We are happy to announce that the SBE video conference room (room F3.01b) and the SBE Recording Studio (room F3.01c) are fully operational and ready for use. As of the first week of May the different rooms can be reserved either via Web Room Booking (Video Conference room) or via Acohelp (Studio). For further information about the facilities and capabilities of the different rooms see text below. Video conference Room The video conference room is equipped with a Lifesize Room 220 video conferencing system (VCS) .This system has the capability to connect to other video conferencing systems, as well as the capability to connect to laptops and computers via a Cloud service (Making a video conference via Lifesize Cloud v 1.0.pdf). With this videoconferencing system (VCS) it’s also possible to connect a laptop or tablet and show e.g. a PowerPoint presentation. Advantages of a high quality Video Conferencing System (VCS) To have a meeting with others without traveling: o a meeting with campus Venlo or Heerlen o a meeting with (a) colleague(s) all over the world o an interview for a position with a (SBE) committee and an external candidate o to examine (a) student(s) abroad o a meeting with external PhD’s o in case of emergencies, when leaving the building is not possible o and a lot more, use your imagination…… Not only communication with other video conferencing systems but also individual laptops, tablets, computers can be connected to a meeting session (similar like Skype but with more features and better quality) A.Computer via browser Video conference possibilities with Lifesize Cloud all over the world Smartphone with Lifesize app B. Computer with client Internet A. Laptop via browser Tablet with Lifesize app Video Conferencing system (VCS) UM/SBE 710065 Other Video Conferencing system (VCS) Polycon, Lifsize Cisco, etc B. Laptop with client Internet P.Hick/W.Vluggen SBE UM april 2015 The illustration above is an overview of the different connections that are possible through the Lifesize cloud to the UM/SBE video conferencing system (VCS). There are two available options: A. Access via a web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome etc.) For incidental or single use. This option provides ease of access, but the downside is that there is no possibility to show a (e.g. PowerPoint) presentation through your web browser. Additionally and the quality of the call will be lower (no HD). B. Access via downloading a program or app. Provided your internet connection is fast enough, this option provides HD-quality calls. If you’re using the program (not the app on a tablet or smartphone) you will also have the option to broadcast a (e.g. PowerPoint) presentation to the other participants of the call. Note that if the other participants are using the app for smartphone or tablet, they will be able to receive a (e.g. PowerPoint) presentation. There are manuals available that explain in detail how the different options can be used. Please contact Acohelp mail: [email protected] phone: 83826. Recording Studio SBE has a video recording studio, including a professional video camera, studio lights, microphones, background screen etc. A Mediasite Recording Unit (to stream the recording via Mediasite) is present in the studio as well. The studio is located in room F3.01c in building Ts53 and is suited for three people at most. The studio can be used to create videos for educational and promotional purposes. For instance: Introduction of yourself at the beginning of a course/lecture Introduction/sneak peek of the new course Looking back on the course/ short summary repeating all the key concepts Extra deepening of the course material Screencast: images (photos, graphs) combined with a voice-over Instruction video (how to make a certain graph, how to use a specific type of software etc.) Presentation of a project Interview Invitation Peer reflection ( video of a student activity such as a presentation or group assignment) For further information and manuals please contact Acohelp mail: [email protected] phone: 83826.
