The legend of Sweeney Todd dates back to fourteenth century France when a certain barber in Paris was
reputed to have cut throats and disposed of his victims in a highly unconventional manner. This is a gritty
and dark version of the original tale, placed in the early Victorian period complete with songs of the era.
CAST REQUIRED: Minimum cast required (with doubling) 7 males and 7 females – Various vocal ranges.
Some Actors will be cast in Multiple Roles. Note that roles with either solo or duet singing are marked with
an asterix * - all other roles require group/chorus singing.
*SWEENEY TODD: The Barber of Fleet Street. (Singing Role)
EZEKIEL SMITH: A mechanic.
MRS RAGG: A poor woman. Mother to Tobias.
*TOBIAS RAGG: her son. An young apprentice boy (played by either male or female) (Singing Role)
MARK INGESTRE: A Mariner. Fiancée of Johanna Oakley.
JEAN PARMINE: A Lapidary or “Gem Cutter” of dubious morals.
*JOHANNA OAKLEY: A Young Lady in love with Mark Ingestre. (Singing Role)
COLONEL EUSTAVE JEFFREY: Of the Indian Army
*JASPER OAKLEY: A Spectacle maker. Johanna’s father. (Singing Role)
MRS. OAKLEY: His Wife.
*Dr. AMINADAB LUPIN: A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. (Singing Role)
MRS LOVETT: Sweeney Todd’s Accomplice. (Singing Role)
*JARVIS WILLIAMS: A lad with an appetite. (Singing Role)
JONAS FOGG: The keeper of the Madhouse.
Sir WILLIAM BRANDON: A Judge
MRS POORLEAN: An unfortunate woman.
Plus A Court Usher, Two Warders, A Keeper, Three Bystanders.
PREPARATION
Please prepare one monologue from those supplied at time of registering for an audition. If auditioning for
more than one role of differing characters, you may perform more than one monologue.
One Musical Theatre style song (or excerpt from). Please provide either sheet music or CD backing track.
An English accent is preferred, but not essential.
AUDITIONS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
DATES: SATURDAY 18th APRIL: 11am to 4pm
SUNDAY 19th APRIL: 11am to 4pm
VENUE: The Play Shed next to the car park behind Merthyr Road Uniting Church, 52 Merthyr Road, New
Farm. Access is via the path next to the church or via Amity St.
SEASON: 11th July to 1st August 2015. (Friday and Saturday nights, and two Sundays)
