April 6, 2015 QUADRENNIAL CODE OF ETHICS Requirement – What does that mean? Effective Jan. 1, 2001 through Dec. 31, 2004, and for successive four (4) year periods thereafter, REALTORS® are required to complete quadrennial ethics training of not less than two (2) hours and thirty (30) minutes of instructional time. This is a requirement of the National Association of Realtors. Agents can take this course online or in a live presentation. Since 2001, we are now in Cycle 4, which covers the calendar years 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. A REALTOR® completing the new member Code of Ethics orientation during any four (4) year cycle shall not be required to complete additional ethics training in respect of this requirement until a new four (4) year cycle commences. Failure to complete the required periodic ethics training shall be considered a violation of a membership duty. Failure to meet the requirement will result in suspension of membership for the first two months (January and February) of the year following the end of any four (4) year cycle or until the requirement is met, whichever occurs sooner. On March 1 of that year (2017), the membership of a member who is still suspended as of that date will be automatically terminated, subject to late and reinstatement fees. IN OTHER WORDS……………… NAR requires that Realtors take the Code of Ethics course one time every four (4) years. That means you must have taken this course once between JANUARY 2013 and DECEMBER 2016. If you have not yet taken the Code of Ethics Course since January 2013, you still have until the end of 2016 to do so. Save your attendance certificate because you will be asked to produce that hardcopy late next year in 2016. DO NOT SEND YOUR ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE TO THE NABOR OFFICE AT THIS TIME! THEY WILL ONLY BE ACCCEPTED COLLECTIVELY, AS HARD COPIES, SENT IN BY YOUR BROKER, WITH ALL OTHERS IN YOUR OFFICE, IN THE FALL OF 2016. CERTIFICATES ARE NOT BEING ACCEPTED NOW! NABOR OFFERS QUADRENNIAL ETHICS SEVERAL TIMES EVERY YEAR IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS. THE NEXT COURSE IS APRIL 16TH IN SLIDELL, 9:30AM. IMPORTANT: This is a requirement of the National Association of Realtors. This NAR requirement course is NOT the same as LREC’s Annual Mandatory course. These are 2 different requirements set by 2 different agencies!
