want to
tackle this directly by examining
your situation. Check up on
expected funds and make any
necessary arrangements to
alleviate this stress.
VIRGO (Aug 23 – Sep
22)You might feel lonely
and insecure due to lack
of contact with a close friend or
romantic partner. You might
wonder if the person has forgotten
you or simply doesn't care
anymore. Take the time to try to
connect with this person. You may
discover that no neglect was
intended and that the relationship
is solid. Don't speculate, instead
tackle.
LIBRA (Sep 23 – Oct
22):Your self-confidence
is at a low point these
days, and this is making you
especially vulnerable. It's likely
that a recent confrontation with a
close friend has you worrying
about the overall health of the
relationship. With all kindness,
you're overreacting. It's likely that
your mate feels just as troubled as
you right now. Why not meet
halfway and solve?
SCORPIO (Oct 23 – Nov
21): ): You may feel some
frustration over your
perceived inability to reach an
important milestone in your career.
It's possible that you only need to
revaluate the benchmarks you've
set in order to see that you've
made progress than you thought.
Remember, ultimately, the time it
takes you to reach a goal matters
less than the fact that you reach it.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22
– Dec 21): Sometimes you
can be too passive and let
others trample all over you. Your
lack of ego is admirable, but only
up to a point. There could be a
situation where you feel compelled
to speak up. Protect your rights
and defend yourself against an
unethical person intent on
downplaying your contribution.
Hold your ground and you will be
vindicated.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22 –
Jan 19): ): An unethical
acquaintance could be
spreading unfounded rumors
about you. Don't take anything you
hear at face value. Get all the facts
before drawing conclusions.
Equipment being installed or
acting up adds to the confusion. If
the situation weren't so frustrating,
it would be comical. Tomorrow
things will be on a more even keel.
AQUARIUS (Jan 20 –
Feb 18) : A long time
friend may become
something more. It could be that
there has always been a certain
spark between you, but you
haven't been able to acknowledge
it until now. Make extra sure that
the time is right, however. You
don't want to hurt anyone else's
feelings as you begin to explore
the new aspects of this old
relationship.
