DANCE
TOPIC: - (Stimuli for Dance)
Stimuli can be anything that rouses the mind or spirits, or incites activity. Stimuli for dance composition
can be:
1. Auditory- Music, percussion instrument sounds, human voice sounds, words, songs and poems.
2. Visual Stimuli- Can take the form of pictures, sculptures, objects, patterns, shapes etc. from the
visual image the composer takes the idea behind it.
3. Kinesthetic Stimuli- Using movement or movement phrases to create a dance, takes on the role
of kinaesthetic stimulus.
4. Tactile Stimuli- Tactile stimuli often produce kinesthetic response which becomes the
motivation for dances. E.g. the smooth feel of a piece of cloth, or the movement of a full skirt.
5. Ideational Stimuli-The movement is stimulated and formed with intension to convey an idea or
unfold a story.
This topic will be used to assist students in choreographing dances for NCSE Practical’s.
